Evening Racing SATURDAY 9th OCTOBER 2021

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome SATURDAY NIGHT RACING AT CCR! Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for a fantastic weekend fixture under our dazzling floodlights. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests some normality once again. It has been fantastic to see people really enjoying themselves here at CCR in recent months. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we can all continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas and continue to use the hand sanitisers available. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The eight races this evening have attracted a huge 95 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £50,000+ prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card tonight is race five at 7.00pm - the £9,250 “Chelmsford City Racecourse Membership Available Stakes” over six furlongs. Nine sprinters are in the line-up for this quality handicap and it’s a tricky one to call. Most of the field have won here before and it’s one of those, Richard Hughes’ Crimson Sand, that looks the pick of them. The three year old has been running really well here in recent months, finishing a fine second here in a higher grade race last month, and following a win at CCR over this distance in August. He has a cracking record of three wins from four career starts on All-weather surfaces and must go close tonight. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is next Thursday night, 14th October when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour, fun and excitement of floodlit horseracing at Chelmsford City Racecourse. And remember – Christmas party season is nearly here, so be sure to book a cracking night out at one of our weekend parties throughout December. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

You must be 18 or over to place a bet You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet If you cannot produce this your bet will not be accepted

CITY SELECTIONS CROCODILE POWER got off the mark over 7f at Newcastle a couple of weeks ago and he merits the utmost respect again, despite a 4lb rise in the ratings. Wiff Waff hit the crossbar over C&D last time and it would be no surprise to see him in the mix once more. Others to note are Beryl The Peril and Maid Millie.

PLAY SMARTER

POSH GIRL is relatively lightly raced and she’s dropping into a class six for the first time in her career. Not disgraced in better quality fillies’ handicaps recently, she should be able to get off the mark at this level. Harbour Storm was well backed last time and he is lurking on a dangerous mark. Siglo Six is another class dropper that warrants respect off a handy looking mark.

CITY SELECTIONS LIANGEL HOPE displayed plenty of promise when beaten just a head into second on his debut over 6f at Wolverhampton last month and he could be hard to beat with that experience now under his belt. STARRY EYES won well at Lingfield last time and if she repeats that effort tonight, she’ll take all the beating off a 6lb higher mark. Top Class Angel posted a career best over C&D at the end of last month and she’ll be a big danger. Lady Alavesa may offer some each-way value if the race is run to suit for her.

CITY SELECTIONS NEVER SAID NOTHING was only narrowly denied on his latest start at Wolverhampton. Mark Loughnane’s charge performed with credit on his only run at this track and can end a losing streak dating back to September last year. Across The Nile is another who has been knocking on the door of late, while Wolverhampton scorer Sunshine Fun could also get involved if putting a Ffos Las no-show behind her. C&D winner Fox Leicester, Lenny’s Spirit, and Nibras Shadow complete the shortlist. NEVER SAID NOTHING

CITY SELECTIONS CRIMSON SAND wasn’t beaten far by a Royal Ascot runner-up on his latest start. A comfortable winner here before that, also over track and trip, the son of Footstepsinthesand is capable of doing damage from a mark of 84. CRIMSON SAND has an excellent strike-rate on polytrack with 3 wins from 4 runs, including over C&D in August. He ran well here last month behind a progressive colt and should be able to add to his tremendous record on a synthetic surface tonight. CITY SELECTIONS BRAINS is 2-7 at this venue and has racked up a hat-trick in the past, so must be taken seriously following back-to-back wins at Lingfield and Ffos Las. Impressive wins, too, a clear indicator that Jamie Osborne has his five-year-old back to his best. The only slight concern would be the trip, but he’s lightly raced over 10 furlongs and can strike at the main expense of Global Art and Dual Identity.

KENTUCKY KINGDOM has a tremendous record at this venue and he’s chanced to make it 4 C&D wins tonight. He wasn’t disgraced at Newbury when the race wasn’t run to suit last time and should get back on track here. Desert Emperor is unexposed and may take a step forward after a series of solid efforts. Abrag could offer some each-way value on just his third start for Alice Haynes.
