Evening Racing THURSDAY 7th OCTOBER 2021

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome THURSDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS! Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for another cracking evening of floodlit racing. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests some normality once again. It has been fantastic to see people really enjoying themselves here at CCR in recent months. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we can all continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas and continue to use the hand sanitisers available. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The eight races this evening have attracted a bumper 91 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the near £60,000 prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card today is the first race at 5.00pm - the £9,700 “MansionBet Best Odds Guaranteed Stakes” over five furlongs. Ten sprinters are in the line-up for this quality handicap, and they won’t be dawdling! Over half the field have won here before and it’s one of those, David Brown’s True Hero, that catches the eye. The five-year-old has been running well recently and made all the running when winning here last month. He’s up in class now but is drawn in stall one. With a quick start, he could lead from pillar-to-post with Ray Dawson in the saddle. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is this Saturday night, 9th October, when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour and excitement of floodlit horseracing at CCR. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS Lucky Ava seems to save her best efforts for jockey Martin Dwyer, who has won on the filly three times now, and they are reunited after her half-length third here over C&D under Ben Curtis. She could get involved in the finish, but preference is for SENECA CHIEF, who was only beaten a length in a better race on turf last month and runs off the same mark now. With two wins from four starts over C&D, he may well prove too strong in the finish, with front-runner Charming Kid possibly holding on for third. Lucky Ava

PLAY SMARTER

Having scored at Sandown last month, SENECA CHIEF backed it up with a narrow fourth in a 0-90 at Pontefract a fortnight ago, so he’s fancied to get back to winning ways in this lesser grade, provided they go a solid pace. In-form Hyde Park Barracks is also respected and the speedy Sir Rodneyredblood rarely runs a bad race at this track, so a bold showing from him would be no surprise.

CITY SELECTIONS Amirat Alward ran a race full of promise when second at Lingfield, but failed to build on that at Windsor, though she is still worth consideration on her return to the Polytrack. Turna has hit the top four in all of her six races but she can start slowly and may have to settle for a place again here, leaving TRUE ICON as the likelier winner. She does need to build slightly on her Nottingham second making her all-weather debut, but may well do so for her in-form stable who can do little wrong at present. TRUE ICON

CITY SELECTIONS REBEL REDEMPTION is hard to oppose despite his 5lb penalty for a recent C&D win, with the handicapper putting him up 7lb in future, leaving him 2lb well in here. A handicap appearing to lack well-treated sorts, so it could pay to side with ARAIFJAN, a recent winner at Yarmouth, whose style of racing lends itself well to this track. Rebel Redemption won convincingly over C&D last week and is well respected under a penalty, while Lion Ring can continue in form.

PLAY SMARTER

FLORA FINCH and Mizzen You made promising debuts last month and could be the pair to focus on. Both will be suited by longer trips but are clearly capable of picking up a race like this before the year is out, with Roger Varian’s filly narrowly preferred this time. Two Door Saloon is clearly held in high regard by connections and could be set for an improved showing upped to 7f with Buick booked.

SKY BLUE THINKING’s terrific winning run for her new stable finally came to an end at Wolverhampton last time but it was another admirable effort, and she might well be able to eke out a bit more from a good draw under Oisin Murphy, so she gets the marginal vote. Legende d’Art and Stone Circle are both down in the weights and ran well recently, so are solid alternatives.

CITY SELECTIONS PLASTIC PADDY has improved with every start since switching to this yard earlier in the year and he was last seen getting off the mark over a mile at Newcastle last month. A 6lb penalty for that win is a slight concern but it may well not be enough to stop him from taking this contest as well. Puffin Island has hit the crossbar in both starts since winning over C&D in August, while Mountain Ash completes the shortlist. PLASTIC PADDY
