Welcome SATURDAY NIGHT RACING AND CONCERT!

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for our final racing and concert night of the year. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests some normality once again. We have still only staged a dozen or so racedays with crowds since Spring 2020, and it’s been fantastic to see people really enjoying themselves again. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we do all need to continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas and continue to use the hand sanitisers available. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The eight races this evening have attracted a bumper 81 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £65,000 prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card today is race four at 7.00pm the £19,000 “tote.co.uk Conditions Stakes” over 6 furlongs. Three top quality runners are in the line-up for this high grade sprint and they are all in with a chance. May Sonic won a good handicap race here back in July and was not beaten very far despite being bumped when fourth just over a week ago. He will be looking for a hat-trick of career wins at CCR. But Roulston Scar looks to be the winner for the Crisford training partnership. He won a similar race last time out despite the distance being on the short side for him and has all the makings of a horse that gets to the front and is hard to pass. Virtually all his wins, including a race in Dubai earlier this year, have been when he has led from start to finish. He can do the same again tonight. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this evening and be sure to head over to the “big top” to enjoy the awesome Example live in concert straight after the final race. Our next fixture is on Thursday night 30th September when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour and excitement of floodlit horseracing at CCR. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS QUEEN OF BURGUNDY was the subject of market support when finishing third over course and distance last time, producing her best effort for this yard in the process, and the daughter of Lethal Force is tipped to register her third career win. Global Acclamation got off the mark for this stable when scoring at Lingfield on his latest start, holding on from the reopposing Sovereign Moon, and those two look best placed to fight it out for the minor honours. An open low-grade affair to kick the card off and SOVEREIGN MOON holds most appeal. She’s been acquitting herself without winning all summer and deserves to get her head in front. Global Acclamation is feared following his Lingfield success. Queen of Burgundy also holds each-way claims.

CITY SELECTIONS MRS DIBBLE produced one of her best efforts when finishing second behind a progressive filly over course and distance last month and the three-year-old makes plenty of appeal as she attempts to notch up the first win of her career. Merlin’s Mission looked set to outrun his odds when meeting trouble in running at Kempton last time and may have more to offer at this trip, while Vitesse Du Son has registered all three of his wins over this distance and is also worth noting. PLAY SMARTER

Another modest contest in which it could be worth chancing MERLIN’S MISSION. He finally showed some ability at Kempton last time having endured a rough passage in a 0-65 handicap. Dropping into a 0-55 today, he could spring a bit of a surprise. Tommytwohoots and Tawtheef would go close on their best form but their records are hardly inspiring.

CITY SELECTIONS The three-year-old LISDARRAGH has been knocking on the door for a while now and, having travelled well for a long way over 1m4f at Bath last time, the Denis Coakley-trained gelding may have even more to offer as he drops in trip. Pillars Of Earth returns from a break for a new stable and has the potential to step up now dropping in distance, while Agent Of Fortune has performed well over C&D on her last two starts and is also respected. CITY SELECTIONS PERSIAN ROYAL sets the standard with his runner-up efforts at Ffos Las and here, over an extended 7f and 7f respectively, and he could make it third-time lucky now stepping up in trip. There is just 1lb splitting Damascus Finish (71) and Golden Mac (70) on official ratings and they both warrant respect, while any market support for the Andrew Balding-trained newcomer Swilcan Bridge could well be worth noting. PLAY SMARTER

LOUDSPEAKER really caught the eye over 7f here earlier in the month and he should improve for the step up to 1m. He is likely to be more clued up tonight too and just gets the vote in a solid maiden. Persian Royal should also improve for 1m and he’s going to be involved once again after two seconds. Swilcan Bridge is an interesting newcomer worthy of consideration.

CITY SELECTIONS ROULSTON SCAR comes out best at these weights and could supplement his recent Leicester success. The five-year-old readily made all that day and, if left alone on the front end here, he will likely do so again. CASH MACHINE had been running very well prior to his recent disappointment at Newcastle in a competitive race. Returning to the scene of his sole career victory, he should go very close if rediscovering his best form. Crimson Sand also thrives over this C&D and should go close. Lion Ring isn’t out of it either.

CITY SELECTIONS A case can be made for several of these, but a chance is taken on HEATH RISE, who arrives here bidding for the hat-trick. The three-year-old gelding was given a 3lb rise for his recent success over this C&D and he looks open to further improvement. Countessa is another searching for her third consecutive victory, but she needs to prove her stamina at this distance. The Vegas Raider should be suited by the return to the all-weather after a spin on the turf after Musselburgh. HEATH RISE

MUSHRIF makes most appeal after a series of solid efforts in defeat in recent weeks. The first-time cheekpieces may bring about the required improvement for him to finally get the job done. Heath Rise won well here last time and he will be a danger off a 3lb higher mark. The Vegas Raider should appreciate the return to this venue.

CITY SELECTIONS CABLE GUY took a step in the right direction when recording a second-placed effort over this C&D earlier this month. The three-year-old gelding remains lightly raced and he gets the vote to build on that display in this contest. La Roca Del Fuego warrants respect after his recent success at this venue but he needs to prove himself at this shorter distance, while Pretty Shiftwell and Toplight are others to consider in this field.
