Welcome SUNDAY AFTERNOON RACING!

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for one of our Sunday Afternoon race meetings. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests a sense of normality once again. We have still only staged a handful of racedays with crowds since Spring 2020, and it’s been great to see people really enjoying themselves again. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we do all need to continue to play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas, continue to use the hand sanitisers available and please bear in mind good social distancing principles. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The seven scheduled races this afternoon have attracted 53 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £64,000+ prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card today is race four at 2.35pm - the £22,000 “Betsi Elsenham Handicap” over seven furlongs. Seven runners are in the line-up for this quality handicap race and plenty of them are in with a chance, with it looking a really open race. The unbeaten Mutafawwig comes here looking to make it three wins out of three, however I like the look of Stylish Performer for trainer Karl Burke, who won The Chelmsford City Cup just three weeks ago. She battled on gamely on that occasion and she seems to like it around here, with a win and a tight second place finish on her two previous visits. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this afternoon. Our next fixture is on Thursday when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour and excitement of Thursday night horseracing at CCR. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS NIKKI’S GIRL hasn’t been seen since a promising third at Nottingham back in July and she gets the vote to come home in front here. Ed Dunlop’s filly shouldn’t have much issue with the switch to the all-weather and the booking of Robert Havlin is another plus. White Jasmine is 0-6 in her career and she won’t get many better opportunities to break the maiden. Lady Fantasia is another to consider following a solid placed effort at Sandown. NIKKI’S GIRL

CITY SELECTIONS It may have taken DOONBEG FARMER 16 attempts to break the maiden but now that the penny has dropped after victory at Lingfield last month, a double may be on the cards. The son of Vadamos runs off bottomweight here despite being raised 6lb for that success and he can get the better of Golden Claim, who has already won twice this season on the all-weather. DOONBEG FARMER gained his breakthrough victory in good style at Lingfield when proving well-suited by the drop back to 1m and he is fancied to follow up at the chief expense of Golden Claim, who is weighted to have a big say in his quest for a third win of 2021. The market should prove highly informative, but Roger Varian’s NIZAAKA showed up very well when third on her recent debut at Newcastle and is taken to come out on top. Debutante Top Table rates a big threat from the Gosden team, especially if the market speaks in her favour, while C&D scorer Purple Ribbon and the returning Miss Marble can’t be ruled out easily either in an intriguing novice.

PLAY SMARTER

MUTAFAWWIG is almost certainly too good for handicapping, so he’s worth backing to defy a mark of 102 before probably stepping up into pattern company, perhaps in Dubai. Stylish Performer is a tough sort who could capitalise if the selection fluffs his lines, while Tiger Crusade could play a part if tuned up.

CITY SELECTIONS Despite not getting the clearest of runs, BOOMSHALAA ran on well to finish second in a big-field handicap at Royal Ascot on just his fourth outing. CITY SELECTIONS SMITH has been a consistent customer this term and, considering he sits only 1lb above his last winning mark, he gets the nod to land the spoils. Tinsmith is relatively lightly raced for a six-year-old and a mark of 55 may underestimate his ability. Everett has been knocking on the door of late and the unexposed three-year-old is another to consider.
