Evening Racing THURSDAY 9th SEPTEMBER 2021

Official Programme £3.00

Welcome

THURSDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS!

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for one of our signature Thursday race nights. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests a sense of normality once again. We have still only staged a handful of racedays with crowds since Spring 2020, and it’s been great to see people really enjoying themselves again. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we do all need to continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas; continue to use the hand sanitisers available and please bear in mind good social distancing principles. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The eight scheduled races this evening have attracted 75 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £50,000+ prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card today is race five at 7.00pm - the £9,250 “Example Here Live 25th September Handicap” over a mile. Eight runners are in the line-up for this quality handicap race and plenty of them are in with a chance with it looking a really open race. Only two of the contenders have had a start here before, but I think “Miami Joy” could go well here today for Ismail Mohammed, on his first start here at Chelmsford City. Last time out he ran a good race at Kempton, running on well in the final furlong and being denied by just a neck. I think he comes here with every chance. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is on Sunday when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour and excitement of Sunday Afternoon horseracing at CCR. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

For more information about any of these events please visit www.chelmsfordcityracecourse.com or call the office on 01245 360300.

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS Narrowly denied here last month, HOT SPELL can be expected to go one better as she steps up in trip. The daughter of Hot Streak improved from her first to second start and her form figures suggest that a win may be just around the corner. Persian Royal is entitled to improve on a promising debut second at Ffos Las, while Golden Mac shaped well over C&D last time. Of the newcomers, Everyday is one to note in the colours of the Queen. This can go the way of HOT SPELL, who improved from her debut to finish runner-up at this track last month and with this step up in trip sure to suit, she’s taken to get off the mark at the third time of asking. Persian Royal looks the main threat, ahead of newcomers Easy With Aces and Everyday.

CITY SELECTIONS Green but shaping with lots of promise on debut at Salisbury last month, IKHTIRAAQ may well have won with another few strides. All the better for that experience, he can break his maiden tag here with the talented Ray Dawson taking over in the saddle. Harb wasn’t beaten far over C&D last month and he is expected to make this a test from stall two. Of the remainder, there may be more to come from Canmore, who hasn’t been disgraced in either of his first two outings. HARB

CITY SELECTIONS MIAMI JOY has improved with each start in 2021 and he was only beaten a neck when finishing second over a mile at Kempton three weeks ago. The progressive colt may have more to offer and he can overcome a 1lb rise in the ratings. Sir Edward Elgar was a bit disappointing on turf last time, but it is far too soon to be writing him off and he has a good record on the all-weather. The shortlist is completed by Eton College and Taawfan. SIR EDWARD ELGAR

CITY SELECTIONS A chance can be taken with THE TRON, who remains a maiden but he was not beaten far in three starts at Wolverhampton last month. STORM MELODY has been knocking on the door so will hold a good chance if a change of headgear gives him just a little bit extra. Strike Me A Pose has looked a little awkward on occasions but is unexposed now handicapping for a good stable and looks next best of Wolverhampton winner Toplight.

CITY SELECTIONS The David Simcock-trained PAX BRITANNICA has registered both of her wins on an artificial surface and, having not been at her best on turf in recent starts, the daughter of Zoffany may be capable of a revival now returning to Polytrack. Globetrotter broke his all-weather duck when scoring at this track last month and looks a serious threat, while Weardiditallgorong arrives in good form and is also worthy of respect. GLOBETROTTER
