Welcome THURSDAY NIGHT UNDER THE LIGHTS!

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for one of our signature Thursday race nights. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests a sense of normality once again. We have still only staged a handful of racedays with crowds since Spring 2020, and it’s been great to see people really enjoying themselves again. Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we do all need to continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas; continue to use the hand sanitisers available and please bear in mind good social distancing principles. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The seven scheduled races this evening have attracted 59 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £50,000+ prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card today is race five at 7.55pm - the £9,250 “Become a Member at Chelmsford City Racecourse” stakes over a mile. Eight runners are in the line-up for this quality handicap race and plenty of them are in with a chance. Two of the contestants have won here before and one of those, Michael Attwater’s Rhubarb Bikini, has a great overall record at our venue - finishing first or second in 4 of his 5 career runs at CCR. He won here last time out in early August, leading virtually from start to finish and similar tactics may well be employed today. Either way, a prominent showing seems assured. However, he could well end up setting the race up for Mark Loughnane’s Masked Identity, who might just be the one to beat at rewarding odds. The six year old ran really well at Wolverhampton last month when finishing second in a similar race after travelling very smoothly for most of the race. He could track the pace-setters today and swoop with a well-timed late run. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this evening. Our next fixture is a week today when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour and excitement of Thursday night horseracing at CCR. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS With the James Ferguson stable in terrific form and James Doyle booked, a chance is taken with AXOPAR. Fifth in a hot-looking novice at Kempton last month where the first two could be smart types, the son of Helmet can break the maiden. Runner-up at Lingfield recently, Damascus Finish must also enter calculations as he looks to get off the mark at the fifth time of asking. Newcomer Loudspeaker and Franklin Saint are also respected. CITY SELECTIONS THEFASTNTHECURIOUS has improved with each start during her career and was a gallant second on handicap debut at Sandown last month. Running off 1lb lower now and bred to go on this surface, she can deservedly break the maiden. First Connection rates her biggest threat if bouncing back to the form that saw him win easily at Bath back in May. Kehailaan is not out of things either, while Southwell specialist Bay Of Naples performed creditably at Chester on his most recent outing. THEFASTNTHECURIOUS

CITY SELECTIONS VALIANT PRINCE has produced a high level of form in his three starts to date and the Charlie Appleby-trained gelding should prove very tough to beat in a race where his rivals have shown very little so far. Arrange can benefit from her debut run at Wolverhampton last month and looks next best, while Katyusha is bred to have more ability than she showed in her sole outing as a juvenile and may be capable of stepping up on her return. This looks like a penalty kick for VALIANT PRINCE who sets a very high standard compared to his rivals. PLAY SMARTER

MOUNT MARCY is a lightly-raced colt from a leading yard and he should be able to take a step forward on handicap debut to get the better of mostly more exposed rivals. Masked Identity ran well on his first start for this yard a fortnight ago and he looks to be the biggest danger. Miquelon is unpenalised for his win at Chepstow last time and he can’t be ruled out.

CITY SELECTIONS The Amanda Perrett string have started to hit top form and with one win from one start here, EAGLE ONE looks interesting.
