Welcome IT’S LADIES DAY 2021

Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for our most glamorous fixture of the year, our belated Ladies Day 2021. It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re delighted to be able to offer our guests a sense of normality once again. We have only staged a handful of racedays back with crowds since Spring 2020, so it’s been a while! Whilst we are lucky to have plenty of outdoor space here, we do all need to continue play our part in relation to the ongoing covid situation. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some good practices recommended at all racecourses as these can benefit you and fellow racegoers. Please wear a face mask at your discretion indoors in busier areas; continue to use the hand sanitisers available and please bear in mind good social distancing principles. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains important for us all. Thank you. The seven scheduled races this evening have attracted 61 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the near £50,000+ prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card today is race four at 3.30pm - the £9,250 “Texo Scaffolding And Construction Handicap Stakes” over six furlongs. Six good sprinters are in the line-up for this quality handicap race and they are all in with a chance. Three of the runners have won here before and one of those, Robert Cowell’s Araifjan, has a great overall record on the polytrack surface here - never finishing worse than second in 3 career runs at CCR. When he last won here in April, he led from start to finish and no doubt similar tactics will be employed today. Top jockey Hollie Doyle takes the ride. However, it’s another runner who seems to like this track, Tom Ward’s Alphonse Kerr, that might just be the one to beat. The three year old ran really well here earlier this month when finishing third in a similar race and despite not having much room towards the finish. He could track the pace-setters again today and snatch the race in the final strides. After the final race this evening we are thrilled to welcome back Peter Andre on stage for what will no doubt be another classic show. He’ll be on stage from around 6.00pm and will be followed by a DJ set from Vernon Kay. Make sure your wearing your dancing shoes. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family this afternoon. Our next fixture is next Thursday evening when we’ll hope to see you again for all the colour and excitement of Summer horseracing at CCR. Fraser Garrity Racecourse Manager

Timeform Rating

OFFICIAL BHA RATINGS

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

CITY SELECTIONS Silver Kitten has the most experience in this field having run seven times already and she appears to set the standard. The penny seemed to drop for Alkhansa late on at Salisbury and she could come on considerably for that experience, but a chance is taken on MISS HARMONY. She also finished off her race well on her debut, but she showed a lot of greenness so plenty of improvement could be on the cards. MISS HARMONY

PLAY SMARTER

UNDER OATH had little go right having been a warm order for her debut at Newmarket, so she’s worth another chance to show her true ability in a winnable race. Silver Kitten should be thereabouts, but she’s vulnerable under a penalty, so Kingdom Girl might pose the main threat to the selection if she can build on her debut at the second attempt.

Wadacre Gogo, who was strong in the betting when third on debut for Mark Johnston at Wolverhampton last time, ranks as the main danger, while Full Moon Rising is another to consider.

CITY SELECTIONS Solid claims can be made for most of the runners in this field with the most unexposed candidate, ALPHONSE KARR, narrowly preferred to land the spoils. The Tom Ward-trained gelding stepped up on his previous form when a close third over course and distance and, after being dropped 1lb for that performance, looks poised to mount a bold bid. Araifjan rates the most immediate danger returning to a venue he usually thrives at, while Invincible Larne is another to consider. ALPHONSE KARRN

PLAY SMARTER

SWISS PRIDE had been in tremendous form prior to an excusable effort over 7f (raced too freely) last time, so he should go well provided the gallop is true. Toussarok arrives at the top of his game and, if allowed to dominate, he could prove hard to pass, so he’s regarded as the main danger ahead of Alphonse Karr.

CITY SELECTIONS Although Good Soul is a lightly raced filly with plenty of potential, she has a bit to prove after a lacklustre effort last time out.
