WELCOME W E LC O M I N G O U R G U E S T S B AC K TO C C R ! Welcome to Chelmsford City Racecourse for just our fourth fixture open to the general public since March 2020. It’s been a while! It has undoubtedly been a difficult time for all of us up and down the country and we’re just delighted to be able to offer our customers a sense of normality once again. However, with Covid still very much with us - and whilst we have plenty of outdoor space here - we do all need to continue play our part. As such, we would encourage you to continue with some straightforward practices that are being recommended at all racecourses. These will benefit you and your fellow racegoers today. Therefore, please use your discretion to wear a face mask indoors and in busier areas; please continue to use the hand sanitisers available, and please still bear in mind the good principle of social distancing. The guidance around “hands, face, space, fresh air” remains as important as ever. Thank you. Before tonight’s fixture we start with an Arabian race and are delighted to welcome back the Arabian Racing Organisation (ARO) and its participants to CCR. This is the third and final Arabian race that we are hosting here in 2021 and we look forward to supporting ARO again in 2022. The six scheduled thoroughbred races this evening have attracted 42 runners, and they’ll all be looking to win a share of the £45,000 prize money pot that’s on offer. The feature event on our card is race two at 6.52pm - the £9,250 “Winning Connections Networking” stakes over six furlongs . Six three year olds are in the line-up for this tricky handicap and it’s not easy to rule any of them out. Course and distance winner Baba Reza won nicely here last month and finished his two year old campaign with a win and a runner up spot in two races at CCR. He will definitely see out the trip. But, it could be worth following Crimson Sand who now reverts to an all-weather surface after four runs in good handicaps on grass. He is unbeaten in two starts on a polytrack surface, and whilst he has been slightly slowly away in his most recent performances, he is expected to come good again for trainer Richard Hughes in a slightly easier race than his latest challenges. We hope you have a fabulous time with your friends and family tonight. Our next fixture is on Sunday afternoon we’d be thrilled to see you again for all the colour and excitement of Summer horseracing at CCR. It’s family fun day and kids go free!

Star Ratings Explained each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

★★★★★ selected to win the race. ★★★★✩ Good chance of being placed. ★★★✩✩ By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

★★✩✩✩ Unlikely to win but not totally without hope. ★✩✩✩✩ can be given little or no chance.

GU I D E TO R AC I N G at c h e l m s fo R d c i t y Racing at chelmsford city takes place on the flat over distances from five furlongs to two miles – there are eight furlongs in a mile. Whilst most flat races take place on turf, racing here takes place on a synthetic surface. as the surface tends to have better drainage than turf it is easier to produce consistent racing ground whilst during cold weather it is also far less prone to freezing – hence the generic term all Weather racing. Races over five, six and seven furlongs tend to be a pure test of speed, with races over a mile and further better suited to horses with stamina. there are many different types of races but all are based on the sex, age or ability of the horse. the most common is a handicap – a race where each horse is allocated a weight, according to its ability. the best horse in the race will carry the biggest weight; theoretically giving each horse an equal chance. the skill is trying to work out which horses are better than the handicapper thinks they are! maiden races are for horses which have yet to win a race. often aimed at two-year-olds, but also open to older horses, the skill here is to decipher what can sometimes be very limited form. claiming and selling races allow the connections to offer their horse for sale. after the race the runners are offered for sale at the price printed next to their name in the racecard. other types of races include Group and listed races which are aimed at the very best horses in training and the classics – the 1000 and 2000 Guineas, the derby, the oaks and the st leger. if you have any questions about today’s racing please feel free to speak to any member of the raceday team.

THE FOLLOW @ARORACING ON INSTAGRAM MAIDEN STAKES Seven Furlongs For Purebred Arabians, Three yrs old and upwards Total race value £4000 Owners Prize Money. 1st £2,061.60, 2nd £966.80, 3rd £483.60, 4th £241.60, 5th £120.80, 6th £60.40. RACE SUMMARY Some well-bred three-year olds make their debuts here, and of those, Mumayyez makes most appeal on pedigree being by a speedy sire who can get early types and his jockey is two from three on Arabians. The older horses look too exposed to give weight away, so it should pay to side with the two fillies with more experience. Aldaana was just headed in the final strides back in April and is sure to come on for that run, whilst the top-rated AL KHALEEJY has shown a professional attitude on both her starts against older horses. She should make her allowance tell here.

CRIMSON SAND has been expensive to follow in handicaps, but 6f on the AW is probably his ideal scenario, so he’s worth another chance. Nine Tails retains potential and is sure to be popular in his hat-trick bid but probably isn’t one to be taking short odds about given he isn’t totally straightforward.

THE tote.co.uk LIVE STREAMING EVERY UK RACE CLASSIFIED STAKES (CLASS 6) about ONE MILE for three yrs old and upwards Total race value £5527 Owners Prize Money. 1st £1835, 2nd £917, 3rd £459, 4th £251, 5th £240, 6th £240, 7th £240, 8th £240. (Penalty Value £2322) CITY SELECTIONS KERRERA looks to tick plenty of boxes and gets the vote. She is the only C&D winner in this line-up and arrives on the back of a cracking effort at Brighton, finding only Beau Geste (who has been touched off since) too good. Sophie Ralston once again takes a handy 5lb off the mare’s back and she could prove too strong for the likes of Jaffathegaffa and Puffin Island.
