To all our visitors, a very warm welcome, and heartfelt thanks for joining us today on Cartmel’s very own ‘Super Saturday’. I wish you all a memorable and enjoyable day.
Racing is believed to have taken place on this site since 1856 and millions of people have come and enjoyed a day with us ever since! But horseracing faces many challenges and a secure future cannot be taken for granted. We will continue to rely on your support: please help us show the outside world that Cartmel is valued and close to the hearts of so many of you.
To the Owners who join us today, with your continued underpinning of our race programme, we are able to make a significant contribution to Summer Jumps in the North; it is a real pleasure to see so many of you here today.
Today also features two wonderful well-established races – the Female Riders race and the Cumbria Crystal Cup. Both races are generally very well contested and an example of how we wish to continue to provide a varied race programme for the area
Of course, our sponsors are very important to us – today sees our regular partner, Hadwins Motor Group with us. Today is also our annual William Hill–supported day; sadly they are here for the last time, and I would like to thank William Hill for their many years of partnership with us.
Today’s Charity is Andy’s Man Club who are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend, peer-to-peer support groups across the UK, the nearest location being Barrow It is the first time they have been with us, so I do hope you will be able to visit their stand on the Course-side and find out more about what they do
After racing today, we are welcoming Vernon Kay for a live DJ set – which promises to be fun and uplifting; I do hope you are able to stay on
Good luck!

CARTMEL JOCKEYS CHALLENGE
to lead close home for a popular win. It was back to Team Bowen for the concluding victory in the Holker Hall Handicap with Roll With It A downpour made the ground testing, and bringing the successful horse wide onto the better ground gave Sean a fantastic 12 point haul on the day.
It was a bumper day at out last meeting for Sean Bowen.
A fantastic afternoon of 3 winners and 2 places catapulted Sean up to the top the table. 2 of the 3 successes were for the Bowen family team ensuring a packed Winners Enclosure and plenty of happy connections.
The first success in the opening Hadwins Mares Novices Hurdle was a perfectly judged ride, waiting patiently until the run-in to the lead for a comfortable win. The ride on Saint Bibiana was the opposite where Sean showed his power in a finish
Neither of our overnight leaders Jonathan England or James Bowen were riding at the last meeting but hold onto the shared second place, 4 behind Sean. There were popular wins for Cartmel favourites Richie McLernon and Sean Quinlan ensuring they are sitting nicely in the table.
Our valuable Oakmere Homes sponsored races were won by the popular Danny McMenamin and Jordan Gainford This was only Jordan’s second win at Cartmel, but he doesn’t ride here often and is worth noting when he does

CARTMEL TRAINERS CHALLENGE
Georgie Nicholls won with her first ever runner at the track. Saint Bibiana was a very popular winner of the Burlington Stone Handicap Hurdle, leading to big celebrations in in the Winners Enclosure Georgie has produced the mare to win 3 in a row and congratulations go to her on a great training performance.
It was all change in the leaderboard with new leaders sharing top spot
Peter and Michael Bowen’s haul of 9 points propelled them up the table. While Peter has been a Cartmel regular with 40 winners, the success of Letterston Lily in the Hadwins Mares Novices Hurdle was the first under the partnership of father and son with Michael They didn’t have to wait long for the next winner when Roll With It was a comfortable winner of the concluding Holker Hall Handicap The Bowen family are great supporters of racing here and there will be many more winners to come Ben Haslam always does well here and 3 successes in the 2 meetings have ensured he is at the summit. Dr Sanderson was fourth when racing on Friday but never looked in danger when comfortably landing the Old Park Wood Handicap
2 of our popular local Trainers achieved success. Lizzie Quinlan’s City Derby won for the second time here this season under a power packed ride from husband Sean, getting up close home in an exciting finish Dianne Sayer landed one of the valuable Oakmere Homes prizes with Charlie Uberalles. The Penrith handler winners are always well received and her supporters were rewarded with a comfortable success.

HOW TO PLACE A BET
PLACE YOUR BETS....
Betting is quite straightforward and can be fun - for as little as £2 There is no fool proof way of picking a winner; the odds and the racecard can give you a good guide but you can also have as much luck picking your horse by the name or colour of the silks.
BET IN TWO WAYS -
1. Betting with the tote - a quick, easy and friendly service You’ll find tote betting points all around the racecourse and it will give you a better choice of bets with the lower minimum stake of £2. Look at the counters for the tote how to bet guides
HOW TO READ
2. Bookies - these are all in front of the Grandstand and take only two bets TO WIN and EACH-WAY The bookies offer ‘odds’ on all the horses and you are best to shop around for the best odds. These are given in fractions, such as 8/1.

Race Description This is a three miles, one furlong and 107 yards handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 100. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170.

Race Description This is a two miles, one furlong and 61 yards handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 100. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. Race Description This is a two miles and five furlongs handicap steeple chase for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 120. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being unpenalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb.

Race Description This two miles, one furlong and 46 yards handicap hurdle race has been designed for three-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 125. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden. The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage.
