Ayr Racecard - Monday 22nd July

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for the third of our Monday meetings here in July.

Whether you are a first time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast, I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today.

I’d like to thank our owners and trainers for choosing to run their horses here today and I wish all connections the very best of luck and sincerely hope you have a successful day and return again in the future.

The second race on our card, The Irish EBF Maiden Stakes for 2yo, does tend to showcase some talented younger horses. Last years’ winner Dorothy Lawrence went on to be second in a Group 3 race later in the season whilst third placed Pilgrim is now rated 99 after tasting success most recently at Royal Ascot.

Remember Scottish Sun Ladies Night on Saturday 10 August which will feature Kimberly Wyatt of Pussycat Doll’s fame, its sure to be a fabulous night with lots of fantastic prizes to be won.

Did I mention the Virgin Bet Ayr Gold Cup is on the horizon 19th – 21st September, it’s Scotland’s biggest flat meeting.

I would also like to thank our racegoers for attending today and hope you enjoy your day. Also please feel free to visit Western House Hotel after racing, where Benjamin McGahon plays his live acoustic set from 5.30pm till 8.30pm.

I wish you all a safe journey home and hope to see you back at Ayr soon.

Don’t forget our next meeting... MONDAY 29TH JULY

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

Brando was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, 17th September, 2016

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

EACH WAY BETTING

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

• Fewer than 3 runners - all on to win

• 3 or 4 runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2

• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2

• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3

• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1,2,3,4

• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1,2,3,4

All bookmakers must display on their boards whether they are betting each way or to win only

IT’S ALL ABOUT YOU posted a creditable third-placed finish over an inadequate 1m4f at Pontefract recently. This extra furlong may be enough for Jennie Candlish’s gelding to gain a first triumph of the season. Having stumbled at the start, Desert Quest shouldn’t be judged too harshly on his latest defeat at Musselburgh and previous performances make him a live contender. The class-dropping Ravenscraig Castle is another to bear in mind.

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - CHARLIE JOHNSTON

The Johnston horses have a history of hitting peak summer form when the ground is consistently on the quicker side and the stable struck in the finale here last Monday with improving 3 year-old Aviemore, owned by one of the prestigious Highclere Racing syndicates and ridden by Johnston stalwart, Franny Norton. The trainer went on too saddle an across the cards double at Newbury and Pontefract on Friday with Norton doing the pushing in Berkshire and the Yorkshire winner ridden by visiting Hong Kong jockey C Y Ho. The stable has 2 runners here today and 4 more spread equally between Beverley and Windsor tonight and next week’s Glorious Goodwood meeting could, once again, be a happy hunting ground.

ETERNAL SUNSHINE has now won both starts over 6f having returned a ready winner here a fortnight ago. The ease of her latest success suggests a 6lb rise may not be enough to prevent Jim Goldie’s filly landing the hat-trick. Ramon Di Loria has been threatening a return to winning ways and found only one too good over C&D a week ago, while Novello Lad opened his account in this grade at Doncaster and is not out of it.

3RD 4TH TIME

CONCERT BOY gets another chance to record his first win on turf, racing off the same handicap mark as when second over C&D a week ago. He can confirm superiority with both Zachary and Onthebunny, but Drakeholes looks a big threat on his good form on the all-weather earlier in the year that included a victory at Newcastle. Pembrokeshire returns to this distance with a shout.
