Ayr Racecard - Monday 15th July

Page 1

Welcome to Ayr Racecourse for the second of our July Family Days. Whether you are a first time racegoer or a seasoned racing enthusiast, I hope you have an enjoyable experience with us today

I hope all our younger visitors enjoy their family day experience and make use of all the free childrens’ entertainment. Our Mascot Race is due off at 1.30pm and if last Sunday’s Mascot Race is anything to go by, this should prove highly entertaining and great fun particularly for our young racegoers.

We have six races this afternoon with the feature race the Class 3 Ayr Gold Cup Trail which this year is generously sponsored in celebration of Fergie & Myra Happel. Many thanks to Alan Happel for his continued support.

Looking ahead, we are delighted to host the Scottish Sun Ladies Night on Saturday 10 August where we have the fabulous Pussycat Doll Kimberely Wyatt here for an amazing party DJ set.

I’d like to wish all connections the very best of luck and sincerely hope you have an enjoyable and successful day and return again in the future.

I’d also like to thank our racegoers for attending today and wish you a safe journey home. I hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back soon.

Don’t forget our next meeting... MONDAY 22ND JULY

9 Form guide 10 Age 11 Weight 12 Stalls Position

Included in the form guide below each horse is a form rating, calculated from the horse’s previous performances, taking into account a number of variables such as finishing position, distance won/beaten by, horses beaten/beaten by, weight carried, race time (compared with the standard time), going allowance, number of days since that performance, etc.

Horses which have not raced will not have a form rating, as may some horses which have raced but not recently in Britain or their performances to-date have not yet merited a rating.

Brando was the winner of the Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday, 17th September, 2016

HOW TO BET

1. Pick your Racehorse, look around for the best odds on course, try to proffer the correct stake money for your wager

2. Ask the Bookmaker for your bet by naming the horse. The bookmaker will repeat your bet to his clerk, correct bookmaker if he makes a mistake and receive your Betting Ticket as a receipt for your bet.

3. If your horse wins, give your Betting Ticket to the bookmaker, check your winnings.

4. Check with the bookmaker when placing a bet, the Place Terms. Place Betting, not all on course bookmakers accept each way bets, ie. for a win or a place.

5. In the unlikely event of a dispute after adhering to this procedure, the bookmaker will tell the punter to approach the Ring Official, who will advise you as to your rights.

6. Some course bookmakers have minimum stakes.e.g. £1, £5, £10 but small backers are catered for in the racecourse Betting Shops.

In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.

The strength of Fred On Fire’s Newcastle debut success has yet to be truly tested but, given that he pulled well clear with the runner-up, he needs respecting under a penalty. Dandy Man colt King’s Call represents an in-form Kevin Ryan yard so it would come as no surprise were he to feature on his racecourse bow, though preference is for PENINSULA POWER Richard Fahey’s charge shaped with promise on his first start at Redcar last month and he can step forward with that experience under his belt.

ISLAND OF SKYE showed a willing attitude when recording a narrow success on the back of a 170-day absence at Thirsk three weeks ago. That performance can be marked up given that he was held up off a slow pace and, should he take another step forward, a 2lb rise in more than manageable. Young Fire bumped into a progressive rival at Doncaster recently and has to be of significant interest along with Going Underground If turned out quickly following Saturday’s victory at Hamilton, Jumeira Vision commands the utmost respect in search of a four-timer. totewin: Island Of Skye

Mythical Phoenix deserves a change of luck having occupied the runner-up spot on each of his four starts for the Julie Camacho team. He’s considered nudged up a further 1lb in the ratings, but the unexposed ALFA KELLENIC is a sprinter on the up and she gets the vote. A comfortable winner at Thirsk on her handicap bow in June, she followed up in similar fashion at York a week later, suggesting she is surely capable of defying a hefty 9lb rise. Others to note include Aberama Gold and Batal Zabeel. totewin: Alfa Kellenic

TODAY’S TRAINER TO WATCH - JULIE CAMACHO

Julie saddles this season’s 4-times runner-up Mythical Phoenix in the Ayr Gold Cup Trial at 3.28 and the significance of that runner is the fact that the trainer saddled last year’s Ayr Gold Cup winner Significantly Camacho’s Gold Cup winner hasn’t been seen since finishing just a length and a half behind the winner in a Group 3 at Newmarket in May but the now 6 year-old has Group 1 entries at Haydock and the Curragh in September and is being prepared for another autumn campaign. Today’s runner has only been beaten a neck the last twice in races which have worked out well, but the 38,000 guineas Bellewstown maiden winner keeps sneaking up the handicap and today’s trial will give connections a handle on where he goes next.

TODAY’S JOCKEY TO WATCH - JASON HART

Scottish rider Jason has 5 rides this afternoon, including the sure to be well fancied, unbeaten juvenile Fred On Fire in the opening race for regular Ayr raider Hugo Palmer Fred On Fire has a 7lbs penalty for winning his debut at Newcastle under Silvestre de Sousa last month and 2 of Hart’s other 4 rides are for his main employers John and Sean Quinn, the father and son joint trainers whose horses are running nicely into peak summer form. Hart rode the Quinns’ Royalty Bay to win at York on Friday after a winner for the same yard at Catterick 2 days earlier and the Hawick born jockey will have a big chance for the same team on Twilight Romance in the Ayr Gold Cup Trial at 3.28

RAMON DI LORIA looks set to make a bold bid having finished third at Carlisle latest. He was winning off a much higher rating at the same venue last season and it could be his turn again. Atomise will likely finish in the mix once more, despite finishing only third when sent off favourite here a week ago, while Earn Your Stripes won this contest in 2022 and is preferred to Water Of Leith of the rest. Giselles Izzy isn’t discounted either if backing up her Hamilton success on Saturday.

LEAP YEAR LAD bounced back to form in first-time blinkers when beaten only a neck at Nottingham. Kevin Ryan’s four-year-old can return to winning ways and prevent Empire Of Light from landing a double in the process. The latter returned a surprise 28/1 winner at Haydock last month and is expected to be competitive, despite a 5lb rise, while the more exposed pair, Hortzadar and Tilsitt, have a bit more to find off their current handicap marks.
