At Pampa, we feel the need to rediscover threatened cultures and revive lost traditions. We support skilled artisans in remote Argentina and beyond to produce homewares and accessories that are woven works of art. Pampa traces a map that connects talented weavers in Argentina with the global community. All Pampa products are 100% handmade and fairly traded through our artisan partnerships. -

WE EXPLORE ART. WE PRESERVE HERITAGE. - WE EMPOWER CULTURE.

WE ARE

“We feel the need to rediscover and explore culture.”

Pampa is a homewares brand based in Byron Bay, Australia. Our team works directly with skilled artisans in remote and rural Argentina to bring you the finest-quality woven textiles. In many parts of Argentina, natural dyes, patterns inspired by nature and the traditions of manual weaving are slowly fading away. Pampa was founded with the desire to protect this woven heritage for the next generation. In the Quechua language, Pampa means ‘plain between the mountains’. All our collections have a deeply rooted sense of place and are named after the landscape where they were made.

07

In 2013, we launched our first project by partnering with artisan groups in Argentina, travelling back and forth to source one-of-a-kind rugs woven by artisans in their homes. From small beginnings, our range has expanded to include woven blankets, throws and cushions handmade by artisans all over Argentina and in other parts of South America. As Pampa continues to grow, we hold on to our core values, ensuring all our homewares are ethically made and fairly traded through direct artisan partnerships.

“We believe in a world of trading fairly, that’s the way we work with our weavers, so you know your rug is not only improving your home, but improving theirs as well.”

Pampa rugs & textiles OUR RUGS With its own unique variations in grain and colour profile, each and every Pampa rug is an individual creation handpicked from the remote artisan community where it was designed and woven. The techniques used to make our rugs are part of the fabric of Argentinian tradition, heritage and ancient knowledge. Every rug is handmade from fibre to finished product using high-quality wool that is shorn, carded and spun by hand. Natural dyes extracted from plants, flowers, vegetables, insects, minerals and smoke are used to colour the fibres, occasionally with the aid of synthetic dyes. Using patterns and designs passed down through the generations and inspired by nature, our rugs are woven on traditional looms in a process that can take more than six weeks. Once off the loom, Pampa rugs are finished by joining two woven panels with a central seam.

13

All our rugs carry the signature of the weaver in their individual design and slight imperfections. Named for the Argentinian landscape where they originate, every collection has a deeply rooted sense of place. These are the things that make Pampa rugs a truly handmade product.

OUR VALUES -

Pampa believes in a world of ethically made and fairly traded products, which is why we deal directly with our artisans. Paying a fair price for our rugs helps guarantee that our weavers receive the working wages they deserve. Profits from every rug are used by Pampa’s artisans and their families to cover day-to-day living costs such as buying food and clothing, paying school expenses, accessing medical care, and sourcing new tools and materials for weaving. Earning a fair wage has enabled our weavers to form their own co-operatives, giving individuals the added benefit of sharing materials, ideas and work loads. This flexibility means that our weavers can work from their homes and villages, eliminating the need to travel long distances to sell their rugs or find alternate employment in big cities.

15

By respecting each individual artisan’s creativity and technique, Pampa helps to give these communities a stronger sense of cultural independence and pride. Showing our artisans the real value of their work demonstrates to the younger generations that weaving is an honourable and profitable vocation, helping to preserve this traditional form of art for years to come.

MONTE COLLECTION The Monte Collection has travelled from the dry forests of northern Argentina, an area known simply as the Monte. Here, artisans use sheep’s wool to create monochrome and neutral rugs inspired by the dry sun-baked forest and desert landscapes their ancestors have lived among for centuries. Their use of bright colours is a reflection of the flowers, insects and other life that roams the Monte, some of which is now just a memory.

17

Handwoven by skilled weavers, these unique Monte rugs have been sourced directly for a fair price from the indigenous communities where they were made. All of the rugs in this collection have been hand-woven using designs and colourways that are exclusive among Argentinian artisans and cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

PUNA COLLECTION The Puna Collection has travelled from the salt flats and elevated plains of northern Argentina. The indigenous communities who inhabit the harsh Puna landscape live at high altitudes, isolated from the post-colonial way of life but deeply connected to Andean culture and Pachamama, ‘Mother Earth’. Rugs in the Puna Collection feature simple geometric shapes, repeated and arranged to create original patterns. Ethnic motifs often represent mountainscapes and ways of cropping the fields. Neutral panels with pops of bright colour are woven from a mix of sheep’s and llama’s wool, giving Puna rugs a soft, warm character.

27

Handwoven by skilled artisans, these Puna rugs have been sourced directly for a fair price from the communities where they were made. When you purchase a Puna rug, you’re helping Pampa trace the map that connects Argentina’s talented artisans with the global community.

47

Monte cushions come with a blend of enviro-friendly fibre/feather inserts, giving a soft and cozy feel.
