Win one in the books Andale in town Friday By JOSH PRIM and NATE JONES The Wellington Daily News

The Crusaders made sure Circle's homecoming didn't got as planned as the Thunderbirds fell on Friday night to previously winless Wellington 36-12. "It was just great to see the smiles on the kid's faces, and see how excited they were because they've worked extremely hard in the summer till now," said Wellington Head Coach, Tyler Ryan. "So that was really neat for me to see as their Nick Becker Week 5 @ Circle WHS Senior

coach." Wellington scored on each of their possessions in the first half. The Crusaders drew first blood on their first possession of the ball game when Trevor Nance, sophomore, hit receiver Nick Becker, senior, on a play action pass for an 8 yard touchdown and after a failed PAT Wellington led 6-0. This was Nace's second varsity start at quarterback, his first was the week before at Wichita Collegiate. Becker started the season at QB, but is back to a more familiar position at

In week six, get ready – Wellington will play Andale. The heated rivalry continues at Sellers Park on Oct. 5 at 7 p.m. The Indians, 4-1, are coming off of four straight wins. In week five, they trounced Augusta 64-9 and have a 3-1 record in the Ark Valley Chisholm Trail IV. While new to the rivalry, Wellington Head Coach, Tyler Ryan knows what to expect from Andale. "Hard-nosed football,

and great offense rushing the ball," he said. "It's kind of the same old song and dance we're going to see from those guys, nothing new." The Indians have solid experience at the skilled positions with Jake May, senior, runningback, and Jared Smarsh, junior, quarterback. Wellington is going into the game with some confidence, Ryan said, after the week five win at Circle. Last week, Wellington rushed for a total of

286 yards with two rushers near the 100yard mark; seniors Tyler Clift (97 yards), and Andrew Linnebur (90 yards). Ryan knows how important the ground game is for success. "Our offensive attack is kind of geared on giving a lot of guys the opportunity to step up on any given night," he said. "Andrew did a nice job of running hard inbetween the tackles for us [last week], that re-

Big game, big hits, big rivals Conway Springs travels to Garden Plain in week six By NATE JONES The Wellington Daily News

One of the biggest games in the State of Kansas will take place on Friday in Garden Plain. The Owls host the Conway Springs Cardinals. Each team won on the other team's home field last season, one game decided the Central Plain's League title, the other was for a trip to the state championship game– GP won the first, CS won the latter. Oh, and both teams are 5-0 this season. There is still a lot of football left this season, but this year's game could decide the CPL title again. Each team is a force to be reckoned with on the ground. But the Owls

air attack is a bit more refined. Each team is hard-hitting and physical and the rivalry gets more heated with every snap of the ball. The Cards are coming off of a 4514 win against Wichita Trinity, the Owls beat Cheney last week , 34-12. Conway Springs dominated their contest with 567 yards of total offense, 284 of those yards belonged to Tanner Wood, senior, in the gound game. The senior also added two rushing touchdowns, along with one through the air. There is also a strong chance these two teams could meet again in the 3A State Playoffs later in the fall Expect a hard-hitting match-up. NATE JONES PHOTO
