Do you qualify for the ride? Revelation 17:14 Intro: On Wednesdays we have been studying Revelation. This past Wednesday we saw a picture of the very end and we also saw who will be with Jesus when He returns to conquer. We know that this group is the Church, the born again, one of the armies of God. But it also gives three qualifying characteristics of this group. If you want to be riding in on a white horse right behind the King of all Kings then listen up to the three characteristics required to qualify for God’s army. ________________________________________________________________________________ Rev 17:14 - Together they will go to war against the Lamb, but the Lamb will defeat them because He is Lord of all lords and King of all kings. And his called and chosen and faithful ones will be with him.” Here we see that Jesus will be victorious over all evil and those that are with Him will share in the victory. The Battle of Armageddon is a topic for Wednesday night , today I want to break down the three essential characteristics to qualify for the Army of God. They are Called, they are chosen, they are faithful. Called – Invited Chosen – According to how they responded to the invitation. Faithful – Because they were so grateful for being chosen\ ________________________________________________________________________________ Called – Invited – What had they been invited to? Matthew 22;2, 3 - “The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his Son. 3 When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited…….. They had been invited to the wedding feast of Jesus Christ . Not only would they be invited to the feast, they were invited to be the Bride! ________________________________________________________________________________ But not all who were invited were chosen to attend. Matthew 22:3 - When the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify those who were invited. But they all refused to come! They were invited but didn’t have time to get ready and go to the feast. Some made fun of the invitation Some had work to do Some had to go shopping Some outright rejected the invitation and abused the message bearer So, because of their response to the invitation they were not chosen to attend. They didn’t know how important this feast was!
So who was chosen? The King sent messengers out to the highways and hedges to invite others to come. Good and bad. Filthy and clean. And this time they responded to the invitation by coming to the feast. But not everyone who accepted the invitation was chosen! Matthew 22: 11-13 - “But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn’t wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. 12 ‘Friend,’ he asked, ‘how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?’ But the man had no reply. 13 Then the king said to his aides, ‘Bind his hands and feet and throw him into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’ This man did not come to participate in the feast, he came to eat for free. He came to see what he could get out of this party. So he was not chosen, he was kicked out the gates of the Kingdom! Not only did they have to respond to the invitation by showing up, they had to come for the right reason, to celebrate and be a part of the Son’s wedding! Those that accepted the invitation and came with the attitude of celebrating and honoring the Son were chosen to stay!! It isn’t easy to be part of the wedding! Matthew 22:14 - “For many are called, but few are chosen.” ______________________________________________________________________________ But there is one more qualification listed in Revelation 17 that we have to look at. Faithful – A people that follow through with their commitment. A people that keep their promises and vows. In this context it means a people that kept their wedding vows after they had been chosen!!! _______________________________________________________________________________ They didn’t accept the invitation and then back out because something better came along, that was the first crowd. They didn’t come to the feast just to see what they could get out of it, hat was the second crowd. They came to celebrate and honor the Son on this great day!! They didn’t know that because they qualified they would also be given great honor!!! _______________________________________________________________________________
So here is the message to us. We have been called – Invited to the wedding of the Son of God. Invited to come celebrate and honor the Son. Invited to one day be the bride of Christ forever. If you accept the invitation - by rejecting your sinful life, accepting Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross to provide forgiveness, and vowing to live for His glory and Honor through a life of obedience to Him so that you may be cleaned up and dressed for the great moment! Then you are chosen - to honor Him with all your heart, soul, mind and strength. You are set apart for His special purpose. You will be known as His special property! But that isn’t all Now you are required to be faithful - We must keep our vows to Him. We must remain faithful to Him. We must remain obedient to Him. We must be ready at any moment for His call to come to Him! Now it is up to you. Will you accept the invitation? Will you be chosen? Will you remain faithful? Many are called, few are chosen, and even fewer still are faithful to the end!
