Key Message All of New Zealand stays at Red

Supporting Messages All of New Zealand will remain at the Red traffic light setting following Cabinet’s decision today.

Much of the country has likely experienced the peak, but with regions and rural areas around the country facing an increase in case numbers, public health advice is to remain at Red. The next review of the traffic light settings will be on Thursday 14 April.

My Vaccine Pass

Rolling average of cases has declined by 36% but the health system needs to recover

Four weeks ago case numbers were averaging around 20,000 cases a day, compared to today where the average is just over 13,000 cases and dropping.

My Vaccine Pass no longer required from tonight

From 11:59pm tonight, Monday 4 April, My Vaccine Pass will no longer required.

98% of all COVID-19 cases to date have occurred in the past 90 days and with the wave moving down the country still, Kiwis need to be mindful of the pressure on healthcare nationally.

My Vaccine Pass has been an extremely useful tool for New Zealand while the country got vaccinated and in the fight against Delta but with around 95% of the eligible population at least double dosed we no longer need this.

Businesses will still be able to use the system if they choose to but from tonight it’s not required Vaccine mandates

Vaccine mandates to end for most sectors

From 11:59pm tonight, Monday 4 April, Government vaccine mandates for all sectors except for health and disability (including aged care), prison and border workforces will disappear.

Mandates remain for these people because health and care workers and prison staff come into contact with a lot of people who are at high risk of serious illness from COVID-19 and for border workers because they are the first people that would likely be exposed to any new variant of concern that emerges internationally.

Hospitalisations, cases and testing

Hospitalisations There are currently 734 people in hospitals across New Zealand.

Deaths A total of 9 deaths were reported today. These deaths take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID 19 to 405 and the 7-day rolling average of reported deaths to 20.

Cases There are 10,205 new cases in the community and 33 new cases identified at the border.

Today's seven day rolling average is 13,218; this compares with the 7-day rolling average of cases as at last Monday of 16,102.

Testing 121 cases were identified through PCR testing and 10,084 via RAT in the last 24 hours.

Vaccinations Topic Booster programme update

Key message Yesterday 866 booster doses were administered in New Zealand

Supporting messages The total number of people who have received boosters – including those vaccinated overseas – is 2,587,110 boosted (72.7% of those eligible).

Unvaccinated people make up 21 percent of hospitalisations to date.

95.1% of eligible people in New Zealand have had two vaccine doses

Vaccines administered in New Zealand yesterday: 22 first doses; 65 second doses; 1 third primary dose.

22 paediatric first doses and 65 second doses were administered yesterday

To date, 259,478 paediatric first doses and 90,890 paediatric second doses have been administered in New Zealand.

People vaccinated (including those vaccinated overseas): all ethnicities (percentage of eligible people aged 12+): 4,055,352 first dose (96.3%); 4,002,833 second dose (95.1%), 2,587,110 boosted (72.7% of those eligible).
