“THE WESTERN”

FROM THE JUNGLE What a week in Western Border footy! Just when certain sections of the non members area were lamenting an alleged air of predictability in our comp, the champs go down in straight sets, and the Bullies pluck a win from the parson’s nose. Before I go any further, congratulations to all those boys selected in our interleague squads, from the seniors down to the 14s. It is a privilege to be selected for rep footy, I hope you do the right thing by the League and your coaches. And that goes for WB supporters as well. No other footy in the district on the June long weekend- let’s circle the wagons when the indians charge into town, and show them who’s in charge in these here parts.

East Gambier v Millicent I’m guessing the howling turned to a genuine Bulldog Bark last Saturday night in the Kennel. East did it the Rocky Balboa way against the Cats, but an ugly win is always a lot sweeter than a pretty boy loss. The Sainters need to show a lot more intent than they did last outing. Despite having to face the Doggies with their tails at full mast, this is still Millicent’s best chance to date to salute the judge in the clocktower. Ray Love might be the secret ingredient for a Saints triumph, but I think the general Stooge Balshaw will lead his troops to back to back victories. East by 13 points

South v West How important has this contest become for the Ds? If they drop it, they slip two games behind West, and probably one down on North. The midfield square off should be juicer than a peach in springtime, with Willo, Tommy H and the King on one side of the street and BP O’Neil, Berky the Elder, Howie on the other feeding off the silky spoils of Jak Ryan, Roo McElroy, Carl S etc should be one for the highlights reel, but I think the West back half will struggle going the distance against the likes of Brad Cordless Phone and the Xlby Factor.

STARS FROM ROUND 4 Over at Island Park Coach Ayton led bravely from the front, but at day’s end would have been dirtier than a Newcastle coal miner when the Catters coughed up the points. Young Bullie Jayden Eldridge played a cracker all day, and deserved to lick the cake bowl for slotting through two crucial goals when it mattered most. Up at Millicent veteran Brent Howie snagged Seven snags for seven Sisters as the Ds easily accounted for the hapless Saints. And at the Mecca Stratty’s Rooboys went some way to atoning for last year’s flag loss by inflicting plenty of pain on the reigning champs. Roo King Elliot continued on his merry old white hot 2014 form.

South by 11 points

Sound Advice: A good time to keep your mouth shut is . . . when you’re in deep water. ‘Till next week... The Phantom

THIS WEEK Casterton Sandford v North Gambier Both these camps should be nastier than a hungry Rottweiler for stumbling last week. The Cats had plenty of early stars shining last week, but most faded well before sunset. It would be great to see Brandon Currie go paw to paw with Richie O, that would be a whole lot better viewing than a Smokin’ Joe Hockey Budget speech. The jungle drums were beating that Michelin McConnell was off his chaff last week, expect him to respond well today. And will the great Nults grace the stage once more in support of Fletty against young Bunnik?

WBFL SENIOR INTERLEAGUE SQUAD

(All junior squads inserted in next week’s Western)

A total of 38 players have been selected in the Western Border FL 2014 Senior Interleague training squad. The WBFL will compete against the MSEFL and KNTFL in the inaugural SE Zone Interleague Carnival, to be played at Vansittart Park on Saturday June 7. League CEO David Heard says the squad displays a balanced blend of experience and youth. “The abbreviated match format of the round robin concept requires an emphasis on agility, quick decision making and flexible team structure ” says Heard. “A couple of players that would have been considered are unavailable for personal reasons, and a couple more that were picked have injury concerns that hopefully they can overcome quickly.” The final team will comprise 23 players, with a minimum of five under the age of 21. The first training session under coach Brett Exelby will be held at BLSP on Sunday May 25, followed by sessions at Vansittart Park on Wed 28 May and Wed June 4.

“THE WESTERN”

Round Four Review - Western Border Netball North Gambier has returned to the winner’s list with a solid win over West Gambier to secure outright second on the premiership ladder heading into the final match of the first round this weekend. Starting with the same starting line-up that struggled against the impressive Saints, North got off to a much better start as Abbey Duncan returned to her form of the opening two rounds. She the key play maker at the attacking end of the court and finished accurately. At the other end her fellow goal attack Lisa Cram was also making her presence felt with her usual strong positioning and precise finishing but thanks to some defensive stops from Alannah Campbell, North was able to enjoy a two goal break going into the first change. Things were tight again in the second quarter as Brianna Walters worked her way into the game, not only delivering the ball well into the shooting circle but creating a number of turnovers with her defensive pressure and ability to run down the loose ball. West defenders Amy Cram and Mollie Muhovics stepped up the pressure this quarter and some passing errors crept into the Tigers’ game, especially with Racheal Langford and Carly Trevilyan applying plenty of pressure on the outside of the circle as well. But in the end the home side was able to slightly extend its lead and had a six goal buffer at the main change. West introduced Maddy Teakle at goal keeper in the third quarter as the Tigers continued to have faith in the starting line-up with North starting to build momentum courtesy of the defensive pressure of Meg Gazzard, Campbell and Leanne Cameron. The connection between West wing attack Carlee Davey and goalers Lisa Cram and Kahli Rolton has been impressive in the opening three rounds and with Davey missing, the West attack line lacked a little of its usual flow, allowing the tight checking Tigers defenders to disrupt even further and create turnovers. At the final change, North enjoyed an 11 goal lead. The Roos weren’t done with though and fought their way back to only a handful of goals in arrears but an injury to Teakle, which saw Muhovics return to the court, disrupted the momentum with North scoring three unanswered goals and getting the lead back out to seven by the final whistle. Coach Audine Bryant was also instrumental in steadying the ship for the Tigers just when the Roos challenged. Duncan and Walters were named best for the winners with Rolton and Trevilyan were best for the Roos. Casterton Sandford notched up its first win of 2014 but not without a fight. The contest with East Gambier was a goal for goal affair for this first three quarters with the Cats leading by two at the first change, three at half time and two again at the final break but a charge in the final quarter as the Cats capitalised on the defensive turnovers created by Ellen Brewster and Abbey Shannon, to run out winners by 11 goals. It was the defenders that dominated this game with Brewster, Shannon and the tight checking Scarlett Jarrad really stepping things up from quarter time onwards, while t the other end East coach and goal defence Bo Richards was ensuring her side stayed well and truly in touch with her ability to turn the ball over time and time again. For the fourth successive round, Jan Murphy was again one of the best Cats with her ability to find space in the shooting circle and her solid finishing, while for the second consecutive week, Sarah Lock was the focal point of the East shooting circle and back to her accurate 4

“THE WESTERN”

Round Four Review - Western Border Netball Cont... base, especially from long range. The second half battle in the centre between Cat Haylee Rhook and East’s Natasha McCallum was an intriguing one with both looking to use their pace to great effect. East no doubt missed the services of the athletic Rachael Hines and once again had a different look line-up to its previous three outings as the availability of playing personnel continues to hamper their development. The Cats would be pleased to have the premiership points in the bank as they look to really settle in their new look 2014 line-up as well. The A Grade match between Millicent and South Gambier played at McLaughlin Park on Saturday saw the Saints come away with a solid victory winning by 28 goals. The match started in fine playing conditions, which was a change from the previous week’s cold conditions. It was the Saints who took advantage of the dry conditions and started the match at a fast pace. It was a classy performance from the Saints, built on outstanding defence from Tanaya Redman, Alex Walker and Hayley Dunn by not allowing South to find an easy avenue to the post and denying their goalies opportunities. With the Saints creating many turnovers, it allowed their attack line to strengthen with slick ball movement through the mid court and accurate shooting by the Saints goalers. The Saints were able to take a strong 15 goal lead into the first change. The Saints started the second quarter with Pip Ellis in at wing denfece, giving Redman a rest after a solid first quarter effort. South remained unchanged opting to give their first quarter combination another go. This decision allowed South to settle into the second quarter quicker than their opponents and South’s midcourt of Alyssa Boylan at centre and Megan Hein at wing attack started to find space and deliver the ball to their goalies Malinda Markiewicz and Chantelle Weir. At the other end, South’s defenders Lisa King and Alyce Mourbey competed hard with Denton and Danika Jolley for missed attempts at goal. Nicole Butler at wing defence for South started to have an impact on the wing with her pressure over the ball. It was a much more even quarter with the Saints only increasing their lead by two goals. Once again it was only the Saints who made changes by swapping Jolley and Denton who went in under the post. The third quarter was played out in similar style to the second quarter. Walker in defence for the Saints continued to hassle Weir and come away with many turnovers while Markiewicz was working hard to create scoring opportunities for her side. The Saints attacking wing of Jolley and Squire were having a good battle with Mourbey and Butler who were running hard and contesting every ball. Saints moved Ellis from the defensive wing to the attacking wing with Redman returning to the court to replace Ellis and Squire taking a rest in the last quarter. The Saints defensive pressure lifted again in the last with all team members contributing and causing South to turn the ball over. This gave the Saints goalies plenty of scoring opportunities allowing Denton to have her best quarter shooting at 100% accuracy and her shooting partner Jolley also finished off her game well. For South the damage was done in the first quarter and were unable to bridge the gap despite the strong efforts of Markiewicz and Butler who were named in South’s bests. While for the Saints Walker and Denton were named best players. 5

“THE WESTERN”

The Bulldogs travelled down the highway, passing a few Kangaroos, to play the Cats at the Cattery. After a less than stellar effort under the Power of the Mcdonald Park lights against a fine Demons squad, the boys were keen to rise like Giants and score their first win. Swooping like Magpies on any loose ball, the boys rallied from behind in the last quarter to post a miracle win after a Lion hearted goal from Jayden Eldridge, who avoided any Blues and got the boys home like the Saints the club knows they can be. The magoos weren’t quite as lucky, occasionally shining like Suns but failing at the last whilst still giving supporters something to Crow about. The U 17s were tight like a Tiger but unfortunately were overrun. The Under 15’s are still Swanning around at the top of the ladder undefeated, whilst the Under 13s fly like Hawks and spot targets like Eagles when given the chance. Get down to the kennel this week, to see the boys take on a Millicent squad who are unpredictable like a Bomber and cheer the boys home. You wouldn’t want to be Dockered from the members draw! Don’t forget to support our sponsors, like Van Schaiks BioGro for your soil care needs and Lynch Financial Group for all your advice on your super! Last week we travelled to Casterton. Congratulations to our Under 12B for your first win. Excellent defence over the court and brilliant attacking enabled us to convert 17 goals. Well done girls!! Fantastic effort by the Under 12A girls all over the court playing an amazing game. The 13 & Under girls had a great win! You started strong and continued throughout the whole game. It is good to see new improvements each week! Great job!! A great game by all 15 & under girls. Very hard to choose best players because everyone was so consistent and hard working. Well done! 17 & Under has a slow start with passing errors but fantastic defensive pressure by all turned the ball back. Great win girls! C Grade had patches of good, we just need to convert those for the full 4 quarters. Well contested game by both sides in the B Grade. An outstanding effort by Mary Wilson shooting 51/51 to pull us through for a 6 goal win. A reserve started in wet conditions, with each team making errors. East was the first to settle leading by 8 at the half. Casterton came out firing in the 3rd outscoring East by 4. East held on in a tight last quarter winning by 3. A Grade didn’t get the result we wanted. We what only played 3 quarters. We have what it takes to win but we need to fight harder and finish stronger. Daniela Waters

“THE WESTERN”

You know you’re bored out of control when the only thing worth watching on a Tuesday night is the budget report! Which got me thinking about the family budget that generally gets thrown in the bin after 8 days because if you adhered to your budget you would be eating toast and drinking water regularly? Electricity, Water, Council Rates, Dirty Magazines, Beer, Petrol, Rego’s, Telephone and Internet, Court Cost’s, Lawyers, Child Maintenance, hell i’m puffed and I haven’t even started on Insurances, Health, Life, Income Protection, Car, House and Contents it’s a bit much isn’t it! Then there’s kids and school fee’s! You pay Tax and Superannuation and I believe I have a solution that will cover superannuation. Every dollar that you pay in tax, at age 65 you get it all back and this is your superannuation/Pension, so you won’t care about being taxed so much and this will eliminate The Pension, easy fixed and this maybe an incentive for the unwashed ferals to put in a bit! Terrific to see “Major” Club Sponsor Shanks Engineering CEO David “Roo” Shanks play his 100th club game last week. Roo is always a solid contributor in the backlines and great to see him back playing A’s. It’s important that we all call into club sponsors The South Aussie Hotel for a meal and drinks tonight, teas are from 5.30. Just a thought “When was the last time you did something for the first time” If it’s been a while and you have never been to the South Aussie you had better get there. Neil Brown Last week we had our second home game for the season hosting South Gambier. Unfortunately it wasn’t our day on the court with the A-grade and under 12As being the only teams to come away with a win. Our Milestone Players, Paula and Bronwyn both had a fantastic day getting 1st best in their respective games showing that they’ve ‘still got it’! A big thanks to all of our sponsors for the 2014 season for all our home game awards. A grade: Hayley – Heaven on a Hanger, Alex – Pierinas. A reserve: Paula – Millicent Toyota & Salt ‘n’ Pepper Seafood, Lynette – Stockfeed and Saddlery & Freaky Fit. B grade: Bronwyn – Alternate Life, Tara Bowering – Rural Living & McCourts. C grade: Megan – Laura & Vicky’s, Michelle – Rural Living & McCourts. 17s: Alex – Prince of Wales, Emily R – Absolutely Anything. 15s: Zoe – Pierinas, Kalli – Colour Inn. 13s: Hannah – Toy Kingdom, Paige – Denton Sportspower. 12s: Claudia & Lucy - Award on day. Today we travel to Mount Gambier to take on East where we are expecting some tough competition on the court. Good luck to all teams for Saturday, hopefully we can come away with wins for all grades. GO SAINTS!

casterton/SANDFORD Club Notes

Mount Gambier & District Community Bank®Branch

Welcome North Gambier! Last week was a must win against East Gambier and it ended up being a tale of two halves. Casterton worked tirelessly in the first half creating plenty of run and carry all over the ground, teaming up with each other to create multiple opportunities for its forwards. Unfortunately after half time East begin to counter attack and start to gather momentum leading into the last. The last quarter was a thriller with both teams going goal for goal, it wasn’t until the last 30seconds that east were able to kick the match winner and break the backs of Casterton/ Sandford. Positives for Casterton were the inclusion of Rick Killey who combined with his younger brother Matt Killey to create a Killey Sensation in the forward line. Dylan Ayton provided an example with his leadership and gut running all over the ground, closely followed by Dylan (Woofy) Ryan with his clearance and rebounding work. The two’s are flying with their ability to work hard and run both ways. This week saw a rise in the players understanding of Matt Kurzman’s game plan and it showed. The midfield of Dean Jamieson, Sam Penfold and Josh Searle created ample supply to its forwards, with new forward Simon Sealey finishing off the good work. The U/17’s bounced back with a strong performance to record a win and challenge the top teams in the upcoming weeks. The U/15’s unfortunately lost to a stronger and BIGGER East Gambier; they tried their best and were competitive for all four quarters. Good Luck to all teams this week, hopefully all teams can play four quarters of competitive footy and come away with a win!! Netball in last week’s Women’s Round was of a high standard and a great spectacle to watch across the senior grades. Congratulations to Trish and all the girls on a hard fought A Grade win last week. To all our Juniors, we are proud of the way you are focusing on improving and developing your games. The club also congratulates Lauren Cleary on her 100th Game milestone and hope all the Belles and Beaus enjoyed last nights’ Deb Ball, as today they swap dancing shoes for runner and boots as we take on North. Did you hear the story about two Irishmen that attempted a drive thru Renno. Very funny just ask the Pres. Extreme way to get some work for some of our great sponsors!!!! Great week last week for one of our young guns congratulations Garth on 350 games marvellous effort. More to the point he played a couple of years in Port Lincoln so the career would be topping 400. The under13s kicked the due off the grass and performed well under immense pressure from the taller opposition. Best players Ben Stanley (2 goals), Sammy Bruhn, Jayden Moore,Coby Jelleff and Liam Pudney. Our under 15 had another solid performance with lots of contributors across the park. Best Players Will Staffordd, Sam Shaw, Mitch Whan, Kenny Lam and Leith Hunt. Under 17s continued to play solid football and showed great defensive skills to hold West goalless. Best players Josh Jenner, Declan Kenny, Matt WalmsleyPace, Thomas Flett and Christian Magracia. The reserves certainly had something to play for and if the way Garth plays doesn’t inspire then your hard to motivate. They two held the opposition goalless in a clinical display. Best Players Sooky Silvy (9 goals) Jack Walker, The 350 man, Kyle Kuhn, Jason Brooks and Maxxy. The senior game didn’t get to great heights and our boys look a little sluggish and the result reflected that in the end. Better Players were Fletty, Munny, Jordy Mansell( first game), Richie, TMac and Nick Morretti. This week we finish the round and head to the cattery. Knowing its always a hard road trip let’s make sure we pack a little more tiger in the kit bag this week just in case we need it. Go Tigers. Firstly, today is a milestone for Nyah Allen who plays her 50th Junior Game! Well Done Nyah and here’s to another 50 with North!! Our second consecutive home game against West produced some extremely close matches. Audines’s A Grade girls enjoyed a spectacular win defeating West 56 to 49 in what was an all round team effort. Club Awards: Leanne Cameron (Plants on Sturt) and Ash Kalantarian (Active 8). The A Reserve girls made their presence felt with a 12 goal win defeating West 62 to 50. Club Awards : Alycia Close (Mac’s Hotel) and coach Stacy Chapman (GCP Chem-mart). Lisa’s B Grade girls had a tight tussle going down by just two goals West 33 to North 31. Club Awards: Nat McLaughlin (Fasta Pasta/Wine) and Brooke Willoughby (Active 8). Our C Grade girls gave a great fight but West proved too strong winning by seven goals, West 39 to North 32. Club Awards: Tanya McGinty (Salon 7/Active 8) and Emma Beames (Plants on Sturt). The 17 and Under girls had a challenging game and despite a great team effort lost by only two goals. Club Awards: Jamie Whan (OK Pie Shop/Civic and Sienna Allen (Fasta Pasta). Amanda’s 15 and Under girls were so close to securing a win but lost by three goals West 21 to North 18. Club Awards: Morgan Fisher (Subway/RSL and Lauren Ross (Hungry Jacks). Christie’s Under 13 girls had another strong win over West. Club Awards: Jess Stafford (KFC/ Video Ezy) and Lara Willoughby (Civic). Our gorgeous 12 A and 12 B girls played an internal match and show cased some impressive moves. Club Awards: Charlotte Bruhn (Civic/KFC) Lili Stephenson (McDonalds) Elyse Willoughby (McDonalds /Wendy’s) and Tara Bryant (Wendy’s). A big thank you to Brooke Willoughby and Di Jones who received the new weekly umpires awards in recognition of their commitment to North Netball. 24th May Sponsors Day 31st May Reunion for past Football Netball Premierships. 300 Game Milestone - Bronwyn Turner - Millicent Bronwyn Turner is the kind of person everyone wants a swag of around their club. She clocked up 300 games at the weekend in a career that started in 1990. And while her playing resume is impressive, the fact she has also coached, umpired and been on the committee means she has been one of those invaluable Saints for more than two decades. With seven best and fairests and three runner-up honours at club level, there is no doubting her value as a player. She has also tied for B grade association best and fairest in 2008 and ‘09. A long time coach of the colloquially dubbed Millicent B Grade Babes, Bronwyn led her side to the 2011 and ‘12 grand final, losing narrowly to West on both occasions - by three in 2011 and just one in 2012. In 2008 she was part of another B grade grand final losing side. She has enjoyed premiership success though, being part of Millicent’s 1990 A Reserve won the grand final. Last year, Bronwyn was the Donate Life SA Netball Volunteer of the Year, further testament to her all round contribution to the sport in this region. Daughters Isabelle and Charlotte are now embarking on their careers with husband Neil supporting his netballing family every step of the way.

350 Game Milestone - Paula Tunkin - Millicent Paula Tunkin is a stalwart of the Millicent Netball Club and with five A grade premiership medals in her collection, she was a key part of the Saints’ resurgence in the early 2000s. Her connection with Donna Denton and Tamara Haggett, playing with Mel Gibson in centre, Tunkin was one of the association’s premier wing attacks in the first incarnation of the Saints’ rise to Western Border netball powerhouse. Her pace and creativity of delivery make her an invaluable asset for the Saints. She always seems to find the circle’s edge with imminent ease and despite being a shorter player, she never seems fazed by any pressure over her feed. She is also a hard working defensive player, working hard to create turnovers when the Saints lose possession. Tunkin has given A Reserve defenders similar headaches in the past couple of seasons, helping lead her side to the 2013 grand final and finishing runner-up to Casterton stalwart Trictia Cleary in the 2012 association best and fairest at A Reserve level. Tunkin played her 350th game on Saturday and while there was no victory to enjoy against a tough South Gambier outfit, Tunkin was again one of side’s best. Not only has her career, which started back in 1992, seen her enjoy incredible premiership success but she has also been a Western Border representative at Victorian and South Australian Country Championships and numerous appearances in the Western Border team of the year is proof of the high esteem in which the tough mid courter was always viewed by opposing teams. Tunkin has five club best and fairests in her trophy cabinet, as well as two runner-up trophies and two coach’s awards. Not surprisingly, her 22 years at the club have not just been about her playing but also passing on her expertise to the club’s juniors. Last year she guided the saints’ 15 & under line-up to a somewhat surprise grand final appearance and her charges certainly tested the all-conquering East Gambier line-up despite not securing the victory. She is in charge of the same age group this season. Paula is married to football club president Craig Tunkin and has three children - Harry, Daisy and Lenny - all four were by her side at the pre-game presentation acknowledging her 350 quality outings for the club. 22

“THE WESTERN”

Our trip to Millicent last weekend paid off with wins in all grades. The 13’s came away with a 28-16 win and the 15’s never looked in doubt with a 114-12 victory. The 17.5’s shared similar success with a huge 160-14 win with goals shared across half the team lead by Jack Capewell and Jake Tentye on 4 each. The Reserves looked a bit shakey early on trailing by 4 goals at the first break. A quick regroup saw that shrink to 9 points at half time and just three points at the final break. A 4 goal final term saw the Magoos over the line in a 72-48 win. We had an opportunity to let some of our younger players step up into the senior side this week and their efforts did not go unnoticed. The Seniors never looked in trouble with their lead building from 4 goals, to 10 goals, to 12 goals, the finishing on a 92 point win 144-52. Brent Howard shone named BOG and booting 7 goals, followed up for Brett Exelby with 5 and Carl Slape on 3 and backed up in the field by Dion Stratford and Brad Bryant. Today we are taking on new ladder leaders West after their shock defeat of North last week. A win today could see us move up a spot or two and really open up the speculation for September. Go Demons! Well done to the B grade on a well deserved victory after being so competitive in the opening three rounds but just not securing the points. With players missing and playing out of position and the like, to be as competitive as you have has been amazing and the remaining rounds should see the results come. C Grade and A Reserve continue to be the standout teams in the club at the moment as they continue on their winnings ways in convincing style, while it was good to see the 13 & under girls rise to the challenge and come from behind the score a victory. A fired up Jordyn Adams certainly made sure the girls secured a win and her combination with Jess in the defensive circle is really starting to show some great promise. Imogen was also outstanding at the attacking end to ensure the turnovers counted on the scoreboard. Tonight we have the season’s first social event so hopefully you’ve got your team primed for the Minute To Win It night - $10 a head – 8pm start and teams of 4-6...hope to see you there or at least at the club for presentations and tea.

“THE WESTERN”

Saturday started and finished in great style with the U/13s winning their 1st game. Reid Kuller was best for us, Sean Ross, Laclan Jones, Tom Mc Court and Seth Lock rounded out their top 5 best. Lachlan Jones with multiple goals headed up our scorers, with,Mitch Hann, Tom Nieuwenkerk, Bryce James and Jack Donohue one apiece. The U/15 boys started slowly and lack of concentration in the first half certainly cost them and ended playing catch up footy. Nathan Taylor was best , with Shane DeJong, Jake Brown, Jett Attard, Bailey Symonds and Jack Geddes kept at it all day . Bailey Vonduve was our sole goalkicker. The U/17s didn’t fare much better however the scoreline wasn’t a true indication of how the game played out. Jordan Ross was solid in defence and repelled many North forward moved, Liam Beckman tried hard all day, Lewis Lean, Aiden Pfitzner and Nathan Tilley rounded out our best. The reserves came up against a side that has mauled all sides that it has played and Saturday was no exception. Niall Easterbrook was creative until injured. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. Nathan Koopman was second, Brodey Koop did some good things to be our third best. Comeback kid Bobby Bouchier was fourth and Matt Weyers battled against some monsters in the ruck. Our day got better in the main game with the boys bringing the Tom Hall trophy back to Malseed Park. Whilst the usual suspects figured highly in our best, it was the younger brigade of Jaymie Dobie, Adam Gibbs, Jesse Pfitzner, Sam Robson and Mitch Kipping that really stood up and figured in a resounding win. Nic Allen awoke from his slumber and kicked 5 in a great display of power marking. Captain Brad Wilson showed his class and “clunked a couple in the last quarter to put the game well and truly out of our traditional rivals. Today we travel to South and need to get the supporters onboard and en masse to get behind the boys and bring home the points in all grades. Last week we headed over to Vansittart Park to meet North. We had a pretty mixed bag with 4 wins and 4 losses. The teams all looked fantastic in their Pink headbands, and a huge thankyou to all that donated back to Breast Cancer Network Australia – it is truly a special day. While we are congratulating – congrats to Mollie Muhovics on her selection in the Western Border representative side – Good luck Mollie in your tournaments this year. On the social front the netball is looking at having a “Buddy Night” on Saturday 31st May – where we are inviting players to come and have tea with their “buddy” on that night. Buddy allocations will be handed out shortly, so please come and support the club and get to know your buddy – we are looking at having a few games and (hopefully) a photo booth set up as well. A reminder to all players to come up and support the club for teas – we have had a run where there have been private functions, but the club is open for teas tonight so please come along – awards will start at 6.30. Award winners from last week were: A Grade 49-56 Kahli R and Carly T, A Res 50-62 Sammi and Sophie, B Grade 33-31 Kazza and Chloe, C grade 39-32 Bec and Nic, 17’s 33-31 Tahlia and Olivia, 15’s 21-18 Ashleigh and Georgia, 13s 1-57 Hannah and Katie and the 12s 4-56 Ella and Emily D. Good luck to everyone today as we venture all the way across town to BLSP to take on the Demons.
