After many months of planning the WBAI hosted our annual Judicial Reception, March 1, 2018 at the Chicago Cultural Center honoring Judge Clare McWilliams, First District Appellate Court Justice Terrence Lavin, and Virginia Kendall of the Northern District of Illinois with the Mary Heftel Hooton Award. The event was attended by over 600 people from the judiciary and the legal community. The Judicial Reception Committee Meeting, co-chairs by Kristen Lukaszak, Dina Ninfo and Courtney Lindbert, along with their hardworking committee did a truly outstanding job.
On January 10, 2018, the WBAI Annual Dinner Committee kick started their planning process for the 2018 Installation dinner, installing Karie Valentino as our 102nd President. The Annual Dinner, which will be held June 13th at the Hilton Chicago, and is one of the best attended bar association events in the State. At the dinner, the incoming president, officers and directors are sworn-in and celebrated.

In addition to committee membership opportunities, charitable events and networking initiatives, the WBAI is proud to continue to offer the Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program to our membership in 2018. This MCLE program initiated by the Illinois Supreme Court Commission on Professionalism, pairs new lawyers with experienced WBAI lawyers, who serve as mentors providing guidance to their mentees. Sponsored by over 80 organizations across Illinois, this mentoring program provides a flexible structure for practical learning within the context of the mentoring relationship. WINTER 2018
On January 26, 2018, the WBAI threw its inaugural Women in the Law Summit at Loyola Law School to address compelling issues women in the legal community face today, while providing tips, strategies and connections for success. Participants in the Law Summit earned CLE credit while hearing from captivating panels addressing: “Breaking Through Bias: Communication Techniques For Women,” “Charting Your Own Path: Roads to Success,” “Turning Your Stress Into Your Strength: The Power of ‘No’ and ‘Yes, Please,’” “Leading As Women: What Really Works,” “The Male Perspective: Supporting Women as Leaders in Law.”
