ANNUAL HOLIDAY GIFT BAG EVENT
THE COMMUNITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE PROVIDES GIFTS TO THE FAMILIES OF THE WOMEN’S TREATMENT CENTER By: Kristen Lukaszak This December, the Community Outreach Committee proudly supported the Annual Holiday Gift Bag event to benefit The Women’s Treatment Center (TWTC), hosted by Andie Kramer and Jennifer Mikulina at McDermott, Will & Emery. Each year, the hostesses spend the weeks leading up to the event collecting donated gift items, including hosiery, hats, gloves, socks, and toiletry items. On December 7, volunteers gathered at McDermott to stuff the holiday bags with gift items and learn more about the purpose of TWTC. By raising nearly $1000.00 in monetary contributions from WBAI members, the Community Outreach Committee purchased hundreds of gift items to be donated, including shampoo, conditioner, and deodorant. Additionally, several WBAI members, along with other volunteers, attended the bag-stuffing party for a festive evening of preparing gifts, meeting new people, and enjoying a fabulous spread.
The holiday bags were given to the families served by TWTC, an organization dedicated to assisting mothers in treatment or recovery for substance abuse. This year marks the fifth year the WBAI has participated in this event, and establishes our relationship with the Women’s Treatment Center as a supporter of its mission. The Community Outreach Co-Chairs would like to thank everyone who contributed to this cause, either monetarily or by volunteering her time. MOJO SPA EVENT IN WICKER PARK By: Genevieve Niemann
The WBAI hosted a networking event at Mojo’s Spa in Wicker Park for current and potential new members, complete with manicures, wine, appetizers, and great networking. Mojo’s Spa is a relaxing and fun environment and prides itself in making all organic homemade body care products from head to toe. Attendees were able to try many of Mojo’s quality beauty products and even left with a special spa gift. Some of Mojo’s most popular products are their exfoliant body scrubs and delicious cupcake bath bombs. Many 1Ls at the event were introduced to some of Chicago’s greatest female legal leaders, which sparked their interest in further involvement with the WBAI. Many new connections were made, and old ones rekindled. These relationships will hopefully blossom into future career development, mentorship, and leadership opportunities within the organization. Genevieve Niemann is an associate at Patton & Ryan LLC, a personal injury insurance defense firm specializing in defending multimillion-dollar catastrophic loss claims. She litigates many different areas of law such as medical malpractice, construction defect, maritime, premises liability and other mass torts.
