Reflecting on James J. Hill Days
Our Mission To advocate for and promote the interests of our retail, professional and community members.
As I reflect on all that took place during our 43rd Annual James J. Hill Days I’m struck by the incredible community we are blessed with. While it’s always a celebration of our lake, our railroad and our people, this year was also marked with tragedy as Officer William Mathews was killed in a tragic auto accident on September 8th.
Our Vision Experience Wayzata, Minnesota’s destination embracing Lake Minnetonka where engaged businesses and community thrive together.

Thank you to everyone who made
James J. Hill Days a success!
As everyone grappled with the impact of the loss in their own way, I could share countless stories of our city and residents stepping up to embrace the family of Officer Mathews and the Wayzata Police Department.
The group I specifically extend our thanks to is the incredible service of our surrounding community police departments. On a moment’s notice on Friday afternoon officers stepped in for their brothers and sisters in the Wayzata Police Department allowing them time to grieve their loss. The service continued throughout the entire weekend as over 50,000 people came through town. This isn’t just an extra patrol route that was added but a full security presence with officers on the ground all day and night. They did it without hesitation and unless one looked at the specific city they represented on their uniform, you would never know they weren’t planning all along to be there. This truly was a gift that means the world to our Police Department, our City teammembers and our community along with all the volunteers and attendees at this year’s James J. Hill Days. If you have any contact or connection to the following police departments please continue to communicate our warmest appreciation and gratitude. Eden Prairie Police Department
Excelsior Police Department
Minnetonka Police Department
Hopkins Police Department
South Minnetonka Police Department
Hennipen County Sheriffs Department
Plymouth Police Department
Maple Grove Police Department
Please continue to keep the Mathews family and the Wayzata Police Department in your thoughts and prayers.
