1:10 HOMEWORK What did you learn this week? Read Revelation 13:1-18. Take some time to discuss this passage and what is happening here.
WEEK 23: ARE YOU THE REAL DEAL? REVELATION 13:1-18
Revelation 12-14 is a parenthesis, a side story that John gives us to help inform his readers’ overall understanding of Revelation. We do not hear of God’s wrath again until chapter 15.
A “Great Sign” = SYMBOL The “Woman” = ISRAEL The Dragon = SATAN The Child = JESUS
GENESIS 3:15; GENESIS 37:9-11
Are YOU for real?
The basic tenants of the doctrine of the Trinity can be summed up as follows:
1. God is three PERSONS
God the Father, God the Son, God the Spirit
2. Each person is FULLY God. 3. There is ONE God.
False Trinity of Revelation 13:
1. The Dragon: SATAN False Father 2. First Beast: ANTICHRIST False Son 3. Second Beast: FALSE PROHPET False Holy Spirit
Our Statement of Faith declares that there is one God, who is “eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.” Theologically, this is called the Trinity. The Trinity is the one doctrine that distinguishes Christianity from all other religions. Can you think of some biblical texts that validate the doctrine of the Trinity? What do each of the following passages teach about God, specifically what do they reveal about his triune nature and the relationship of Father, Son, & Spirit? Deuteronomy 6:4 Mark 12:29 1 Corinthians 8:6 Hebrews 1:3 John 1:1 Acts 5:3-4 Genesis 1:1-2; Genesus 1:26-27 Matthew 3:16-17 Matthew 28:19-20 2 Corinthians 13:14 Ephesians 4:4-6 Jude 20-21 What is the significance of the Trinity in... Creation? Redemption? Community/Fellowship? Read John 8:44. How does Jesus describe Satan? (See also John 10:10; 1 Peter 5:8; 1 John 3:8) Read 2 Corinthians 13:5. Are you the real deal? Compare the Antichrist in Revelation 13:1-8 with Jesus Christ in Colossians 1:13-23. Compare the mark of the beast in Revelation 13:16-17 with the mark of the Holy Spirit, Ephesians 1:1314, Revelation 7:2-3.
