Week 4 | June 24, 2012 Wawasee Community Bible Church Milford, Indiana Pastor Josh Weiland

The Lord is My Shepherd Psalm 23:1-4

Psalm 23 is a powerful expression of confidence in God and in his sovereignty. He is my shepherd, and as one of his sheep I have everything I need. I just need to follow him.

About Sheep... Sheep are FOOLISH Sheep are FOLLOWERS Sheep are VULNERABLE

Sheep are STUBBORN Sheep are RESTLESS

About Shepherds... They KNOW their sheep. (both as a flock and as individuals) 1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

They FEED their sheep.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. 3 He restores my soul.

They LEAD their sheep.

He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

HOMEWORK Read Psalm 23. Psalm 23 is one of the most popular passages in all of Scripture. Why do you think that is? Do you have a favorite passage of Scripture? What is it and why? What are your favorite parts of Psalm 23? Read John 10:11-18. What do these verses teach about Jesus as our shepherd and his care for us? Pastor Josh covered some characteristics about sheep during the message. Why does the Bible often refer to God’s people as sheep? “Paths of righteousness” literally means “right paths”. Do you ever question the paths Jesus leads you in? What are some “green pastures” that Jesus has made you lie down in? Did you see it as a green pasture at the time? When did you realize it was? What are some things that deplete you?

They PROTECT their sheep.

4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Who is your SHEPHERD? Matthew 9:35-38 John 10:11-18

What are some things that restore you? Are you following Jesus as your shepherd and listening to and for his voice? Or are you wandering off like a foolish sheep? How can you be more deliberate about following Jesus? How can your 1:10 Group help you?
