EUROPEAN UNION CHAMBER ORCHESTRA

The European Union Chamber Orchestra have established themselves as one of the most outstanding chamber ensembles in Europe currently. They come to Watford Colosseum with the renowned Russian pianist Nikolai Demidenko who will perform Mozart’s youthful early A major Piano Concerto, with its lyrical second movement. This will be preceded by Elgar’s serene Serenade for Strings. The second half will start with Grieg’s Two Melodies and the concert will end with Mozart’s Symphony No. 40, regarded by many as his greatest symphony.

JOHN LILL

Ever since winning the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition in Moscow, John Lill has been regarded as one of the most distinguished of all British pianists. We’re delighted he’s performing in our first international series in repertoire he’s most renowned in. Beethoven’s Piano Sonatas are one of the summits of piano repertoire and John Lill will be performing four of the most popular of all Beethoven’s sonatas – the dramatic Pathetique, the lyrical Waldstein, the atmospheric Moonlight sonata and the romantic Appassionata.
