WATERKLOOF PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER 19 – 2013
5 August 2013
Public Holiday Friday 9 August 2013 is Women’s Day, an official public holiday.

A huge thank you to all the parents, children and staff who attended and contributed towards the first ever ‘High Tea’ held at WPS. It was a wonderful morning of song, speeches, poetry and readings. All present arrived dressed to the nines and the mothers who had so graciously offered to be hostess outdid themselves! Our children were wonderful and appeared to thoroughly enjoy the opportunity to perform for an audience. The sum of R7630 was raised! The English Department is delighted and the money will be spent on data projectors. Once again – thank you to all involved.

I am still requiring the assistance of at least one parent to help with the recycling program on a Wednesday morning on the soccer field. The parent would need to be at school at 07:00 till approximately 07:45. Any interested person should contact me via the school office. Please remember that we are still recycling paper, cardboard, plastic, tins, cans and glass every Wednesday morning. Refer to the ‘Communicator’ for details. REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE.

Last week was National Science Week and here’s a thought ….. How about commemorating it by organising a family trip to SCI-ENZA at the University of Pretoria for a hands-on experience. Entrance is free and their hours are from 08:00 to 16:00, weekdays only. Contact number – 012 420 3767. Alternatively, the SCI-BONO science exhibition at the SCI-BONO Discovery Centre in Johannesburg is well worth the trip. Many examples of technological and scientific projects are on display there. Congratulations to Mrs Lubbe and Miss Voigt for the stunning performance of our Senior Choir with Nadine and The Croons at the Musion on Saturday evening. The children excelled themselves and a wonderful evening was enjoyed by all. Thank you to all parents for their support and to Mrs Eagle and Mr van Niekerk for accompanying the choir. This was an extraordinary experience for all involved.

A reminder that we are supporting the SPCA this term. The following article appeared in the Record Pretoria East yesterday, parts of which we include: Sad end for the Waltloo SPCA The Tshwane SPCA has been forced to close down the adoptions section at the Waltloo SPCA due to the lack of funds. After running adoptions from the Waltloo SPCA branch for the past 30 years, the Tshwane SPCA has been forced to close down the adoptions section at the Waltloo branch due to the lack of funds. Not only are they moving the adoptions to the Centurion branch but 20 employees are also facing the danger of being retrenched.
Korky Levanon, spokesperson for the Tshwane SPCA said the Tshwane SPCA does not receive any government funding and relies solely on the community for financial support. Levanon thanked all their loyal donors for their support and understanding. She said the Tshwane SPCA remains committed to provide services for the prevention of cruelty to animals. “We appeal to the community to open their hearts to enable us to continue helping animals in need”.
All contributions of cat food, dog food, and small change are welcome.
