the future of watch shows on Shop

With Jim Skelton's departure from watchgeeks and ShopNBC I have pondering a few theories in my head and it has led me to question about the future of watch shows and ShopNBC as a network.. I believe that if Jim left ShopNBC..he did so on his own accord...If he found greater prospects at WOW, then it is also safe to assume that he might have seen the handwriting on the wall for Shop. With the economy in the tank, the cost for everything is going up and our dollar devaluation doesn't help very much...I have noticed over the years that watch vendors have been leaving ShopNBC and on air personalities have bounced back and forth between networks like JTV and Shop...I'm not sure if these actions were due to personal reasons, management decisions or the economy... If Jim left due to the fact that Shop's sales on watches were taking a nose dive and Shop in turn would not renegotiate a salary that was commensurate with Jim's talent and experience is it also safe to conclude that other vendors like Android, Stuhrling O, SWI and even Invicta may soon leave Shop as well..which would intern spell the kiss of death for a network that generates a good deal of revenue from watch sales..or at least did... I really hope I am way off base here....but Jim S. departure, had led me to have a lot of doubts as to the financial future of watch shows, vendors and ShopNBC as a path for some geeks how started out watch collecting in this way..

Watch and jewelry sales represent roughly 50% of their revenue. Watch shows/offerings aren't going anywhere. __________________

I'm sure Shop will be just fine It's not the end of the world as we know it. Only Jim and Shop NBC know the reasons no one should speculate on the reasons NBC is a very powerful company I'm sure this move will not hurt them.. It was in the Minneapolis paper last week that Value Vision now ShopNBC lost millions last quarter and they have changed the CEO last year to change this. They are working on brining in new and different items to try to be more profitable. I am hoping Jim saw the writing on the wall and desided to move to a more stable company. ShopNBC will need to be prifitable soon or it will be sold. I believe ShopNBC is owned by GE and if not profitable they sell the business. All I know is after what they did to me on my 67in Samsung tv that is kinda worthless to what they told me to buy it. I don;t buy anything else but watches from them That all goes to HSN that has free shipping and much better CS. I'm thinking since the watch sales have gone down due to pricing that they tried to renegotiate Jims contract since last night on his show he said he'll be back on Wednesday night now this. Even on this last Invicta sale on Shop the prices were higher than in the past and even the SR prices were way high. Its Shops problem i'm just wondering how Micheal and Eyal are taking this being in Basil. __________________

I agree that it is a loss that Jim is leaving and if he ends up competing directly with shop my money is on Jim. Shop has valuepays going for them and that is about all. Most if not all watches on shop can found elsewhere at significantly less money. How many of us got beat on TTV's? Plus there shipping fees are terrible. The economy is not getting better and shop has gotten more and more costly. With WOW now having valuepays they will be a force... __________________ Auto Pilot Orange/Black, SAN Auto 7750, SANII Auto LE SW200, SAN III (4), SAN III 7751 LE, SAS, Reserve Pro Diver COSC SW200, Reserve Pro Diver COSC Tsavorite Meteorite... Not sure why Jim left, but I'm really iffy on whether I care why or not. It doesn't change anything knowing the how's and why's. That said, Tim has to step up and I for one will give him that opportunity with my $$. Wherever Jim lands, I'll take note and shop accordingly....assuming he still is doing some kind of retail. It's been cool getting to interact with Jim and Tim on facebook. While we are not close friends, you get to interact like a group of guys all the same. Sometimes change sucks, but you just go with it regardless. __________________ PISTOLS FIRING...TOUCHDOWN COWBOYS!!!! As I remember SHOP NBC(Value Vision) is not a part of NBC/GE but pays a fee to NBC to be called SHOP NBC. A few dys to a week ago I read an online article that discussed Value Vision's(ShopNBC) improving financial state that could lead to a larger HSN or QVC buy out. Other forums have a lot of speculation. Frankly, it is none of our business as to why it happened. All I know is this site, along with a heck of a lot of interest in the hobby, came about because of Jim. I'm pretty darn sure he already has his next gig lined up and I am

looking forward to it. Watch Junkie View Public Profile Send a private message to Watch Junkie Send email to Watch Junkie Find all posts by Watch Junkie Add Watch Junkie to Your Contacts #18 Today, 06:36 PM

His reason for leaving isnt important to me but I was under the impression he had a new long term contract. I guess this will only help me with my plan to change my watch buying choices. Jim hyped alot of watches and sucked me into buying them.....Good luck Jim with whatever lies ahead. rice22 View Public Profile Send a private message to rice22 Send email to rice22
