Strange But True Ways to Save $8.00

Fake Insurance Claim Fail!

This seems like an awful lot of trouble to save eight bucks, but 52-year-old James Summers put on a maroon tie and black trench coat, grabbed a briefcase, walked into a Denny’s in Madison, Wisconsin, and he headed straight into the manager’s office.  James told him he was the new general manager.  He was not.  But no one in the restaurant realized it.  So James headed to the kitchen, cooked himself a burger and fries, then grabbed a Coke and sat down to eat.  That’s when the employees finally called the cops. When they got there and arrested him, James yelled to the other diners at the restaurant, “This is why you don’t dine and dash, kiddies.”  He’s been charged with disorderly conduct.  He also had some drug paraphernalia and a stun gun on him, so he’s been charged for possession of those too.

Intentionally injuring yourself on the job to get worker’s comp is a pretty low thing to do.  But if you’re going to put yourself through that, at least do it right. Last June, 28-year-old Victoria Colon of Union City, New Jersey decided she was going to pull a scam.  Victoria worked at Target, and rigged a shelf in a storeroom to drop a bunch of boxes on her.  Afterwards, she also pulled a shopping cart full of more stuff on top of her, and repeatedly hit herself in the head with some batteries.  Then she got up, ate some Goldfish crackers, made herself vomit near the fake accident to help sell the injuries, got back under the boxes, and called for help.  She hurt her head, neck, and back in the process. But she forgot one thing.  Target has security cameras in the storeroom, which captured her entire stunt.  She was indicted for fraud.  She could get up to 10 years in prison if she’s convicted.  There’s no word on whether any of the injuries are still bothering her.
