HISTORY AND CULTURE Historic Women of Michigan Michigan women have played an important role in the state’s history. From the early abolitionist and suffrage leaders to the first women politicians and activists, women such as Laura Haviland, Sojourner Truth, Martha Griffiths, Olga Madar and Millie Jeffries are inspirations to all of us. You’ll learn about Scandinavian human and natural histories, birds and wildlife, ancient castles and seaports, and Scandinavian architecture and design including that of renowned Finnish architect, Alvar Aalto.

Strolling the Streets of Italy’s Cities and Towns

Have you ever wondered how the Great Lakes were formed, why their water levels go up and down, whether they are healthy and who studies and manages them? Come learn about the largest lakes of the world, and what makes our Laurentian Great Lakes so special. Concepts such as resilience, eutrophication, and tipping point will be woven into a review of each lake with photographs, facts and stories of the people working to protect the lakes. You’ll find out how and why they have been damaged, the legal binational structure to repair and protect them and what you can do to help them.
