Our Campus

Campus recreational facilities include a swim center, fitness center, outdoor jogging path, outdoor tennis center, and indoor sports center with facilities for tennis, squash, basketball, and jogging. The newly-renovated Miller Library is the perfect space to relax and read a book or take full advantage of our computer labs, meetingrooms, and robust academic technology. Complimentary wireless internet service is available in all campus buildings, including residence halls. Classroom and Lecture Facilities We house over 50 high-tech meeting and lecture spaces, including three conference rooms and multiple large lecture halls with stateof-the-art audiovisual equipment, including projectors and dual-boot computers. Dining on Campus Focusing on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, our recentlyupdated Hodson Dining Hall provides a variety of food options to suit your breakfast, lunch, and dinner needs. Our awardwinning Executive Chef oversees a mix of prepared and made-toorder dishes. From fresh rotisserie chicken to vegan proteins to a good old-fashioned salad bar, there’s something to satisfy every palate. Whether you prefer to try new flavors, stick to what you know, or focus on dessert, our a-la-carte style service gives every diner the ability to tailor each meal to their personal tastes. Coffee, tea, milk, fountain drinks, water, and juice are always available. Diners with specialized needs will have no problem finding accommodation. Our newly-added “Rooted” station provides completely vegan and vegetarian meals, gluten- and dairy-free options are always available, and our Executive Chef and management team have been trained in allergen and celiac food preparation. They are always happy to help you find items that meet your dietary needs, even if it means creating a unique dish.
Accommodations Our mix of modern suites and traditional dorm-style residence halls provide comfortable overnight accommodations for more than 1,000 guests at a time. The new River dorms house groups of four in suites with a shared bath. Four-person apartments with two en-suite baths, fridge, and microwave are also available. Traditional dorm-style rooms are available in either doubles or singles. Complimentary laundry facilities are available in each building.
The College Bookstore From textbooks and supplies to toiletries and sundries, the College Bookstore provides. Whether you’re shopping for snacks or souvenirs, guests will find a wide variety of products to meet their needs.
Casey Swim Center A stand-alone indoor facility containing a 6 lane, 25-yard pool, scoreboard, timing system, and locker rooms.
Johnson Fitness Center Our comprehensive exercise facility houses a state-of-the-art conditioning center, 2 racquetball and squash courts, and an indoor field house with 200-meter indoor track, basketball court, and 4 tennis courts.
Cain Athletic Center The air-conditioned Cain Gymnasium houses basketball and volleyball courts. The gym can seat 800 fans and features wireless Internet, sound system and an electronic scoreboard. Other amenities include men’s and women’s locker rooms.
Schottland Tennis Pavilion Eight outdoor tennis courts featuring plexi-pave surfaces.
Roy Kirby Stadium Kirby Stadium is consistently considered the best turf stadium complex on the Eastern Shore of Maryland. Kibler Field is a professionally-maintained synthetic turf field with permanent NCAA lines for soccer, field hockey, and men’s and women’s lacrosse. The stadium has lights, skybox, capacity for 1400 spectators, and new state-of-the-art scoreboard.

Athey Baseball Field Washington College Athey Baseball Field is a professionallymaintained Bermuda grass NCAA-regulation baseball field. The field contains two bull pens, two dugouts, batting cage, press box, bleachers, and a scoreboard.
Softball Field Our professionally-maintained field is NCAA regulated with a fully skinned infield. It contains two batting cages, two dugouts, press box, bleachers, and a scoreboard.
Waterfront Campus Our planned 15-acre waterfront campus is under construction now. Our first phase, the Hodson Boathouse, is scheduled for completion in Fall 2018. The Waterfront Campus will also include a new home for the Center for Environment & Society inside Semans-Griswold Environmental Hall, and a pedestrian/bike trail connecting College facilities to Wilmer Park, downtown Chestertown, and the Chestertown Marina.
Hodson Boathouse The Hodson Boathouse is our hub for varsity, club, community and recreational water sports. For the benefit of rowers, there are 30 ergometers, a large rowing tank room, and dedicated locker rooms. Sailors have 24 boats and facilities supporting recreational and competitive sailing.
The Research Fleet The 46-foot Callinectes and 27-foot Boston Whaler Lookdown are available to charter for research or pleasure. Both research vessels can be equipped with an array of the latest electronics and environmental instrumentation including trawls, sonar, acoustic seabed classification systems, magnetometers and positioning systems used in mapping and evaluating geological features of the Chesapeake Bay. On the Chester River, sampling gear is used to collect water and sediment samples that are analyzed to measure nutrients, dissolved oxygen, algal abundance, toxic contaminants and other factors that tell us about the ecological health of the region. But we don’t restrict the fleet to science. Want to watch a river sunset? Bird-watching? We can make that happen! Callinectes is Coast Guard certified for 25 passengers. Lookdown can transport up to 6.
Environmental Campuses Whether you are looking for the chance to experience nature firsthand in a living laboratory or trawl the bottom of the Chester River in one of our research vessels, we offer unparalleled access to the unique environments of the Eastern Shore.
River and Field Campus The River and Field Campus at Washington College is the largest conservation easement in the state of Maryland – and there’s no place like it in the world. The 4,700-acre living lab incorporates 2.5 miles of Chester River waterfront, meadows, untouched hardwood forests, ponds, grasslands, marshes and riverine habitat. Just a 10-minute drive from the Washington College main campus, the River and Field Campus offers an unique living classroom for students and adults alike in all aspects of science and environmental studies. The size and scope of what’s being done at the River and Field Campus at Washington College can’t be experienced anywhere else. Students can be a part of field studies, bird banding, bird watching, and simply enjoying lessons learned from the environment.
Semans-Griswold Environmental Hall Washington College is constantly looking for new ways to enhance our environmental education facilities. Our new Semans-Griswold Environmental Hall will provide academic and lab spaces for the College’s growing environmental programs and house our Center for Environment & Society. It will also serve as a regional hub for hands-on research on the Chesapeake, and a magnet for thought leadership centered on the environment and the challenges facing the region, the country, and the world. Once open to the public, the building will include a network of sensors on the Chester River and Chesapeake Bay that staff will monitor and which will display the estuary’s natural systems as part of educating visitors. The new building will serve as a model of responsible design, achieving the Living Building Challenge certification and demonstrating the College’s commitment to stewarding the finite resources of the Eastern Shore and leading the way for environmental study, preservation, and advocacy.
