2013 Wascana Cup Men’s: Team Ric Steele 18.5 Points/Team Dustin Halvorson 13.5 Points When the dust finally settled, it was a sweet victory for Team Ric Steele. There’s no doubt that a shot here or there could have changed this entire outcome. Both teams displayed splendid shot making ability and really pushed each other to the limit for the final round. Heading into the second round, Team Dustin Halvorson had a 9 Point to 7 Point advantage with their Team playing very well. However Captain Steele and Vice-Captain Sean Kosior juggled their line ups heading into to the second day and it clearly paid off. “I applaud team Halvorson effort out there today. They played good enough to win, but today was just our day. With so many matches coming right down to the end, you know these guys really put it all on the line” said Steele. “ When the teams got released, I knew this was going to be close. Even though we lost, it was so much fun to be involved in the excitement and share this experience with so many great people” added Captain Halvorson “ I can’t wait until next year.” Captain Ric Steele had this to say at days end. “ I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many great golf shots. Guys were playing like they were on the PGA tour out there. Each year just keeps getting better and better. I don’t think anyone walked off the course today without a smile on their face.” Ladies: Team Tafaline Wall 8 Points /Team Pat Youzwa 8 Points It came down to a chip-off on the 18th green in front of over 100 spectators but in the end team Tafaline Wall walked out on top after an exciting day on the links. “ I couldn’t have written a better story book finish” said captain Tafaline Wall after her team defeated team Youzwa in the 2013 Wascana cup. “ All these ladies playing put in their best effort and no one should hang their head about the performance out there today.” “ Even though we lost today, everyone should be proud of themselves and how close we came to winning” added captain Youzwa. “ It’s so much fun to compete in these events. I’m so proud of the effort that all the ladies put in this year.” “ The event was such a great success. The weather turned out to be great and I think I speak for all the women that it was a blast.” Added Captain Wall “ It felt like we were involved in a professional event. All the teams walking around in their same gear and seeing the leader boards out there really made this special. Everyone did a great job of organizing this year.”

When you enter your score, remember to select Hybrid – R/W (Mid-Forward) Did you notice greens aeration in August , and wonder why Mike and his team were doing this? The USGA has provided a number of reports on the Wascana to ensure long term sustainability of our facilities. These reports are available on the Wascana website for your reading pleasure. The date of the annual “State of the Union “ has been rescheduled. This meeting is open to everyone - not just share holders. I encourage everyone to attend this meeting to better understand not only the current status of the Wascana, but the future plans as well. I look forward to seeing you there. The Wascana Cup was once again a great success. At the end of regulations play, both Team Youswa and Team Wall were tied. The win was determined by a “chip off ”. Congratulations to Team Wall on winning the Wascana Cup! Special recognition to: Deb Duncan, Trisha Delormier-Hill, Judy Giblett and Kim Walker on accepting the Chip Off challenge, and providing the spectacular and suspense filled finish. Wascana Mixed League For the final event of the season, the committee delivered a perfect early autumn evening with warm temperatures, a very sunny sky and no wind. Twenty five couples happily toured the front nine arriving back at the clubhouse just as darkness fell. A very satisfying meal of chicken and ribs was enjoyed by all before the winners were declared and draw prizes awarded. The devilish committee decided that the game of Yahtzee would be the basis of determining the winners of the golf. The instructions for filling out the score card were so complex that most ladies completed the scoring card after their partners had made a proper mess of it. In the end, Leanne and Ken Ripplinger had the highest Yahtzee score and received gift certificates from Boston Pizza and Tim Hortons. Matching gift certificates were won by Laurie and John Fedirko on the basis of their prowess at the Heads or Tails game. The evening’s sponsors, Harvard Western and Solvera, represented by Dave Pettigrew and Leo Verhelst respectively, presented draw prizes to Lorna Dewan& John Hudson, Brenda & Ken Leach, Jocelyn Souliere & Norm Beug, Margaret Huntington & Wayne Back, Judy and Carmen Giblett, Michelle & Rob Inglis, and Virgi& Don Punga. The Nelsons did not win a prize, however the Nelson Rule did apply.

Best wishes were extended to Michelle Inglis who was celebrating her birthday and to Danica and Greg Love who were celebrating their 33rd anniversary. The Mixed League regulars welcomed first timers Trisha Delormier-Hill and John Hill and Val and Rick Barteski who will no doubt become regulars next year. All in attendance heartily showed their appreciation for the hard work and time spent by the committee on making the Wascana Mixed League such a success. The committee of Danica and Greg Love and Elaine and Frank Verhelest are retiring with our sincere thanks. Next year the Wascana Mixed League will be under the stewardship of Judy Davis and Murray Westerlund and Karen and Chris Pasterfield. See you next year!
