THE PORTRAIT OF DORIAN GRAY 24-29 Jan By Oscar Wilde. Adapted and directed by Simone Fioravanti, this production is part of this year’s “Palkettostage” programme especially geared for teachers, scholars and students in English. Palkettostage was founded in 1985 as a support to teachers and produces drama in English, French and Spanish to expose Italian youngsters to the language and to attract them to the world of drama. Special performances for school classes are organised during the morning. In English. Teatro Orione, Via Tortona 7, tel. 0677206960. THE ROME SAVOYARDS Arsenic and Old Lace 7-12 Feb By Joseph Kesselring, directed by Sandra Provost and produced in collaboration with

Dramatists Play Service Inc. This popular play was written in 1939 and originally entitled Bodies in Our Cellar. The plot focuses on the two Brewster sisters, Martha and Abby, who have lived in their father’s house in Brooklyn all their lives and now as elderly ladies share it with their nephew Teddy. The two fondly tolerate Teddy’s firm belief that he is President Roosevelt, even to the extent of allowing him to dig the Panama Canal in their cellar. Their domestic bliss is enhanced by the increasingly regular visits of Teddy’s brother Mortimer who grows ever more fond of Elaine Harper, living next door. It seems that things will lead to the inevitable happy conclusion but when Mortimer makes a disturbing discovery the path to a happy ending becomes anything but clear. In English. Teatro S. Genesio, Via Podgora 1, tel. 063223432. Bor booking and information tel. 3478248661.
