I AM STRONG
Raise REsilient Children HOW TO Who Never Give Up

AS A PARENT, YOU PROBABLY WISH YOU COULD PROTECT YOUR CHILDREN FROM EVERY DISAPPOINTMENT, DEFEAT, OR SCARY CHALLENGE. ALTHOUGH THIS ISN’T POSSIBLE, YOU CAN TEACH YOUR CHILDREN TO BE RESILIENT.
ATHLETE MONTHOF THE
NIKITOS GORIN
What’s your favourite thing to do outside of school and the gym?

I like to go swimming, play with legos, and eat ice cream.
Who inspires you? Why?
My friend from Russia named Ilyah because he’s so strong and he’s good at sports like soccer.
What’s your favourite exercise and game we play in class?

My favourite exercise is rowing on the machines.
My favourite game is noodle tag. What’s something you’d love to do when you grow up?
I want to play games on my phone and eat ice cream whenever I want.
What is something you did this year that you
didn’t think you could do?
I just learned how to do toes to rings and now I can do 6 in a row!
What are you grateful for?
I am grateful for my toys, my food, and my mom.
What is one thing you would change about the world?
I would want to make the world a place without plastic.
I also want to stop the cutting down of trees to make paper and make paper out of something else.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be? Why?
That no matter what I try to do, I’d never get hurt and be unkillable. For example, if I tried to jump of a cliff and broke something, I would be able to heal right away.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned from being in the Movement class?
I’ve learned that I can be strong. What are your fitness goals?
I want to be able to be able to be able to clean and press a 15kg barbell.
What is something you are not allowed to do, that
you wish you could do?
I wish that I could buy all the candy I want and watch a movie for 2 hours.
What’s your advice for other kids starting the classes that might feel scared or nervous?
I would tell them not to worry and that we’ll play a fun game at the end of class.
What’s the best part about being a Bali kid?
You can eat amazing fruits every day because in Russia, where I’m from, you don’t have the same fruits.
Resilient children have grit. When they encounter a difficult problem, they try to solve it instead of giving up. When bad things happen, they quickly bounce back, ready to face the next challenge. When they make mistakes, they grow and learn from them. Resilient children are hopeful, optimistic, and strong. So while you can’t shield your children from life’s difficulties, you can provide the tools they’ll need to navigate them successfully. Here are five tips to help you raise a resilient child.
1. Be a Supportive Role Model
According to the Center for the Developing Child at Harvard University, the “single most common factor” for children who develop resilience is at least one stable, committed relationship with a supportive adult role model. The more positive adult connections a child has, the more resilient they will be. These relationships can be with grandparents, aunts and uncles, teachers, coaches, or any other positive adult in your child’s life. Your child watches and learns from everything you do, so model resilient behaviors. Be calm and consistent. Admit to your mistakes, but don’t agonize over them. Talk to your child about what you learned or how you can do better next time. You can also discuss how famous people paved their road to success through mistakes and failures.
2. Let Children Make Mistakes
3 Fun Facts about Me
• I know how to kick a ball really high.
• My favourite food are pizza and pasta
• Every day I watch 1 hour of movies.
As uncomfortable as it is to let our children make mistakes, this is one way that children develop resiliency. Lyons explains that if children never make mistakes, they’ll never learn how to fix their errors or make better decisions in the future. Failure teaches perseverance and problem-solving. It causes children to think about their actions and how to avoid repeating these mistakes in the future. The short-term results of preventing our children from making mistakes will be “more smiles and fewer tears.” But the long-term results may be weak coping skills and a lack of resilience.
3. Praise Children the Right Way
Researcher Dr. Carol Dweck found that the way we praise our children can affect their mindset and their inclination to take on challenges and persevere. When we give our children praise like, “You’re so smart”, they develop a fixed mindset. With a fixed mindset, children believe that qualities like intelligence are personal characteristics that don’t change or develop. As a result, they may avoid challenges that will test their abilities. Instead of giving “person praise” like, “You’re so smart,” or “You’re so creative,” try to give “process praise.” Focus on your child’s effort, as in, “I can tell you’ve been working really hard.” You can also give specific praise, like, “You really understand decimals!” Praising your child in this way can help them develop a growth mindset, believing that their abilities will grow through hard work and challenges.
When a child with a growth mindset makes a mistake, the child focuses on how to improve next time. When a child with a fixed mindset makes a mistake, they’re more likely to believe that failure is the result of personal characteristics, such as, “I can’t spell,” or “I’m just not good at math.”
4. Teach Children to Manage Emotions
Managing emotions is key to developing resilience. In his book “Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child”, John Gottman outlines three steps to emotional coaching. The first step is to teach our children that ALL emotions, even the worst ones, are okay. Negative emotions can be opportunities to learn about ourselves, grow, and learn how to cope with these feelings effectively. This step also involves helping your child label and validate his emotions. For example, you might say, “I understand you’re feeling angry because Joey wouldn’t let you play with his toys.”
The second step is to deal with bad behavior, if there is any, in order to set limits. For instance, if your child threw a tantrum, they would face the consequences. Explain that your child is not in trouble for feeling angry; they’re in trouble for the way they handled their anger. Finally, you problem-solve. Help your child brainstorm ways to fix the problem or to prevent it from happening again in the future.
5. Teach Children to Problem Solve Along the same lines, it’s important that we teach our children to effectively solve problems. When your child comes to you with a problem, help them brainstorm ways to address the challenge. For example, if your child is nervous about a test, talk through specific solutions like developing a study schedule, finding effective study strategies, and managing time. As you brainstorm, help your child consider what the results might be for each solution they propose.
Children who know how to tackle challenges head-on will grow to be resilient, taking failures and disappointment in stride, knowing that these are only problems to be solved.

Zoe Thielens
What makes you happy outside the gym?
I love to travel around the island and exploring something new every day, spending time with my friends & family, cooking and off course the sunshine.
Tips for beginners at crossfit? Be careful, before you realise it you are addicted.

Your favourite lift or movement?
I love all the gymnastic movements. I performed gymnastics at a high level but I had to stop due to my injuries. With the gymnastic movements in the workouts, I still can enjoy a little bit of the sport I loved doing all my life.
Who or what inspires you?
What You Can Do on Rainy Bali Season!
A bit about yourself?
I am Zoe Thielens, 20 years old and I am from the Netherlands. I study finance and control. What do you do in Bali?
I am 6 months in Bali for my internship. I am working as a financial controller at a company that is investing in luxurious real estate. Why do it at home, when I can do it in Bali right..

When I don’t have to be in the office I’m taking any chance I have to explore the island a bit more.
How long have you been training at Wanderlust?

I have been at Wanderlust for 2 months and I will definitely continue to train here for the next 4 months. Why did you choose Wanderlust?
I just started CrossFit before I came to Bali. They told me I had to keep doing it while I was in Bali and I got some recommendations about Wanderlust. So here I am.
What are your fitness goals?
To keep challenging myself and getting a little better every day.
Any fitness milestones you have achieved so far?
When the doctors told me I could never do gymnastics again I never thought that I would find another sport that I really liked. It took me some time during and after my revalidation to find a sport that I could do and that also suited me. But when I started crossfit, it was love at first sight…
All the people who just go for it. All the people who are dying during the workout but just keep going. Don’t, complain, don’t give up, just go for it.
What challenges did you overcome last year?
It felt like I needed something new, that led me to the opportunity to go to Bali and I just went for it. I left everything and everyone that I knew behind to come to Bali and it is the best choice I made.
HOW HAS 2022 BEEN for you?
I will be in Bali for the rest of 2022, so I will just enjoy living the dream life before I have to go home again.
JUST LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD, BALI IS NOT ALWAYS SUMMER. USUALLY, BALI RAIN FALLS FROM OCTOBER TO MARCH, WITH DECEMBER TO FEBRUARY BEING THE HOTTEST AND WETTEST MONTHS.
These are some activities you still can do to enjoy living in this island:
First, cooking. You can cook at home, of course. But you can try to join some cooking class as well and learn to make the original Balinese recipes. The menu starts from Betutu Chicken or Duck, Sate Lilit, Lawar, or Jinggo Rice. Many hotels hold cooking classes for menus like this.

Second, to the spa. There are lots of places that offer great spas. This is the right way to pamper yourself and take care of your appearance in the midst of your busy routine. In particular, there are many spas that offer special Balinese aromas and services.

Next, if you really like the waves and have big enough guts, the rainy season is not a barrier to doing wave riding. Surfers can head to the beaches in Uluwatu, Canggu, or Kuta for beginners, for challenging waves. But remember to stay alert for lightning. You can also take art classes and hone your skills. There are so many art classes that you can find, for example batik painting at the Bali Culture Center in Ubud that will make you realize that batik painting can be relaxing and fun. Also, if you head to Canggu, there are lots of modern dance classes that you should try. These classes are good for not only making you physically fit, but also making your heart happy, and meeting new friends too. If you are interested in the traditional dance, you can find some classes offered in Ubud. See? There are a lot of options you can’t miss!
However, the most important thing is to stay safe and healthy. Bring an umbrella and raincoat wherever you go, and be careful when driving!
Did you choose who you are becoming yet?

EVERYONE IS BECOMING SOMEONE FROM THE MOMENT THEY ARE BORN. AND IT IS ALWAYS UNINTENTIONAL UNTIL IT’S NOT. TIME TO CHOOSE WHO YOU NEED TO BE?
available resources. But it goes further than the external world, and applies to our internal being too.

Once we are emotionally connected with our ideal future, it becomes relatively easy to price it up. Most people unconsciously avoid doing that though because it would mean gaining an awareness of coming to terms with what it would require to achieve that. It would mean a choice in if they’re willing to take responsibility for who they’ll need to become to make it possible. The commercial reality is that, the more all you want costs; the more valuable you need to become, as a human being in society.
So the question becomes; How much effort are you willing to put into learning to generate value for others?

Given that every action, reaction, and behaviour is driven by deeply ingrained thinking patterns, change must start here. In the mindset. We need to develop a Mindset for Success. Of course, there are many dimensions to how humans shape their individual version of reality. The core four we go deep into within the Adventurepreneur Accelerator Program are:

Attributes/Characteristics - the qualities, attitudes, the energy you bring and show up with. Standards - your personal rules or commitments to yourself in what you will hold yourself to. Expectations - the way others treat us says nothing about them, but everything about us. What are you willing to accept, and will not tolerate?
Beliefs - What are you subconsciously seeking to confirm? To be true about yourself and the reality that you live in?

Of course each of these dimensions are huge and could have a limitless depth in which each of us can connect with even more. Modelling is a fantastic strategy in developing aspects of self we want more of. Who is your model of excellence or model of demonstration? (specifically in the areas you are improving). Success leaves clues. Every outcome or result required an input. Take notice.
Criteria for choosing your model:

• Who are they? In how they are showing up, interactions with others, their behaviours.
• What have they done? Their achievements, successes in this area, results being generated.
The point right now is to draw attention back to the intention of designing ourselves. A version of us who we can fall in love with even more. You choose you for you. And from this place, live a life that truly lights you up daily regardless of what is going on at the moment.

I’d love to invite you to download the free resources here to give you a framework to follow and bring the exercise to life even more for you in where you’re currently at.

This is the fifth of a series of articles that each represent a module from one of my coaching programs. It is designed to provide the thinking and structure required to create a life that you can fall even more in love with. Stay posted for future articles for more free valuable resources!

Melukat Ritual
Then there is melukat Surya Yomana to remove stains and dirt on babies, Melukat Gini drifting for the treatment of illness, Melukat Prabu to ask for prosperity for the leaders, and Melukat Gomana, Melukat Semarebada, and Melukat Nawa Ratna.

Melukat is a ceremony performed to cleanse the soul and mind in humans. This tradition is carried out to clean up the mess of negative energy nodes of humans with the help of the universe. With purification, the layers in the human body are cleaned to make it more balanced, the mind will be brighter, full of steadfastness, peace, far from anger, and compassion. Balinese people continue to guard it to clean or purify themselves. Hindus in Bali believe that every human being has a
dirty nature and must be cleaned. So the melukat tradition is carried out to get rid of various negative things in humans.
The means used in melukat are holy water (usually made spiritually or from holy springs), fragrant (flowers of various types and colors), young coconuts are small or called bungkak, usually use green bungkak (Bungkak gadang) and yellow bungkak (Bungkak ivory)), and means of offering ceremony called pejati and canang. This ritual is also believed to provide positive benefits if done correctly and regularly and diligently, for example every full moon, tilem, or kajeng kliwon. However, keep in mind that hurting is not a way to atone for sin. For Hindus, the law of karma only stops when one has experienced moksha or complete liberation.

THE MELUKAT RITUAL IS CARRIED OUT BY BATHING OR POURING A PERSON'S BODY WITH SPRING WATER. BECAUSE OF THIS, MELUKAT IS ALSO CALLED A HOLY BATHING RITUAL.THERE ARE SEVEN TYPES OF MELUKAT CEREMONIES, NAMELY MELUKAT ASTAPUNGKU TO CLEAN AND PURIFY THE CALAMITIES CAUSED BY THE INFLUENCE OF THE DAY OF BIRTH AND THE UNBALANCED TRI GUNA (SATWAM, RAJAS, TAMAS).

Terompang Beruk

TRADITIONAL MUSIC
TEROMPANG BERUK IS A TRADITIONAL BALINESE MUSICAL INSTRUMENT SHAPED LIKE BLADES. THE BLADES ARE MADE OF WOOD, AND ARE HUNG FROM COCONUT SHELLS. THIS COCONUT SHELL IS REFERRED TO AS BERUK BY THE BALINESE PEOPLE.

The monkey is useful for producing an echoing sound. Usually, the Beruk Terompang is used to accompany sacred dances from Bali. For example, accompanying sacred dances during Pujawali at Pemaksan Bangle Temple every two years. This instrument is made of curved wooden blades where the sound of each blade is adjusted to match the actual tone of the binoculars. In order for the sound produced to be able to play (resonate) then under the wooden slats are installed or hung "beruk" (coconut shells) whose size is adjusted, adjusted to the tone of the blade above. Then the blade which was originally made from a combination of wood, was changed to iron in the hope that the sound would be melodious and that it would add several sets of gamelan instruments, so that it became a set of terompang beruk gamelan.
The history of the appearance of the terompong beruk in Karangasem, especially in Banjar Bangle is not known for certain. According to the people's narrative, the ape binoculars have been around for a long time and have been used for generations. Seeing the simplicity of the forms and materials used, the art of Terompong Beruk is a form of the community's active response to the natural surroundings. Banjar Bangle in the past was a relatively isolated area, so that people took advantage of the potential of the surrounding nature as an art tool. At first, Terompang Beruk was only known around the Bangle community, but gradually Terompang Beruk became widely known in 1979 when Seeka (a group name) Terompang Beruk Bangle representing Karangasem district made its first appearance at the Bali Arts Festival in Denpasar.

The Brunch Club

The Brunch Club group of restaurants first launched in Bali in 2019, with the sole objective of disrupting café culture. By introducing completely unique recipes to the island, they have ensured that Brunch Club will never be “just another café”.

Their venues are open and breezy, combining Melbournecafé vibes with nods to the surrounding areas and culture. Their flagship, two-story Legian restaurant is constructed using the traditional Balinese temple brick façade, concealing a modern café/bar on the ground floor. An expansive roof terrace on the first floor provides views out into the neighbourhood and beyond.

MANGGIS in Canggu
Manggis in Canggu is a family project that combines their passions for food, coffee and drinks. The idea for Manggis in Canggu started out a few years ago, when they were living abroad and dreaming about coming back to their home country Indonesia. In 2018 they returned to Bali after many years in Australia and Europe, and decided to take the plunge—Manggis in Canggu opened its doors in mid-April 2019 and brings a new twist on plant-based food to Canggu.
Manggis in Canggu offers a wide range of plant-based dining options. Their specialty is no-frills vegan food that combines flavors of the East and the West. They strive to offer food and drinks that are balanced in taste and respectful with the environment. They also serve specialty coffee made from locally roasted coffee beans. If you come here, their scrambled tofu is recommended to try! Scrambled tofu seems such a common dish as it is already widely served in vegan cafés in Bali and abroad. Their scrambled tofu has that perfectly balanced umami taste and is texture-wise at the sweet spot between soft and slightly firm. It comes with sweet tempeh and a fresh green salad (for that slightly sour taste).

They also have Beetroot Ravioli that is filled with cashew spinach cream ‘cheese’ and served with homemade vegan basil pesto and cashew parmesan. Also, they have cocktail Mary Sayang (their version of Bloody Mary) with vodka, gin, tomato juice, basil, sugar syrup and black pepper, and many more. There are exceptional plant based foods through a variety of experiences. Menu includes all-day breakfast items, salads, appetizers, different mains, desserts, and coffee. Address: Pemelisan Agung Street No. 07 Tibubeneng 80361.
But to get this refreshing drink, you don't need to go to Bangli. You can also find it in several food stalls throughout the island of Bali. Loloh is a traditional herbal medicine that is usually consumed by Balinese people to maintain body freshness. Generally, this loloh is made from turmeric or temulawak. But in Penglipuran Village, the loloh that is sold is made from kecemcem leaves. Some of the ingredients contained in this drink are cemcem/kloncing leaves or kedondong leaves, tamarind, sugar, salt, shrimp paste, and chili. Although it is included in the type of herbal medicine, the taste of "Loloh Cemcem" is different from other herbs.
Made from cemcem leaves or commonly called forest kedondong, this drink has a unique taste. There is a collection of sour, salty, sweet, spicy, and also slightly sour flavors. This flavor variation is created from the constituent ingredients. Cemcem leaves have a sour and slightly bitter taste, added with rujak seasoning as a neutralizer, and
