CELL-CAST A New Cast Design to Make Treatment More Comfortable
Cell-Cast is a new cast design that improves the overall healing experience for broken bones. Unlike traditional casts, Cell-Cast is lighter, more breathable and waterproof to treat patients comfortably.

Problems of the current casting method After a bone is broken, it needs rest and support to heal properly. Plaster and ďŹ berglass are two most common types of the cast material. But, whether plaster casts or ďŹ berglass casts, If moisture enters the cast and moisten the cotton layer that serves to protect the skin, it is difďŹ cult to get dry and easily causes bad odor, itching and skin irritation. That make patients feel uncomfortable. Besides, once the injury heals, the doctor will remove the cast with a special saw. However, when patients especially children hear the sound of sawing and witness the saw is cutting off their cast, they get scared. So, there is a need for a more effective and comfortable treatment for patients who have injured bones.
SCARY REMOVING PROCESS BY SAWING
Experimental process Considering that the cast material not only should be easily molded to the shape of the injured areas but also be hard enough to support and protect broken bones, I would like to use a low-temperature thermoplastic material as my cast design material. It can become soft when it is heated and easily be molded. As it is cooled, it will become as rigid as general plastic and it is a reversible reaction. Besides, this material is non-toxic and reusable. By utilizing this material, there is a new possibility to improve current casting method.
Two key insights I got from my material experiments. 1. Some of low-temperature thermoplastic materials have elastic memory and won't slump when it is activated by heating. 2. In order to mold a cast quickly and precisely, we can use low-temperature thermoplastic material to make a tube ďŹ rst. After sliding the injured limb into the tube, we can easily mold the tube into a personalized cast.
Concept Cell-Cast is a new cast system that utilizes low-temperature thermoplastic material to make comfortable and personalized casts for patients. Its hollow design and waterproof material leave most of the skin exposed and allow patients to wash injured areas, solving itching and sweaty mess that arises from trapping heat and sweat inside like a traditional cast does. By assembling Cell-Cast units, orthopedic doctors can make varied sizes of casts according to patients' injured areas. Cell-Cast can be easily molded to ďŹ t the patient when it is heated. After getting cooled, it hardens and become rigid to support and protect broken bones.
Easy to make varied sizes of casts Cell-Cast consists of three types of modules. According to patients' injured areas, orthopedic doctors can quickly make varied sizes of casts for patients by connecting these three types of units. For example, a ďŹ nger cast may need three pieces of body units with six cap units; an arm cast may need forty pieces of body units with twenty cap units.
How it works The design utilizes low-temperature thermoplastic material which can become soft and bendable when it is heated. It enables a doctor to make a ďŹ‚at cast into a tube cast and easily shape the tube to ďŹ t injured area. Once the cast is cooled, it hardens and can support broken bones.

Its hollow design makes the cast more breathable and prevents the discomfort that arises from trapping heat and sweat inside like a traditional cast does. Besides, the lowtemperature thermoplastic material isn't affected by water, allowing patients to take a shower freely or go for a swim.
Better removing process Unlike using a special saw to cut off the cast, Cell-Cast can be easily removed by pliers. Instead of sawing with scary and loud sound, cutting off will reduce the fear of removing process.
Eco-friendly cast Unlike current cast, Cell-Cast doesn't need cast padding or stockinette to protect skin. So, it reduces medical waste. Besides, it can be recycled after the patient had his or her Cell-Cast removed.

Problems of exhibit displays for exhibitors When it comes to exhibits or short-term time shows, exhibitors will prepare tables or pedestals to show their works and products. However, in order to make attractive displays, it would bring some problems for exhibitors. First, it costs a fair amount of money for customized displays, and exhibitors need local manufacturersâ€™ help as well. If exhibitors have lower budgets, they would tend to assemble their displays with ready-made furniture which is not designed for exhibits. For one more thing, most of current exhibit display systems are designed for trade shows, not good to display styles, images or innovations.

Concept POPUP GALLERY solves the problem when exhibitors want to show their works with attractive displays but without unnecessory resource waste. It is reusable and easy for users to set up, transport and create varied display scenarios. It can be constantly changed to ďŹ t different aesthetics and needs. Moverover, a basic set can be assembled to form a 3m x 3m display and can be carried with a suitcase.

Features POPUP GALLERY enables users to create ideal display pedestals by themselves with ﬂexible bases, simple ﬁxed structure, and stackable feature. It combines with honeycomb structure which is lightweight but strong enough and ﬂexible to stretch to make varied sizes of bases. It can also be compressed to save space for easy storage. The slotted feature on each base enables users easily to ﬁx the shape by inserting connectors and make it sturdy without any glue or additional tools. Moreover, the base piece can be stackable to each other and can constantly be mixed and match with table boards to ﬁt different aesthetics and needs. This design help exhibitors spend less money to make their desired displays.

Trayscape is a set of trays that invite users to design their ideal trays for their desks and homes.

Concept Trayscape is made of clear acrylic with paper insert slot. It allows users to personalize their ideal tray when they insert varied color or printed paper into it. By users' imagination, Trayscape will have an endless appearance. ORB BATH is a new and advanced way to bathe comfortably and sustainably, as a solution to the expanding issue of water shortage.

Why waterless bathing By 2025, 1.8 billion people will experience absolute water scarcity, and 2/3 of the world population will be living under water-stressed conditions. In recent domestic water usage statistics, the toilet, washing machines and shower are the largest consumers of water in the home. There are some ways to prevent water waste such as a vacuum toilet, dry cleaning and bath-substituting lotion. However, with regard to these waterless cleaning methods, it doesn't ďŹ t in with most humans' sustainability. They are onetime use products, targeted for people with either limited or frequent mobility such as mountain climbers, military, pregnant women and the disabled. Developing alternative method of reserving water is extremely signiďŹ cant to the well-being of the human race and future.

Exploration of cleaning way without water To ﬁnd the vision of waterless bathing, I thought of possible cleaning ways without water. Then, considering that some cleaning ways are harmful to human body, ﬁnally, I choose photocatalyst as the main method to clean body. The photocatalyst is a substance that after illuminated by light, can decompose organic compound, kill bacteria and remove odorous components that have reached its surface. Furthermore, I tried to ﬁgure out how people feel when they are bathing and applied similar feeling into the design.
Concept ORB BATH is a new and advanced way to bathe comfortably and sustainably, as a solution to the expanding issue of water shortage. Without water, warm air gently ﬂows around the body while the orbs cleanse you. The glowing orbs are a soft gel-like substance made of transparent silicone, coated with a photo catalyst ﬁlm containing titanium dioxide (TiO2), which is activated by light. Through the chemical compound's reaction to light, the cleansing orbs break down organic substances such as oils, grime, fungus, bacteria and odors. When you immerse yourself, the areas in contact with the orbs will be cleaned, because each light orb has a photonic detector to sense the level of ambient light and regulates optimally. The air ﬂow controls and status sensors are conveniently located within arm’s reach, which enhance the experience of the ORB BATH, and leaves you feeling relaxed, cleansed and refreshed.

Let orbs clean you Photocatalyst is a substance that after illuminated by light, can decompose organic compound, kill bacteria and remove odorous components that have reached its surface. Although photocatalyst participates in the chemical reactions, it is not consumed by the reaction itself. Very similar to how a plant absorbs sunlight to create and release water and carbon dioxide, although a photocatalyst can also work under visible light instead of harmful UV light and it is safe for skin.
Each light orb provides efďŹ cient light to the cleansing orbs and has a photonic detector to sense the level of ambient light in order to regulate it optimally. The light orbs are charged by the wireless charging system.

Comfortable air ďŹ‚ow comes out Considering that bathing is not just to clean oneself but is regarded as a relaxing activity, the design keeps a similar soothing environment of that of bathtub. The warm air from the bottom of ORB BATH ďŹ‚ows around body to warm the cleansing orbs, and creates the atmosphere of taking a traditional bath.
Vacuuming vent The vacuuming vents help clean dust and hair in the ORB BATH and the substance will be vacuumed out and stored in the dust bag.
Control panel The control panel is located within arm's reach for the user to easily control the temperature, the range of air ďŹ‚ow and cleaning time.

5/ At the end of the cleaning, the dust and hair left in the ORB BATH will be vacuumed.

miniGUARD Smart Safty for women
miniGUARD is a safety device with a small camera and a fridendly application to help women to protect themselves when they are being followed or in danger.

Problem When women walk alone especially at night, they will become nervous because they are afraid of being in danger. Once they think that they are likely being followed, some women will feel embarrassed or unsafe about turning around to see if the person is getting closer. It is also difďŹ cult for them to make a note of what the follower looks like and clearly tell the situation to their family or the police when they are being followed and feel scared. Besides, when women are in danger, they need instant help and protect them from physical assaults.

Concept miniGUARD is a device that prevents women from danger when they are being followed or in danger. It is designed as an accessory so that it can be tucked in women's bag or pants' pocket. It is connected to their smartphones. When women think that they are being followed, miniGUARD can work as a camera to let women know what is happening behind them. Through the speciďŹ c application, women can quickly send a message with GPS location and the image to their family for help. Moreover, they can activate the emergency mode and it will emit a loud alarm and send a help message for emergencies.
How it works miniGUARD has a wide angle lens, so it helps women check the situation behind them through their smartphones and helps them to protect themselves. With the speciďŹ c application, they can record the scene and save the data to their phones or to the cloud just in case their phones will be damaged.

KEEP FROZEN A New Fridge to Prevent Cold Air Losses and Energy Waste
KEEP FROZEN is a new refrigerator concept, which integrates air curtain to keep cold air inside the fridge when the door is open.

Problem In most homes, the refrigerator is one of the largest users of electricity. Every time people open the refrigerator door, it causes electricity waste because the cold air escapes from the fridge, and the refrigerator's compressor has to then drive to bring the temperature back to normal and consumes more power.

Concept KEEP FROZEN is a new refrigerator concept, which integrates air curtain to keep cold air inside the fridge when the door is open. It helps reduce energy which the refrigerator's compressor has to drive to bring the temperature back to normal. Besides, the air curtain won't inďŹ‚uence the way that people grab food and store food as usual with the fridge.
How KEEP FROZEN saves energy KEEP FROZEN integrates air curtain which is a broad stream of air and prevents cold air from escaping and warm air from entering. It is placed at the door side and can save 80% of losses.

EQUIRUN Synchronizing our way
Equirun is a new jogging program for visually impaired and the leader. It changs today's guidance which needs a rope held in hands and causes uncomfortableness and less ďŹ‚exibility, in order to improve the interaction between both of joggers.

Problems of jogging for the visually imapired The body of the visually impaired are just like ours and have comparable exercise needs. We reckon jogging as a moderate exercise for them. While jogging, the visually impaired should be led by the other companion. In most of the current jogging programs designed for the visually impaired, they need a rope as an assistant equipment for guidance. However, the guiding way of holding a rope causes pull and drag as well as rubbing each other's hand. Also, the guide has to focus on the direction they're heading for and keeping the same posture at all times, in order to stay away from the obstacles posted around both of the joggers. This interaction between the two is not inefďŹ cient.
BURDEN FOR THE GUIDER
Prototype & testing We began to make some prototypes to examine ideas. At ďŹ rst, we used acrylic tube which was put springs inside to make an retractable mechanism. Then in order to increase ďŹ‚exibility during jogging, we used globular connected part to connect belt part. After several prototypes, we invited 2 visually impaired including a professional runner and general user to use our working prototype and then improve it.

Concept Equirun is a new jogging equipment that consists of two belts connected by a guiding pole. It changes the traditional guiding way of holding a rope between the visually impaired and the leader. It makes the guidance more efďŹ cient and releases running guides' pressure. With the distance sensing part inside the guiding pole, blind people can know the distance by the sound and know more about their jogging state.
Guidance Aside from traditional left-and-right guidance, Equirun includes front-and-back guiding mode that makes the guidance more intuitive and efďŹ cient, which also eliminates several environmental constraints.

The product was to be aimed at yuppie men who care about their phone case's appearance compact and stylish but with complete protection and helpful function.

Design Challenge In this project, ESR, a company offering mobile phone and tablet accessories, planned to add a new series of products for their brand and also to add built-in kickstand phone case products to their product lines at the same time. Based on the client's current compact slim products, the client required a built-in kickstand phone case that is aimed at yuppie men.

Inspiration To mix style and function, we thought hiding the functional parts or reducing heavy or aggressive expression of built-in kickstand are two possible design directions to go. Besides, In order to keeps completeness visually and creates simplicity, the deisgn can be applied by dividing the form by straight line. Furthermore, the partial protrusion design can increase the protection and also bring reliable feeling for user.
Ideation & prototype
Concept The design reduces the functional expression and brings stylish features into the product. The kickstand is visually concealed as a splitting decoration and its transition surface beautifully keep the overall product size to a minimum.
Hands-free viewing The built-in kickstand works stablely in both horizontal and vertical angles, helping people enjoy media viewing and video chat.
Complete protection The design provides a dual layer protection - an enternal which is made with impact-resistant PC and reinforced with a TPU enclosure that absorbs shock, and is comfortably in the hand.

Inspiration I would like to combine classic image of audio equipment with modern style, giving a sound player new experience between digital and analog.
Ideation & prototype
Concept The simple shapes of both products express the efďŹ ciency of the system. To represent the pure sound, the main body is made of alumium which can enhance sound quality and help with heat radiation. By utilizing both solid alumium and aluminium sheet, it not only reduces the cost of production, but aslo creates enclosure-look appearance with no screws on the main surface. The black metal surrounding on the bottom makes the rubber foots invisible and keep aesthetic consistency. This neat look matches perfectly with most home envirnoment.

Concave feature saves the space and gives an elegnat appearance The back panels of STA 200 and WDC 200 are recessed, so it can reduce the extension of terminals and the heat sink. Similarly, the feature surrounding the volume button of WDC 200 is designed as a concave shape, allowing ďŹ ngers to hold the button easily but reducing the extension and giving an elegant appearance.
Visual brand language STA200 and WDC200 have the same design language so that they are easily to be regarded as a series.
