A fresh way forward

Bus changes in Wolverhampton and west Walsall

Information on changes

Bus changes in west Walsall and Wolverhampton There will be changes to routes, timetables and numbers for some bus services in west Walsall and Wolverhampton from Sunday 24th July 2011.

Detailed below are the changes to services run by the operators who are part of the review or who operate a service which is funded by Centro. These are listed in the key below. Smaller operators also run services within the network review area. Please contact them directly for details about their services.

Partners Arriva, Centro, Central Connect, Midland, National Express West Midlands and Walsall and Wolverhampton Councils are working together to deliver a more modern bus network.

Key for operators - ARR = Arriva, DIA = Diamond, MID = Midland and NXWM = National Express West Midlands

As part of the review we looked at whether the existing bus network is providing the right services for people within the area and to places such as health and leisure facilities and shops. We did this by asking for local views and looking at the number of people using the services, where services interchange and what changes could be made with the local buses in the area. We recently undertook a large amount of consultation and market research in the west Walsall and Wolverhampton area to ask local people and local representatives about their views on the current network. Over 1,400 people provided comments. We would like to thank everyone who took part to help shape the revised network.

Wolverhampton’s new state-of-the-art bus station will also open on Sunday 24th July. This means that some services may also have minor timetable and minor city centre route changes in addition to the more detailed changes listed in this leaflet. This is to reflect how they travel into and out of the bus station and Wolverhampton city centre. A leaflet about the bus station and a new city centre guide for Wolverhampton showing the new stopping locations for buses in the city centre and bus station will be available at the exhibitions detailed on the last page of this leaflet.

Network West Midlands Network West Midlands is the name that connects all public transport in the West Midlands metropolitan area (Birmingham, Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton). Centro, the West Midlands Integrated Transport Authority is responsible for developing and promoting public transport in the region. Centro works closely with the West Midlands district councils and the private companies who operate bus, train and Metro services. Centro also provides subsidy to the operator for all or some journeys on some routes. All partners in Network West Midlands are working together to provide better passenger information and to invest in improved facilities and services.
