The Emergency Services Personnel Appreciation Banquet was held Saturday night and Elected officials turned out in force to happily serve those who have served Walker County in Emergency Services for the past year. OUTDOOR EXPLORER PROGRAM FOR KIDS

ONE-NIGHT HEALTHY COOKING SCHOOL

The City of Huntsville is partnering with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department to learn basic safety for biking, hiking and kayaking. Enjoy the rest of the afternoon by exploring the State Park with bikes and kayaks provided by the City, free of charge. Class sizes are limited to 20 and pre-registration is required. Program dates are 8/24 and 9/28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Participants 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Entry fees to the park are $5 for adults and ages 12 and under are free.

Texas Agri-Life Extension Service will hold a one night Healthy Cooking School called Dinner Tonight! The school will be held Tuesday, July 30th and will begin at 6pm. All participants will receive a cookbook, a gift bag, and a chance to win door prizes. The cost of the cooking school is $20. Preregistration is required to attend and closes one week prior to the event. SPANISH CLASSES CONTINUE AT LIBRARY

Starting August 13, 2013, the Huntsville Public Library will be continuing its Spanish class series, Beginning Spanish classes Tues and Thurs from 2:00pm – 3:15pm, and Advanced Spanish classes Tues from 3:30pm - 4:45pm. The classes will be a continuation of the classes held this spring. Beginners welcome. Space is limited and registration is required. The Huntsville Walker County Chamber of Commerce will host their 4th Annual Diva Night which is a Ladies Night Out program featuring vendors, entertainment, hors d’ouvres and beverages served up just for the ladies of Walker County. MARCH PRIMARY ELECTION FILING SIGHTS FROM THE EMERGENCY TO BEGIN IN NOVEMBER SERVICES APPRECIATION BANQUET (HUNTSVILLE, TX) — Republican Party of Walker County Chair Tracy Sorensen recently announced that filing for a place on the ballot in the 2014 Republican Primary slated for March 4th would begin this November 9th at RPWC Headquarters at 1010 University Ave. Sorensen explained, “After last year’s confusing Primary schedule changes caused by redistricting challenges in the courts, interested citizens have been contacting the RPWC to ask about when filing will begin. We want to be clear that filing will not begin until November 9th so that everyone who is considering running for office has plenty of time to make their decision and prepare for filing.” The county-wide elected positions that will be on the ballot in 2014 include County Judge, County Court at Law Judge, County Clerk, County Treasurer, District Clerk and the 278th District Judge. Precinct positions include Commissioners representing precincts 2 and 4 and Justices of the Peace from all precincts, 1 through 4.
