of vehicles and individuals. With a strong commitment to quality and environmental responsibility, the reusable and recyclable products are capable of being utilized in the most extreme weather conditions. Strong interest in FAUN TRACKWAY products from the U.S. Department of Defense is largely due to U.S. military missions being located in some of the most extreme environments in the world. With modern warfare and relief operations often involving challenging transportation issues, FAUN TRACKWAY is confident of the demand for its highly durable and rapidly deployable products. Mike Holdcraft, Vice President of Business Development at FAUN TRACKWAY USA notes that, “FAUN is distinctive in that we understand that every mission is inherently different. Off-the-shelf products fail to meet these complex challenges and that’s why FAUN TRACKWAY USA works side-byside with our customers from the start. We make sure that all standards and operational requirements are met with tailor-made solutions, with durable technologies that withstand the toughest environmental challenges.” With its entry into the North American market, the company brings with it a wealth of production knowledge and engineering expertise from Wales’ long-established advanced manufacturing sector. In fact, Wales is home to some of the world’s most advanced manufacturing facilities and global defense companies, among them BAE Systems and General Dynamics.

Transatlantic Cooperation Following an introduction to the U.S. Department of Defense’s Comparative Technology Office by representatives of Wales in Washington, D.C., FAUN TRACKWAY has been able to quickly establish strong links with the U.S. defense market. As a result of support from the Welsh Government, the firm has gained access to potential collaborative partners, speaking opportunities and various trade missions that familiarized the company with the U.S. military defense market. After positive interest from the U.S. military service branches, FAUN TRACKWAY saw a large opportunity in the U.S. marketplace and sought to deepen the strong underlying relationships between the U.S. and U.K. that stem from shared historical, political and cultural ties.

The HEAVY GROUND MOBILITY SYSTEM has been engineered so a trained two-man team can rapidly deploy 50m of roadway in fewer than 10 minutes over the toughest of terrain.

to capitalize on overseas markets. After more than three years of research into the U.S. defense industry, which included visiting military officials and trade show exhibitions, the company opened the first sales office of its independent U.S. business in Washington, D.C. in July 2011. CEO Alun Jones also added “Opening a new office in the U.S. is an important strategic move in our long-term plans for growth. By increasing our on-the-ground presence in key markets we can get closer to our customers and capitalize on the enormous potential opportunity for our unique product set.”

Vehicle Recovery Mat technology is engineered for vehicles with pneumatic tires and works by providing a non-slip surface that enables immobilized vehicles to gain traction and short term movement.

The company aims to generate sizable new contracts by 2014, with the objective of creating jobs on both sides of the Atlantic. With the British Embassy hosting the firm’s launch event in the U.S., Edwina Hart, Wales’ Business Minister, welcomed the expansion as a “milestone” for not only FAUN TRACKWAY, but for all of Welsh manufacturing. Mrs. Hart said: “By breaking new ground in North America, FAUN TRACKWAY is ensuring it can continue to invest in North Wales while sowing the seeds for continued overseas growth. They will also be flying the flag for Welsh engineering excellence on the global stage.” The U.S. has encouraged greater crossborder defense cooperation, resulting in an increased European share of the

U.S. defense market. In the future, FAUN TRACKWAY’s cost-effective products will result in expanded business and trading links between the U.S., the U.K. and Wales. The company’s expansion into Washington, D.C. also represents a commitment to build on the historic relationship between the U.K. and U.S. militaries. Higher levels of joint research and development will allow for faster modernization of constantly evolving military needs in both countries. The strategic relationships of the Welsh Government with key U.S. defense industry representatives will continue to remain critical as FAUN TRACKWAY USA builds its presence and partnerships across North America.
