25 feet. Two large custom iron lanterns dangle over the kitchen islands, while a brass chandelier crafted with deep cobalt blue glass lights up the breakfast table. The finished product is a cozy kitchen perfect for whipping up a home-cooked meal—except when guests are over. “There’s actually a prep kitchen down the hall where the cooking takes place when the homeowners entertain,” says Jacobs. “This keeps the regular kitchen neat so people can sit around the counters and talk.” The residents also enjoy quiet time in their library-style home office. “This is my favorite room in the house,” says Jacobs, who dressed the space in “autumn shades” of tan, brown, red and green—all drawn from an antique Oriental carpet placed in the center of the room. Anchoring the space is a custom Victorian-style tufted brown leather sofa with bun feet and a custom coffee table with wooden legs and a “creamy white”
stone top. A swivel-base desk chair upholstered in butterscotch leather lights up the corner desk area, while wooden walls, dark-stained cabinetry and light-brown Pierre Deux wallpaper placed between ceiling beams add to the rustic library feel. “I love doing papered ceilings—it really gives warmth,” says the designer. To keep the room dim, silk curtains with yellow, green and red checks are draped over the high windows. “This room is in constant use,” says Jacobs. “The owners just love it.” Today, the couple relishes the cozy feel of their grand abode. But like any work of art, there’s always room for improvement. “We’ve never really finished,” says the designer. “We got it nicely done, but then starting adding things as we went along to make it more personal. But since this couple has lovely taste, it’s been a real pleasure.” ■
