WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM Saturday 18th May 2019 www.waimakunited.org.nz

COMMENTS FROM THE CLUB

Last weekend both our Senior Men’s CCL and Senior Women’s WPL had cup games. Our CCL team was paired up against MPL Western in the ISPS Handa Chatham Cup. A full time they drew, however Western took home the win 3-2. Well done to the team for their hard efforts. The WPL team had their Kate Sheppard cup game against Cashmere Tech, and with a goal scored by Gabi Rennie, the team took home the win 1 nil. Well done to the girls. This weekend the CCL and Reserves are playing at home against St Albans at A&P Showgrounds; 12.30pm for the Reserves and 2.30pm for the first team. Our WPL team are away at Ilam Fields kicking off against Universities at 12.30pm. Good luck to both teams tomorrow. To all our teams playing at home or away we wish you all the very best and hope you have an enjoyable game. Have a great weekend.

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB MEN’S CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE WAIMAK UTD VS ST ALBANS

2.30PM KICK OFF A&P SHOWGROUNDS RANGIORA

Coaches Comments I’d like to Welcome St. Albans to the show grounds this weekend where we continue in the CCL. After last weeks close lost to MPL high flyers Western we quickly turned our focus to St. Albans. We know they will be a tough side to break down but the boys have showed great work ethics through the week and are determined to continue our great league form. We welcome back a few boys from injury including influential captain Mitch Quigley. A huge thanks to the Waimak faithful who have been turning up each weekend to support the lads it doesn’t go unnoticed and we appreciate it all. Lastly I’d like to give a big well done to Mike De Bono, staff and the WPL side on a great victory against powerhouse Cash Tech in the cup last week. Good luck to all teams playing in Waimak colours this weekend. #upthemak #weareone

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE VS UNIVERSITIES 12.30PM KICK OFF- ILAM FIELDS

Coaches Comments This week we leave the cup competition behind us and move our focus back onto the Women’s Premier League competition. We head across the city to Ilam fields to face University. This weekend the team are looking to put on a better display than our last WPL game which saw us defeated by Halswell 7 – 2. Last weekend was round 1 of NZ Footballs Kate Shepheard Cup. This round saw us drawn against powerhouse Cashmere Technical who were top of the WPL competition not having been beaten. The girls went into the game affording Cashmere Technical the respect they deserved but approached it with a very positive mindset. The self-belief we are trying to instill in the players was very evident during a game which could have gone either way but happily we came away with a well-deserved 1 nil win to progress into Round 2 of the Kate Shepherd Cup. As we move into this weekend’s game, we will leave the euphoria of the cup competition behind and prepare accordingly to face a very tough University side. We are under no illusion that this game will provide new challenges, but this group of girls will meet whatever is thrown at them head on. We are looking for a performance which emulates the game played against Cashmere Technical. The WPL team would like to wish the CCL management and players all the best for this weekend’s game against St Albans Shirley as well as all other teams flying the Waimak United colors this weekend. The players and the management team would like to thank the club for its support in getting the season underway. We would also like to thank all our supporters and hope that they all enjoy the game today.
