FUTSAL It is great to see a number of our club members getting into Futsal. What is Futsal? Futsal is the only FIFA and NZ Football approved version of five-aside football and the world’s fastest growing indoor sport. The name futsal is derived from the Portuguese words futebol (football) and sala (hall). Futsal is a small-sided – 5v5 – game played with a smaller (size 3 or 4) low bounce ball, on a basketball sized court without rebound walls or nets. It is a game which combines fun, creativity, speed, technique, teamwork and quick thinking. NZF Futsal has been designed to complement New Zealand Football’s existing programmes and promote and improve participation in football in New Zealand.

Recently two of our Waimak United senior women’s players were selected in the Futsal Pride Senior Women’s team for the Women’s National Tournament; Sophie Williams and Macey Fraser. Over the course of the three days they competed in some very intense matches including a draw with eventual finalists Auckland 4-4, and an extra time loss to the Champions Bayside Pirates from Victoria, Australia. They finished 4th overall. Well done girls. Over the weekend of the 11th-12th March, a number of our players will be taking part in the Regional Secondary Schools Futsal Tournament. Rangiora High School have a team entered in the Senior Girls grade, made up predominantly of Waimak United players, so we will follow their progress with interest as they attempt to defend their title.

CLUB OPENING DAY

Sunday 26th March @ Kendall Park Put this date in your diary! For our competition grade juniors, mini football, and fun football, there is a game verse another of our club teams. This is our practice run to make sure all of our teams are ready to go for the first game the following weekend—1st April. First Kicks players are welcome to join in a fun session. This won’t be in your teams, but as a whole group. The schedule for the day will be available once all team placements are completed, and published on the club website. Most competition grade teams have been named and are on the website. The rest won’t be too far away. The local competition teams are currently being assigned and will be out next week. Players will receive an email.

There will be some gear available for purchase. Our tuck shop, and the sausage sizzle will be operating and Mr Whippy will be on site too.

Waimak U17 Girls National Tournament We wish our U17 girls the best of luck at the ACFC National Tournament over 17th-19th March. This tournament is also used by NZF to identify players for future honours, so we know our girls will be working hard to impress. They begin with games against Hamilton Wanderers, Western Springs (Auck) and Glenfield (Auck) on Friday, followed by Coastal Spirit (CHCH) and Eastern Suburbs (Auck) on Friday. Then onto playoffs on Sunday. A tough draw but the girls have been working very hard, and we look forward to updating you on their progress on the Facebook page and in our next edition.

Social Women's Football Hey Ladies!! Have you played football back in the day and thought about returning, or would love to give the game a go? Our social women's team are close to making a second team to play in the Sunday social women's leagues. They play Sunday's at 10:30am during the season. They are having a kick around on Wednesdays 6:30pm @ Kendall Park and Sundays 2:30pm @ Kendall Park, if you would like to go down and try it out. Have a chat to our amazing woman's "football whisperer" Gary.

They have a lot of fun!

A huge thanks to YOUTHTOWN Inc for contributing to the tournament costs.

BALL BOYS & GIRLS Waimak United is seeking applications for ball boys for the senior men's home games, and ball girls for the senior women's home games, over the winter season. You need to be aged between 9-13 years of age and registered to play with Waimak United FC. Ball girls will need to assemble at Kendall Park at 12noon (kick off is 12:30pm) on their rostered days. Ball boys will need to assemble at Kendall Park at 2pm (kick off is 2:30pm) on their rostered days.

MATCH DAY PROGRAM SPONSORS Ideally we are looking for 16 girls and 16 boys. Each home game 8 players will be rostered on for each match. This is a great opportunity to be part of senior match day action - and there are some benefits, such as a shirt, refreshment, getting to know our senior players, and featuring in the match day program. As a added bonus we are offering our ball boys and girls a $25 discount if you want to be part of the semester 2 academy. AND...you never know, you might just get some seniors on your sideline from time to time too. You would be committing to approximately 1 match per month, approximately 4-5 home games in a season. If you are unavailable you would need to replace yourself / swap with someone else from the alternate group. Once the draws are confirmed we would be able to confirm which matches you are rostered on for. You are of course invited to attend every match if you want to!!

You may also be invited to other matches and functions but these will be optional. If you would like to apply to be a Waimak United FC Ball Boy/Girl please complete the online form on the club website in the news section or: https://leagueathletics.com/UserForm.asp? RegID=157075&org=WAIMAKUNITED.ORG.NZ

The Waimak United Club is producing a Match Day program for the Women's Premier and Men's Canterbury Championship league squads for each of their games during the 2017 season. We are very grateful to the businesses who have come on board so far as Match Day Program sponsors. We are still looking for more. The program will include information about the teams, the squad photos, and player profiles and from time to time put a spotlight on club events, player success etc. The aim is to raise the profile of our senior teams so that junior players can identify the pathway, and also get more info about what we do out and about. The program will be available online on the Friday prior to the match and copies will also be printed and available at Kendall Park on match day. The cost is only $100 including GST, which covers around 20 weeks playing weeks, and is sent to over 1000 members, and published on Facebook reaching thousands more. So it is economical advertising with a comprehensive reach! Your business logo will assigned to one of the players and printed under their squad photo. We will also introduce you to our membership on our popular Facebook page. To be included in our match day program as a sponsor please email waimakunited@xtra.co.nz and we will arrange an invoice and set your logo.

PLAYING GEAR AND MERCHANDISE

Kaiapoi Physiotherapy have come on board as our preferred physio provider. They are offering members $5 off their treatment, whether it is ACC or private. John-Paul and his team can assist with strapping needs too. We thank them for supporting Waimak United and our players. The Club has shifted to a new shirt and merchandise supplier, moving to Kitman and NIKE. PLEASE NOTE: ALL CURRENT SHIRTS THAT PLAYERS HAVE PURCHASED IN THE PAST ARE STILL USABLE FOR THEIR APPROPRIATE GRADES.

Website “Exchange” Page On the home page of the club website www.waimakunited.org.nz you will now find an EXCHANGE page—see the left hand menu. This is a place where you can sell, swap, or giveaway preloved football gear. You simply list your items, photo, and contact details and hopefully this connects you with other members needing items. We feel this is especially useful for playing shirts you have grown out of but are still in good condition. You are responsible for all listings, pricing and trades. The club takes no responsibility for listings, we only offer the opportunity on the website.

Kitman will run an online store and do all the merchandise work for us including admin, printing, postage and handling, and return higher margins, and sponsorship to the club. We know in NIKE we are getting a high end quality brand, so there is no drop in the standard of the merchandise. There will be hoodies, jackets, polos, bags etc available. Kitman also offer a couple of SIGMA products sourced especially for us that provide a slightly more cost effective option for hoodies and jackets. Kitman will also source and supply our Fun and Mini Football shirts. Within the Playing Options tab, a link is provided to the Kitman online store (using the code WaiU2016) .

SHORTS, SOCKS, SHINPADS, BOOTS Can be purchased from our local supplier

THE SPORT SHOP 85 Victoria St, Rangiora Come in and see Nigel and the team and they will get your feet sorted! The Sport Shop will have gear for sale at Opening Day too!
