SENIOR MATCH DAY PROGRAM

Saturday 22nd April 2017 Tuesday 25th April 2017

PURE JOY! In last weeks edition we described how football being a low scoring game is part of the joy, especially considering the emotion stirred from scoring goals. This week we showcases a few moments of our own Waimak players and their pure joy captured in the moments after scoring.

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB

MEN’S CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE V Selwyn United FC 22nd April—2:30pm Kick Off—Kendall Park Coaches Comment: Last week our squad depth was tested with several players missing from the previous week’s game. We gave starting debuts to Finn Caddie, Eddie Trewinnard and Ayush Lakhera who all proved they have what it takes at this level. In the end we were disappointed with the 3-2 result against Christchurch United but satisfied with our performance. Highlight of the day was our second goal which was expertly finished by Hayden Sword after brilliant lead up work from our centre backs, Mitch Quigley and Ollie Willis. The low point was having to get changed on the grass because Christchurch United can’t afford opposition changing rooms despite being able to pay players. This week we welcome Lee Padmore and the high flying Selwyn team. Early last season they gave us a couple of sound beatings but we improved to take points off them later in the year. I’m confident that we have continued that improvement but we aware that this will be our biggest test so far this season. These fixtures are always very competitive and entertaining so we’re looking forward to a good game and a big crowd.

Lastly thanks to operations side of the club for producing this program every week and arranging the wonderful ball boys and girls.

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB WOMEN’S PREMIER LEAGUE V

Tasman United

22nd April—12:30pm Kick Off— Kendall Park Coaches Comment: We come into this weekend in high spirits and confidence with our first win against Universities which showed that when we stick to our playing style and not over complicate things we get the just rewards. Universities served us a handy reminder that once again we must concentrate for the full 90 minutes, however, our resilience shone through and were unlucky not to finish the match with a higher score margin. This week we face a strong Tasman United team looking to push as genuine title contenders for the WPL, and a team I expect to push us all the way. They are a well organised group which will be hard to break down, so we need to make every chance count in front of goal. They also pose a strong challenge for our defenders, so this will be a great match to watch and I expect to see an entertaining game of end to end football. ANZAC Day brings the first round of the Reta Fitzpatrick Knock Out Cup, where we host Parklands United. Parklands have undergone a lot of rebuilding over the summer, and look to be getting stronger every match, so we need to ensure we are fully prepared for this match. Congratulations and best of luck to Gabi, Thais, Ella, Blair and Macey on their selection for the Centralised National Talent Centre as they will test themselves against the best players of their respective age groups from around the country.
