WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL v Cashmere Technical 5th August—12:30pm—Kendall Park Coaches comment: After 2 previously close and entertaining matches against Cashmere Technical, we come into this game knowing a strong performance and decisive, clinical application in the top third can help us gain our first points over last years league winners. This young squad have proven time and time again this season that we aren’t a team to write off, having forced the ‘big guns’ to be at peak performance to get a result against us. A cohesive, complete team performance will be required this weekend to overcome a Cashmere Technical team, that will be fighting to keep their season alive to stay within touching distance of an very impressive Coastal Spirit. We would like to thank all our ball girls for the season, who have shown up to all our home games to support the girls. This is a very important connection that we have within our club, with our future WPL players coming down to watch and support their future team mates in action. The talent coming through the club marks for a very exciting Waimak future in the women’s space. Shane Verma—WPL Coach “Play for the name on the front of the shirt, and they’ll remember the name on the back” – Tony Adams

WAIMAK UNITED FOOTBALL CLUB MEN’S CANTERBURY CHAMPIONSHIP LEAGUE V

Christchurch United AFC Saturday 5th August—2:30pm Kick Off—Kendall Park

Coaches comment: Last weekend we played Parklands at Parklands, a game we came into confident of getting 3 points keeping us on track for our goal to finish the competition in second place. We started off very well and at half time were in the changing rooms with a convincing and comfortable 2 -0 lead with goals from Hayden Sword and Nikita Potapov. The second half unfortunately didn’t work out the same as we were frustrated by a Parklands team that never gave up and were more organised in defence. The Waimak team seemed to go in to their shells and instead of pushing for the goal to put the game to rest ended up conceding with 15 minutes to go, this changed the whole dynamic of the game putting us under pressure, and a Parklands team with their tails up and looking for an equaliser. After conceding late equalisers in 3 of the last 4 games I was hoping our luck had finally changed but where would the fun be without another twist and in the somewhat controversial 7 minutes of added time we again conceded with the last kick of the game. Enough said, we have moved on and now looking ahead to playing CHCH United at Kendall park on Saturday, hope to see a good crowd there to support the team.
