Surf n science camp Parent’s Frequently Asked Questions: How much does the camp cost? This camp is being funded through a grant, therefore participants are able to attend the camp at no cost. Campers may wish to bring money for incidentals, however, we discourage campers from bring large amounts of cash. All food, lodging, educational and surfing supplies will be provided by the camp. Transportation to and from the camp is the responsibility of the parents. Where will the girls being staying and are they being supervised at night? The girls will be staying at the Si Como No Inn, in Flagler Beach. We have arranged to have the entire facility to ourselves so there will be no ‘non‐camp’ guests. All staff are adults and female staff will be on duty at all times. Staff are trained in CPR. Who are the Florida Endowment Foundation and Girls Get IT? The Florida Endowment Foundation for Florida’s Graduates, Inc is a 501(c) 3 organized under Florida law. Girls Get IT is one of the programs offered by the Foundation for the purpose of introducing young women to the world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and engaging them in career exploration and personal growth opportunities. We are funded by private donations, grants, and state and federal funds and have been in existence since 1998. Who is eligible to attend Surf ‘n Science Camp? Girls between the ages of 14 ‐ 18 who are members of Girls Get IT. To receive an application, contact us at email@example.com or check with your teacher or career coach. What will my daughter be doing while at camp? The goal of the camp is to introduce girls to the world of science, technology, engineering and math. Some of the top local scientists in the fields of biology, biochemistry, ecology and astronomy will be providing 1/2 day educational sessions with hands‐on activities. Girls will learn the science behind surfing, some of the industries that support surfing, and how to pursue the types of careers in this field. AND, Girls will be learning to surf, all levels of experience are welcome.
