relate the notion of "En" to the story. So I came up with the idea of using five yen coin as a motive. Then the image of the first scene came up to my mind that the girl sits at the bench of the station very early in the morning alone, and so after that, I just let my imagination flows naturally, I let five yen coin travels from one place to another. For this, I set two males for one protagonist, one with the real En and other without. And then I needed a role of pilot who guides her to the real male with En, which Ippei Tanaka played as a sommelier. So this film has two plots: One is to show the town of Kamakura visually, and the other one is to guide you through En not traveling. Your film seems simple, yet it encompasses an entire world, dissecting the

identity of the protagonist with the sure hand of a surgeon. What was the most challenging thing about making this film? Well, because I discuss about the script with my assistants, Miho and Mika throughly, and also with Yuri, who played the roll of the protagonist, all I remember was that the shooting was very fun, organized, not much of a confusion or “Mayoi” in my heart (=ambivalence in Japanese), everything was quite smooth. Of course we were so careful choosing who is going to play the role of protagonist. We wanted an actress who has the sense of translucency. Also, how she looks were so very important. She has to express the image of the town very well, not too outdated, yet not too up-to-date. Yuri was the ideal casting for the
