A LOOK BACK: 2010-11 UTAH STATE FALLS TO TEXAS A&M AT NCAA TOURNAMENT Three players in double-digits was not enough for 12th-seeded Utah State as the Aggies were topped by the Wildcats of Kansas State, 73-68, in the second round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament at the McKale Center at Tuscon, Ariz. USU, ranked No. 17 in this week’s ESPN/USA Today Coaches’ poll and No. 19 in the Associated Press poll ends its record season with a 30-4 mark, as the 30 wins ties the 2008-09 team for most in school history and its 30-4 mark is the best-ever in the program’s history. No. 24/21 K-State improves to 23-10 overall and advances to play third-seeded and No. 16/16 Wisconsin in the third round on Saturday. In his final game in an Aggie uniform, senior forward Tai Wesley netted a team-high 18 points, while junior guard Brockeith Pane added 17 points and senior guard Pooh Williams tied a career-high with four three-pointers on the way to 16 points. Wesley and senior guard Tyler Newbold shared not only team-best rebounding honors but game-best as well snaring six boards each. The Aggies pulled within 33-28 less than three minutes into the second half as Wesley hit a jumper and a layup sandwiched around a Pane layup. The Wildcats responded and opened a 47-34 lead at the 10:14 mark on a Kelly jumper. USU countered to close to 56-50 on a driving Williams dunk with 4:20 to play, but that would be the closest the Aggies would get until the waning seconds. Utah State’s senior class of Wesley, Green, Newbold, Williams, and forwards Nate Bendall and Matt Formisano leave USU as their winningest players in school history with a four-year record of 108-28. That group led the Aggies to fourstraight regular-season Western Athletic Conference championships and two WAC Tournament titles in the last three years. UTAH STATE CLAIMS 2011 WAC BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT TITLE Tai Wesley and Brockeith Pane each scored 19 points and Wesley also pulled down nine rebounds as the Aggies won the WAC Tournament with a 77-69 win over Boise State in the championship contest of the 2011 WAC Basketball Tournament championship game. La’Shard Anderson paced Boise State with 18 points. 2011 WAC Basketball All-Tournament Team La’Shard Anderson, Boise State Nate Bendall, Utah State Adrian Oliver, San Jose State Tai Wesley, Utah State Brockeith Pane, Utah State - MVP UTAH STATE WINS FOURTH-STRAIGHT WAC REGULAR SEASON TITLE Utah State’s men’s basketball team won its third-straight outright Western Athletic Conference regular season championship and fourth-straight league title overall in 2010-11. With its regular season WAC Championship, Utah State extended its current school record run of consecutive postseason appearances to 12 straight as the Aggies have played in the NCAA Tournament seven times and the NIT four times in the past 11 years. Along with securing its 12-straight postseason appearance, Utah State is also one of just two teams in the nation to win at least 23 games in each of the last 12 seasons along with Kansas.

A LOOK BACK: 2010-11, CONTINUED year with a school-record tying 30 wins and and played in its third-straight NCAA Tournament. Its 30-4 end of season record this year is the best in school history. As a collegiate head coach, Morrill has been named conference coach of the year six times, winning the award in 1991 while at Montana, in 2000 and 2002 when Utah State was a member of the Big West Conference, and 2009, 2010 and 2011 as a member of the WAC. During Morrill’s tenure, Utah State has won at least a share of seven regular season league titles to go along with six tournament championships. Utah State also owns the nation’s fourth-best winning percentage during the last 12 years (.774), and has posted 12 straight 23-win seasons and advanced to 12 straight postseasons (8-NCAA, 4-NIT), both of which are school records. Morrill, who completed his 13th year at Utah State and 25th season as a collegiate head coach, has a 324-103 (.759) record with the Aggies and a 542-241 (.692) overall mark. Among active Division I coaches, Morrill ranks 18th in the nation in wins and 26th in winning percentage. He is also one of just 18 active coaches with 500 career victories and one of just 10 active coaches to post 20 or more wins at least 16 times. MICHAEL WHITE NAMED LOUISIANA TECH MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH Louisiana Tech officials landed one of the rising young stars in the college basketball business when the University hired Ole Miss Rebel assistant coach Michael White. White was introduced during a formal press conference held in the Jarrell Room of the Charles Wyly Athletic Center in March. After carefully outlining the qualifications they were searching for in the replacement for former Tech head coach Kerry Rupp, the search committee chaired by Tech Athletics Director Bruce Van De Velde recommended White who was approved by the Tech Athletics Council. He is the 17th head coach in Bulldog basetball history. RODNEY TERRY NAMED FRESNO STATE MEN’S BASKETBALL COACH A coach who played an integral part in one of the nation’s most successful college basketball programs for nearly a decade was hired in April to lead the Bulldog men’s basketball program. Fresno State Director of Athletics Thomas Boeh announced the hiring of former Texas assistant coach Rodney Terry as head men’s basketball coach. Terry will be the 18th head coach in Bulldog history, replacing Steve Cleveland who was reassigned within the athletics department last month. Known as an outstanding recruiting and bench coach while at Texas, Terry’s resume includes coaching two national players of the year and 11 appearances in the NCAA tournament. UTAH STATE HOLDS NATION’S THIRD-LONGEST HOME WIN STREAK Utah State has won 31 straight home games, which is the third-longest active winning streak in the nation behind Duke (36) and Kentucky (34). The Aggies last home loss came against Saint Mary’s (68-63) on Dec. 5, 2009 as the Gaels snapped USU’s school-record 37-game home winning streak. l Louisiana Tech returns only six letter winners from last year’s team while it welcomes a total of seven newcomers (four high school, two transfers, one redshirt). l Sophomore guard Kenyon McNeaill is the only returner this year who started more than half of the Bulldogs 32 games last year.

l Tech will look to bounce back after winning only two Western Athletic Conference games last year, the fewest by the program since it joined the league in 2001-02.

FAST FACT

Michael White was named Louisiana Tech’s head coach on March 30, 2011, replacing the departed Kerry Rupp on the Bulldog sideline. White comes to Ruston after spending the past seven seasons as an assistant coach at his alma mater Ole Miss, developing a reputation as one of the top assistants in the country.

l Returners Romario Souza (15), Brandon Gibson (12), Cordarius Johnson (11), Lonnie Smith (9) and JL Lewis (5) all started at least one game last year.

l Tech welcomes a pair of Ole Miss transfers who follow former Rebel coach and new Bulldog head coach Mike White to Ruston in guard Trevor Gaskins and forward Isaiah Massey.

l The Bulldogs roster will include only two players from the state of Louisiana in Cordarius Johnson and JL Lewis.
