vy.dang@wsu.edu (360) 787-5804

ABOUT I am a junior student in Interior Design. During learning time, my ideas usually base on daily life, where I am able to find a great deal of inspiration for my design. From trees, flowers, beautiful sights, animals, human activities, and movements of nature, everything is capable of being a source of your design idea. According to that point, all of my projects in the portfolio are basically based on my interest in the beauty of nature. Furthermore, I have a strong interest in photography and watercoloring, which show various sides of my personality, strengths, knowledge and give more influences to the viewers about my perspective.

A PRIVATE PLACE This is a group project focusing on the exploration of form and texture through the process of model making. The main idea is using the proportion of solid and void on the wall, with additional color panel to create a place with colorful lighting being change due to the movement of the sun. The form also provide an attractive outlook when the light is used inner the place

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT AND MODEL MAKING

My contributed idea was to use the leaf texture and cover with colorful panel. Then we started exploring and finalizing the design through several alternatives, even we tried some different texture from initial concept to find out if it worked better or not. Also I revised the project with Revit and other design communications to re-execute the real spaces and form of the project

CREATE A FACADE WITH A BASIC FORM OF A LEAF, VENATION PATTERN AND APPLY THE THEORY OF TRANSFIGURATION OF LIGHT.

DEVELOP THE FORM BY COMBINING THE LEAF VEINS AND THE IMAGE OF A TREE, REFLECTING THE COLOR GRADIENT.

TRY DIFFERENT TECHNIQUES TO STYLIZE A LEAF TO A MODERN FORM WITH STRAIGHT AND ASYMMETRICAL LINES, COLORFUL GEOMETRIC SHAPES.

CREATE THE LEAF WITH GEOMETRIC FORMS, BILATERAL SYMMETRY, AND THE SUNSET GRADIENT.

The main idea of this project is going to build a community space where Pullman people and WSU students are able to meet and share their stories. Furthermore, the project focuses on developing local art with the support of Pullman artists, WSU and all visitors. The project will focus on the point of flexibility, which will provide new air to visitors whenever they come. With the idea of a zerogravity environment, Light House will combine mysterious, suspended spaces with local artworks to create an open Museum of Art for Pullman city and WSU.

INSPIRATION AND IDEAS

APPLY SHAPE OF THE BRIDGE TO STANDING AREA The main focus of this project is the connection between generations in the company. With over 40 year-experience, Indoor Garden Design has strong human resources from different generations. Owing to that view, creating a working place with the combination of nostalgic atmosphere and modern components will bring individuals closer together. Based on the image of the traditional bridges in London, the project provides the image of a park located next to a bridge, which reflect various bridge activities that people has always performed, such as picnicking, sun-bathing, reading, or just enjoying fresh air and green grass.

BEAR SOCIETY Bear Society is a WSU Bear Center where people are able to come and enjoy the bears’ world. At Bear Society, residents will have opportunities to join bears’ life since our idea is going to bring various experiences and understanding about the lifestyle of grizzly bears. Besides getting knowledge about the bears, we also want to build a great relationship between visitors and bears, Pullman residents and WSU researchers. Introducing grizzly bears, WSU bear facility, conducting workshops, interacting with bears, researchers and research processes will be the main keys of Bear Society Center.

IDEAS

LACK OF CONNECTION BETWEEN VISITORS AND BEARS

A green space is able to engage will be a solution for this problem. Also, in WSU Bear Center, visitors can act like bears with visitor engage area which will provide a new experience to visitors. Another idea is going to create an open space of research area where people are able to see many processes of WSU researchers. Due to that point, visitors can understand and might be interested in the research projects. Furthermore, using the image of Bear's den to create an indoor viewing area, visitor are able to feel like they are standing a bear’s house.

This is project addressing commercial store design from branding to the interior design. The main point of the project is to analyse the image of international brand Paris Baguette, their existing shop design in the area (Ho Chi Minh City), and develop a new design concept. From that view, Open Treasure is developed from the idea of an open treasure chest that will bring the suspended, magical feeling to the construction. Due to the idea, creating a gap between two floor level will bring the sense of floating form, illustrate the idea of an open box. Furthermore, roof of the ground floor is glass to make the space look higher and larger.

INSIDE OUT

NAME: InsideOut Personal Project CLIENT: IIDA LOCATION: Trade Fair in Cologne, Germany FUNCTION: Trade Show Booth IIDA Student Booth Design Competition at Orgatec YEAR: 2018 SKILLS: Revit, Photoshop, Illustrator

Inside Out is a project for the IIDA Student Booth Design Competition at Orgatec 2018, Trade Fair in Cologne, Germany. The main point of this project is to create a promoting space that can clearly show the mission of IIDA and significantly impress the visitors of Orgatec Trade Fair. Based on the view of connecting designers from all over the world and the image of ocean waves, the project based on the idea of using cubes with multiple colors to build up a wavy dome. The raise and the connection between colorful cubes represent the relationship between memberships and designers of IIDA. Furthermore, due to the combination of curvy shapes and cubes, Inside Out creates a comfortable gathering space for visitors to come and gain more information about IIDA, the working processes, benefits and their future goal.

30

BIRD’S EYE VIEW

31

The project provides two main areas with various views including an inside part and an outside space that base on two different sides of the wavy dome. These two areas are created by the accumulation of the cubes from the ground up to the ceiling following the curvy form, which shows the idea of connecting the cubes. In order to create that form, firstly the metal structure needs to be shaped in wavy form. Secondly, the cubes, which are made from transparent plastic, will be attached on the durable metal frame. In this point, the metal skeleton plays a role of a global network, the cubes represent the designers, the students, and the members of the Association that they integrate into this Design society.

IDEAS

The idea is the combination between the movement of surf and cubes. The image of surf provides the feeling of covering, gathering, which is similar to the main point of IIDA, creating a global community where designers and students are able to get closer together. Furthermore, I choose the cubes to represent individuals in the Association since IIDA shows through the logo that their style is basic, simple with straight lines and basic forms.

Crystal cube is a custom part of the dome which is also able to be used as a storage. The reason of choosing transparent materials is to let the light go through, and to make a connection between two areas just like building a strong relationship between the Association in various regions in the world. From that reason, people who stay in inside area are still able to see outside sights. Also, visitors can see through the inside part even they are walking in the outside space. Furthermore, with transparent system, residents are able to recognize the IIDA from many views.
