INTRODUCTION

dOOR TO dOOR seRVice we are proud to have pioneered the concept of door to door service. This couldn’t be easier. A taxi will call to pick you up from your front door and deliver you to our luxury coach. Your luggage is then transferred to the coach by the driver. On arrival at your destination whilst you settle into your accommodation your suitcase is delivered to your door. On your return, a taxi will meet the coach and transfer you and your luggage back home.

SINGLES

No Single Supplement and Many Single Rooms! We at Woods always have our single travellers in mind and this year we have managed to secure another range of holidays with a large number of single rooms with no single supplement. Travel on one of these tours and you will enjoy the same quality accommodation, interesting excursions, door to door service, and the experience and knowledge of our drivers that you would on any of our tours. In addition, we arrange a welcome drink on arrival at your main hotel so that you have a chance to get to know the other travellers. Couples are also welcome. As well as these tours, we have many others with a lower number of single rooms, but which still carry no supplement. Don’t forget that our Mystery Tours never have a single supplement. Look out for the symbol.

Valkenburg is a delightful little hill town built around a romantic ruined castle, and the Christmas market takes place in beautifully lit old caves which run underneath the town. We also visit two of Germany's festive markets in Aachen and Cologne, where the squares and streets are transformed into a paradise of lights and colours, seductive smells and festive sounds.

Rüdesheim is a typical picturesque Rhine town with crooked narrow streets and half-timbered houses, sloping gently down to the River Rhine. Our itinerary includes a number of Germany’s most beautiful and popular Christmas Markets full of charming gifts and tempting delights.

Day 1: Morning collection from your home to join our coach for the drive to Folkestone where we join the Eurotunnel to Calais. We continue through Belgium and into Holland, arriving in Valkenburg by early evening.

Day 1: Early morning departure from home for travel to Folkestone and the mid-morning Eurotunnel transfer to Calais. On arrival, we continue our journey to our hotel in Rüdesheim.

Day 2: Today we head for Aachen's brightly lit Christmas market, set around the cathedral and town hall. This lovingly decorated “Christmas Village” has everything your heart could desire. One local speciality you really must try is the Aachen Printen, a kind of gingerbread.

Day 3: A free day in Valkenburg with its unusual alternative to the traditional Christmas market, featuring two separate markets in underground caves. The larger of the caves is situated directly under the town centre and is the spot to buy handcrafted souvenirs and decorations. The smaller and more intimate Velvet Cave is located under the castle ruins and is decorated with impressive murals and sculptures. (A small entrance charge to the caves of approx. €5 is payable locally.)

Day 3: After a leisurely breakfast we make the short journey to Wiesbaden where the picturesque Schlossplatz is the spectacular setting for its Sternschnuppenmarkt (Shooting Star Market), decorated in gold and blue to reflect the town’s coat of arms. Later we continue to Mainz with its historic market square with free time to explore before returning to our hotel.

Day 4: Enjoy a full day in Cologne, where Christmas magic strikes a very festive note featuring many Christmas Markets located around the city. Plenty of entertainment, a variety of concerts, nativity scene displays and a huge ice rink, all enhance the wonderful Christmas atmosphere. Day 5: We depart Valkenburg and return to Calais for a late afternoon Eurotunnel to Folkestone, returning to the local area by mid evening where our door to door service will be waiting to return you to your home.

The Big Band and singers will perform hits from the 50s to the 80s. Day 3: Our drive today takes us to Hebden Bridge in the Calder Valley, where there is time to relax in one of the many tearooms. We then head over Oxenhope Moor to Haworth, with its famous cobbled main street, and home to the Brontë Parsonage Museum. There is time to visit the museum and get some lunch before we join the famous Worth Valley Railway, with tea and biscuits served on the train. We have a return journey to Keighley passing Oakworth, famous for featuring in the 1970’s Railway Children. At Haworth we rejoin our coach and return to our hotel for our evening meal and last night of entertainment.
