These programs are divided into two categories: full-term and short-term, and each category has four levels: Junior - Art Playground; Intermediate - Art Lab; Senior - Art Workshop; Adult - Art Club.

Upon the last few months before the deadline, I went to VSA everyday right after-school and stayed until the studio closed. With Mr.Liu and Sophie’s constant support, I felt confident with the projects I produced. Since I was unsatisfied with a few pieces in my final portfolio, Mr.Liu inspired me greatly to make changes or restart the project.

Just two days before my interview with The University of the Arts London, Mr. Liu worked extra hours with me to complete a final piece. Therefore, I could confidently express myself and the ideas behind my pieces during the interview.

4 8 When the actual audition happened, I was way more prepared than the others in the room and drew with confidence and felt proud of my finished piece. This art class had improved my skills from 50 to 100. Even though the process of drawing the same thing over again sometimes bored or stressed me, I finally understood the reason we did it and that is to be more consistent. But with all my friends and teachers supporting me, I managed through, I will never regret going to VSA. - Nathalie Dai Thank you for helping me get accepted into Lord Byng. Without you, I would not have succeeded. It would’ve been so much more difficult for me to enter the Byng Arts Mini Program without you teaching and helping me. Thank you so much for everything you have done for me. Thank you for enlightenment and education of my painting. Thank you for teaching me how to paint still life with watercolor and oil pastels.

You taught me new ideas and taught me more drawing skills. Thank you teachers of VSA, especially Mr. Liu for his careful guidance and patient teaching, and Sophie, Karen, and Jessica for assisting me with my portfolio pieces and still life paintings. Thank you so much for helping me with all of these things. I couldn’t possibly have done anything this well without your help.

- Maia Xu Applying for Byng Arts is big deal for me, it is not easy, and there was much planning in advance, preparing works, and practicing interviews......this was a lot of procedures. But applying for Byng Arts is also easy, because there is Mr. Liu, and all the other teachers to help me. I remember that the day I received the offer, it was still Mr. Liu who called me early in the morning to tell me the great news. It felt he was more motherlike than my mother!

VSA has witnessed my growth, and I have also witnessed the development from a small room to a large two-story studio like today. In VSA, I am very happy to be able to draw and learn from other peers, and also trying to set an example for the younger students. I will be cheerful! .

Each graduating student - Alice Y., Becky N., and Coco J. - received a graduation package, which included a VSA graduate certificate, a custom graduation greeting card, an attendance summary at VSA and a $200 VSA Scholarship funded by the VSA Youth Art Fund. Last but not least, a portfolio booklet designed and printed by head teacher Vals Liu that documents each studentâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s progress in applying for their dream art universities. We were pleased to have Mr. IIan Daniel Gutin, assistant director of the School of Art Institute of Chicago, as the guest speaker for VSAâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s Fall 2019 annual Portfolio Seminar. Throughout the portfolio seminar, students and parents obtained a better understanding of programs, faculties and application process. Further, students had the opportunity to receive individual portfolio reviews, in which they received valuable feedback.

It is through the common commitment to build a stronger and better art community for our young artists that cultivates their passion in fine art and design.

In 2017, VSA Art+Design Studio held the first Student Christmas Art Show, raising a total of CAD $3,120 for the BC Children’s Hospital. This art show launched the VSA Youth Art Fund and established the VSA “Kids for Kids” Project. In 2019, we held the second VSA Student Christmas Art Show, in support of the BC Children’s Hospital Foundation. The VSA Youth Art Fund leads the younger generation to support their communities with their loving contributions.

On December 15th, 2019, the second VSA Student Christmas Art Show was successfully exhibited at the UBC Golf Club. The exhibition displayed over 200 artworks, including 160 original pieces and 52 donations specifically drawn for the live auction. The exhibition ran from 11 am to 3 pm and ultimately raised $6,616 on the spot in just 4 hours. There were over 150 guests, including VSA alumni and VSA teachers and students. Together, we witnessed what a deep commitment to art, one’s community and love can accomplish.
