Video games are a massive part of our culture and society today. It is among the most popular pass times people engage in. However, what the roots of this monumental influence? To find out, we are gonna have to wind the clock back to the late 50s.

The first video game ever conceived was created in October 1958, by an American physicist named William Higinbotham. The game was called "Pong" and was a great hit. The players turned a knob to adjust the platform to deflect the oncoming ball, much like the game of tennis. This was then followed by the development of the first console, the Magnavox Odyssey. Games similar to pong were playable on the Magnavox Odyssey.

However, its size made it difficult for it to run more powerful games. Video game manufacturers had to discover a way to deliver their products to the masses and make them accessible to everyone.

They solved this predicament by creating Arcades.

Arcades Arcade Centres are places in which you could play videogames in. Players pay a small amount to start playing. This made it really popular with young people who would spend countless hours, competing to get the highest score.

The Rise of Consoles Because of innovations in the tech industry, machines are now able to process more and more things.

Due to a lack of processing power, video games from the 1970s and 1980s used simple graphics to fool players into believing they were playing in three dimensions. There were lines of various colors in the game, but there was no texture to the graphics.
