Cambodia Geography

»Cambodia has a land area of 180,035 square kilometers in the southwestern part of the Indochina peninsula, about 20% of which is used for agricultural purposes. This country is bordered with Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam.

»The good, the bad, and the ugly is a simple way to sum Cambodia’s history. From the glorious days of ancient Angkor Era which was unrivalled by neighboring countries, built hundreds of temples to the devastating lost of the Khmer Rouge Era in the 20th century. Khmer Rouge is still a fresh wound for many Cambodians as their loved ones were taken during the time. Cambodia is still recovering from it.

History

Culture Cambodian culture and tradition have had a rich varied history dating back many centuries. Over the years, the people of Cambodia developed a set of unique tradition from syncretism of indigenous Buddhism and Hinduism. Cambodians have been raised to respect their culture and are very traditional in their way of life.

Punleu Project EDUCATION FOR SCHOOL “Punleu” means light which represents the shining light at the end of the tunnel to brighten Cambodia’s next generation’s future. Punleu Project will take place in schools in suburban/rural area with suppar condition. We aim to provide better access to the english language to children with difficult conditions and can not afford a proper advance education. Exchange Participants will be the main teachers in class to enhance English speaking and comminication skill.

SDG ALIGNMENT SDG #4: Qaulity Education, ÂťEnsure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all. ÂťMore importantly, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship.

OUR Why

» The Khmer Rouge regime obliterated the education system in Cambodia as schools were destroyed and intellectuals killed. Cambodia was forced to build up from scratch, starting with creating a new education system. » Today has seen a steady improvement with over 10,000 schools built, but there is still much to be done. Disparities, such as educational relevance and employment and access to proper education, stll exists. » 55% of rural kids are living underprivileged as being restrained from the access to quality education so that’s why our project needs people from all around the world who are passionate in making a positive impact in the world in general and in Cambodia in particular.

OUR How

» We aim to tackle the reoccuring issue by creating “Orkun Project” which let Exchange Paricipants take part in teaching English language to children who are unable to afford proper advance language education. » Our target is to set an enjoyable, educational, friendly, multi-cultural and diverse environment for children to learn and develop their hard and soft skill along the way as well as brighten their creativity with such diversity. » The class environment is not only a traditional and basic class but it’s more a family-like environment where students have a deep respect and gratitude toward their teachers.
