The Volunteer  Connec7on  Project:  Egypt    began  as  a  one-‐person  Commitment  to   Ac7on  at  the  Clinton  Global  Ini7a7ve  University  (CGI  U)  Conference  in  April  2012  and   has  grown  into  a  six-‐person  team  of  students  who  are  passionate  about  VCP’s   mission.  The  CGI  U  program  is  a  growing  community  of  young  leaders  around  the   world  who  commit  to  take  concrete  steps  toward  solving  global  challenges.  CGIU  has   been  crucial  to  the  development  of  VCP  since  it  equipped  its  founder  with  cri7cal   skills  necessary  to  start  taking  ac7on  and  managing  a  nonprofit  project.  It   also  connected  our  founder/president  to  like-‐minded  students  and  professionals,   including  a  project  mentor.  Our  team  has  also  been  been  accepted  to  par7cipate  in   CGIU  2013  with  a  renewed  commitment  to  con7nue  and  expand  VCP's  opera7ons.

There is  an  increasing  trend  of  university  students  who  have  the  interest,  as  well  as   crea7vity  and  enthusiasm,  to  help  break  cultural  barriers  and  tackle  global   development  challenges.  However,  students  interested  in  volunteering  in  the  Middle   East  are  oXen  faced  with  limited  informa7on  on  the  internet,  since  there  are  few   online  pos7ngs  for  volunteer  opportuni7es.  The  online  pos7ngs  that  do  exist  are   usually  wriYen  in  Arabic.  Through  an  English-‐language  website,  VCP  hopes  to  connect   organiza7ons  seeking  to  make  a  posi7ve  change  in  Egypt  with  students  who  are   mo7vated  to  make  that  a  reality.

VCP provides  a  pla\orm,  through  its  website,  that  connects  university  student   volunteers  enrolled  in  American  and  Canadian  universi7es  with  grassroots  NGOs   opera7ng  in  Cairo,  Egypt.  The  volunteer  opportuni7es  will:   1.  strengthen  our  partner  NGOs’  opera7ons  and  help  them  reach  their  objec7ves,   and     2.  give  students  the  opportunity  to  use  their  crea7vity,  enthusiasm,  and  knowledge   they  have  gained  in  the  classroom  in  a  real-‐world  se^ng,  as  well  as  engage  in  a  new   and  exci7ng  cultural  experience.     Ul7mately,  VCP  aims  to  provide  a  sustainable  pla\orm  to  connect  the  NGO  sector  in   Egypt  with  skilled  university  student  volunteers  to  complete  in  short-‐term  projects.   By  increasing  cross-‐cultural  exchange  of  informa7on  and  ideas,  VCP  will  help  break   cultural  barriers  and  advance  global  development.

VCP’s model  stems  from  the  principles  of  nonprofit  consul7ng.  This  means  that  our   main  objec7ve  is  to  enable  small  grassroots  NGOs  to  achieve  their  full  poten7al  by   filling  in  gaps  that  prevent  them  from  doing  so.  VCP’s  role  is  to  connect  these  NGOs   to  students  with  the  skills  and  experience  that  NGOs  need  to  expand  their  capacity   and  deepen  their  impact.  For  summer  2013,  our  NGO  partners  are  all  located  in   Cairo,  Egypt.
