The Highland Perthshire Autumn Festival is a marketing tool of the Highland Perthshire Community Interest Company.

Transitions at The Enchanted Forest 7 to 29 October Perthshire Big Tree Country’s award winning The Enchanted Forest sound and light show is a feast for your senses. The Enchanted Forest is located at Explorers Garden, a seven acre landscaped woodland dedictated to the Scottish Plant Hunters. The event offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience the outdoors, at night and with spectacular imagery.

Best Dressed Business Competition

Pitlochry’s shops and restaurants will be dressing to impress and win your vote in the Best Dressed Business Competition. Pick up a voting slip at any participating shop or restaurant. When you’ve filled it in, drop the voting slip into the box at Fishers Hotel (Atholl Rd) or Fern Cottage Restaurant (Ferry Rd) for a chance to win a great prize! Winners will be announced on the website.

Autumn Watch at Highland Safaris October & November Witness Britain’s largest native land mammal and the amazing autumn colours at their most dramatic. Watching the Red Deer Rut has to be one of the most dramatic outdoor experiences in Scotland at this time of year.

Tractor Spooktacular 13 & 27 Oct 2011

A chilling vintage tractor and trailer ride through the grounds of Blair Castle followed by a visit to the night-time castle and a scary story in the ballroom. Take a spooky tractor ride and listen for the eerie wildlife noises of the night. Then step inside the dimly-lit night-time castle for stories that will make your hair stand on end! Fantastic Halloween fun for all the family but specifically aimed at children aged 6 to 12 years.

Blair Castle Attics Tour Throughout Aug, Sept and Oct 2011 Discover the secrets of Blair Castle’s attics. Hidden from view in the maze of attic rooms and corridors are many strange, wonderful and interesting artefacts. Uncover the strange and fascinating collection of objects in Baron Maule’s room, marvel at the eclectic collections of paintings, walking sticks, weaponry and period costume. The tour culminates in a climb to the castle rooftops for breathtaking panoramic views of the castle grounds.

Crann Apple and Cider Festival 13 October Bring in your apples to press and a container to collect the juice; taste Scottish cider and learn about Scottish apples.

RAC Rally of Scotland 15, 16 & 17 October The RACMSA Rally of Scotland 2011 boasts a weekend of fast cars and iconic Scottish scenery with one of the most exciting stages of the Rally taking place in Craigvinean Forest in Highland Perthshire.

Fire and Food Festival 16 October Strike a spark and discover the many methods of firemaking without matches, the best tinder, and wild cooking with fungi. Bring mushrooms for identification to learn what is safe and what is not.

Whisky Galore - A Musical! 21 Oct - 12 Nov

With a score that conjures up both the 1940s and the unmistakable sounds of the Western Isles, this romantic, funny and hugely entertaining musical is performed by a large and highly talented cast of actor-musicians – guaranteed to be an Autumn Festival highlight! “Full of gusto and versatility, the ensemble deliver it with tremendous charm” Mark Fisher, The Guardian

Tay Descent 22 October The Tay Descent is a canoeing and kayaking event for both touring and racing paddlers.

Perthshire Amber Festival 28 October - 6 November The Perthshire Amber Festival is “a jewel of a festival where contemporary song meets folk, roots and tradition” (Courier and Advertiser). It began as a weekend of music and has grown to become a 10-day event that brings together musicians from across the world including internationally acclaimed singer-songwriter and composer Dougie MacLean.

Street Jammin’ 29 October Learn some really cool moves and dance steps at our Street Jam workshop. Suitable for all the family, wear comfortable clothes, sensible shoes and bring a bottle of water to stay hydrated! The workshop is at the Baptist Church on Atholl Rd. It runs from 3pm to 4pm and culminates in a public display at 4.30pm. There will also be a 30 minute show at the local community ceilidh at the Pitlochry Town Hall, West Moulin Road at 8pm. Workshop Price: £3.50.

Fabulous Fireworks 29 October at 7.00pm Highland Perthshire Community Interest Company’s stunning firework display right at the heart of Pitlochry, marks the end to this year’s Enchanted Forest and a start to the Hallowe’en weekend.

Halloween Fancy Dress Street Parade 29 October It’s Hallowe’en and Pitlochry is swarming with witches, warlocks, devils and demons. We need you to join the fancy dress parade at 6.15pm from the Baptist Church Car Park, culminating in our Kids Fancy Dress Competition at Fishers Hotel at 6.30pm. Two winners (Boys and Girls) will be selected from three age categories: Under 5s, 5-8 Yrs, 9-11 Yrs.

Glenfiddich Fiddle Championship 30 October The world’s finest fiddlers gather at Blair Castle for the Glenfiddich Fiddling Championship.

Spooks and Sacrifice Annual Celtic Samhain Festival 31 October Come dressed in costume and help us celebrate this ancient Celtic Halloween festival. Bring a lantern; join our torch lit procession through loch-side woods. Watch our wicker ram burn in ceremonial sacrifice and enjoy storytelling, apple-ducking, hot soup and fire shows.
