PRESS RELEASE A BRIGHT 2013 FOR ST. LUCIA BEACH VOLLEYBALL As if two third places finishes in the 2012 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour was not enough, Joseph Clercent and Julian Biscette finished 2012 ranked number five in the NORCECA Beach Tour. NORCECA boasts world volleyball powerhouses, such as Cuba, USA, Canada and Dominican Republic. This top-six finish has translated into a spot in the World Beach Volleyball Championships!! Yes! that’s’ right!!, St. Lucia has been awarded one of the six spots allotted to the North and Central America and the Caribbean Volleyball Confederation, (NORCECA) for the Under 23 and Under 21 Men’s World Beach Volleyball Championships, to be held in Myslowice,Poland and Umag, Croatia, respectively. Clearly the St. Lucia Volleyball Association’s extensive Beach Volleyball Program and its profound commitment to youth development in all forms’ of the sport are producing outstanding results and creating opportunities for the players. The NORCECA World Championship spots have been assigned based on end of year NORCECA Beach Tour rankings as follows: (Men) USA, Canada, Guatemala, Dominican Republic, St. Lucia and Puerto Rico; (Women) USA, Canada, Mexico, CRC, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic. St. Lucia’s participation in the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour has been supported by the Saint Lucia Olympic Committee, NORCECA itself and ECFH. The good news does not end here as St. Lucia still has a chance to place a team in the Under 19 World Beach Volleyball Championships to be held in Lamaca, Cyprus July 11-14, 2013, by qualifying among the top six in a special qualification tournament to be held in Costa Rica 2-8, April, 2013. Sixteen teams from NORCECA are expected to compete in this qualifier. St. Lucia is gearing up to field teams in both categories and the recently held Independence Beach Championship provided a fantastic opportunity for the Association to scout and select players for this tournament. The Association is intent to keeping the Ball Flying and Going Beyond its Limits in 2013.
